It's a Buddhist temple, not a Shinto shrine (temple for Buddhist, shrine for Shinto). No wonder there is a Japanese temple there, according to WIki: "The Japanese in Hawaii (simply Japanese or “Local Japanese”, rarely Kepanī) are the second largest ethnic group in Hawaii."
