As a Guernseyman who's been living in England for 45 years, I enjoyed this video. I've seen a lot of changes in my visits there over the years. For instance, the first thing I always did of old when I visited was to have a delicious milkshake (or two, or three...) in the Guernsey Dairy, which was situated in the town by where Holland & Barrett are now.situated It's been closed for quite a few years now. I grew up in the island, and spent (or perhaps mis-spent) much of my youth in the Lyric snooker hall, which was run by a likeable old Londoner, Jim Dixon, and managed by another Londoner, Brian, and by a local guy named Danny.. In fact the Lyric was the meeting place for many colourful local characters. As was my local pub 'the Helmsman' in Pedvin Street (or was it Cornet Street?), run by the Help family, a great bunch. This too, has now been closed a number of years.
If you go up the steps more or less opposite the fish market, you get to the Little Theatre, though I doubt if it's still there. I remember once playing piano there for a local group called Axis (under my proper name Mick Le Breton). Those were the hippie days, and the music then was really great. The local groups were good, too. There were, besides the very good Axis, a group called Ponders End, and then there were Humble Fred, and Spiggy Topes, Sam and Huck, The Westcoasters, Wally Le Page and the Vale Road Stompers, Us Limited, Johnny de Bougonniere, Phil Delahaye, and a number of others. I'm sure many of those musicians are still playing today.
Many places have disappeared. For example Collins Sweet shop in the Pollet, where I used to work (staffed by some gorgeous girls, Janet, Rose, Pat, Mina, to name just a few!), There was also a rival sweet shop down at the bottom of the Pollet called 'Le Tissiers'. I remember one evening catching Rose, who worked for Collins, buying for herself a bag of boiled Guernsey sweets at Le Tissiers. She told me strictly that I was not to say anything about it at work - we both worked at Collins at that time! Now I've spilled the beans, Rose! But don't worry, I'm confident there will be no repercussions after all this time!
Well, I've enjoyed reminiscing and could continue to do so for ages. But I'll sign off now and thank you for posting. God bless!

Hello, I spent my childhood in Alderney and as a teenager came to Guernsey. I worked at Guernsey Airport for 10 years for British Airways (seasonal staff) Was very happy in Guernsey. It holds good memories for me. Came to live in the West Midlands 46 years ago. Interested in your videos and of course, things change but I am sure Guernsey still, retains it's unique charm. Thanks for the videos, very professional. Christopher Walters ( Dudley )

Oooh oxygen and a stair lift please! Well, I enjoyed that quite a bit so thanks. My mobility is impaired and my daughter and her husband are moving to Guernsey with our grandchildren in July so I wanted to have a look and get a little bit of an idea. Now I have and I'll be checking your other video's out. You did the walking I couldn't so thanks for being my guide and my legs. Really lovely feel to a pretty island. Can't wait to see it. Fancy stopping at the lovely eatery and people watching and painting :) Thank you! Invaluable!

Came in on a cruise ship a few years ago. The problems started when we got outside the harbour on the return trip. The swell became a problem getting back onto the ship with the tender rising and falling from the landing platform. Great video as usual.

Clifton steps 9:15 is where I think The Little Theatre was. Always great for Christmas pantomimes. It burnt down in mysterious circumstances in the mid 1980's. There was also Renoir's disco under it or round the back.

Another great video, Ross. Thank you. Especially, your heavy breathing as you climbed all those steps! I was out of breath, too! I had a chuckle at the top. I would never have done that twice!
You asked us to let you know and, yes, you were walking down New Street. I used to work at 14 New Street (not quite a hundred years ago 😂) when Marshall Hoare & Chandler, Chartered Accountants, occupied the premises. Thank you for that little stroll down Memory Lane! I do love Guernsey.

Yes absolutely right about Jersey. Guernsey always best.. Better not say that when the muratti is on 😂
Are Gruts TV and Radio still in town Ross?
Way back they wanted to employ me but my application to the states was deemed non essential. I was really hopeful as I could have been a way to return home.

hello; you were asking for comments about not having a MacDonalds in Guernsey. Don't worry you're not missing anything. However it did get me thinking as to why you have a Morrisons and a Sports Direct but not other large UK outlets. When I lived in Guernsey as a child I know that the government there were intent on not letting Guernsey become commercialised like Jersey with neon signage etc on shops etc. As a result Guernsey has retained a special uniqueness which is lovely. It does raise the question though "how do you get in the same "club" as Morrisons and Sports Direct?!!! Mmmmm!

Thank you for that Ross. All the years we lived there and I never climbed any of the steps around town. There was a sign in the wall by the steps you eventually took saying the first steps were private - you missed it. Boots, Town Church and the banks stay the same from my years there (40s - 60s) Dix Neuf used to be Maison Carre in my time. Thank you for taking me back to my home Island. Jocelyn Le Page NZ.

Hi Ross, Another great video. When you mentioned the market I remembered when it was a market when they sold Veg, Meat, Fish and cut flowers. I had an idea you would come to a dead end when you said what till the end it but a fit young man like you should be running up those steps lol. Keep up the good work Ross.

Hi another excellent video of St Peter Port I would like to thank you for making this video. The city looks amazing and the views were great from the top of those steps locking out to sea, the roof tops and castle cornet. The streets around St Peter port look so awesome. I have autism so i would not like to be to close to the canon going off at noon as loud noises go through me.

My daughter lives on Guernsey and we used to visit often. Getting a bit old now so our visits stopped pre_covid. We visited Dix Neuf and it was not a good experience. There were 3 members of staff and not many customers. Despite making eye contact they made no attempt to serve us and after 20mins we walked out, even as we left still no reaction🤔

The first steps are Clifton Steps. VERY steep, awesome workout and fantastic view at the top. Clifton Steps were the steps you should have taken Ross. No dead end and amazing view.
16:31 was the top of Clifton Steps.
Those two cars at 18:53 were very naughty. You are supposed to come to a dead stop at yellow lines.

Staying in the only 3 star hotel on the seafront in st peters port. you could do a video on the walk to town from it Ross, Just an idea i know its not a dead end lol, its called The Piette Hotel and it is up past the co-op by about five minutes walk, Can i also say while im here i find it good how the Co-op is made to fit in with the look of all the other buildings around it, i.e signage all inside the windows and not on the walls outside, had you noticed that.
