I remember when this kit first hit the shelves. It was on almost everyone’s must-get list. I bet it will be quite a showpiece still, with aftermarket parts put on. 😍
According to ScaleMates the kit was first introduced in 1992. Man that makes me feel old. Good looking kit no matter the age. Wish the side door was left open. Cheers.
Just FYI, in US Navy speak, helicopter is shortened to helo, pronounced hee-low. And Helo 66 was used for the recovery of all Lunar missions from Apollos 8 to 13. And a bit of history, after the Apollo Program ended, 66 went back to an ASW helicopter squadron for regular duty, and ended up ditching off San Diego during a training flight in 1975 and not salvaged. The wreck was located in 1500 feet of water, and in 2004 a group of private individuals tried to organize a salvage effort to recover and preserve the aircraft, but it went nowhere.
Built that in 2005. And just FYI - I know on the SH-60B the cockpit interior WAS black - I was an Aircrewman and did a lot of the corrosion control cleanup and painting... the CABIN was a medium grey (fabric & metal)
Another great review! I've had one in my "stash" for a while, hoping to maybe complete it as the RAF ASR version that is now sadly disappeared from our skies! Have to see what the aftermarket brings!
Hi Nige. I’ve built the AEW2 version of this kit and with a little bit of scratch building and care it come out as a great kit. I looked at doing an Apollo sea king as you have mentioned but I think you will need, amongst other things, a replacement right hand sponson without the MAD (magnetic anomaly detector) installation. Enjoy!
End of May for the rerelease, I think you, Paul and Chris got the last three of the last issue. I’m getting the new issue and getting the Flightpath multimedia set for a conversion to HAR.3. It’s a good kit for what it is.
Almost bought this back in the day, but was so disappointed by the lack of separate doors, empty interior, lack of detail for the folding tail etc, that I decided to give it a miss. Much better kits available in 72nd and with more detail.
The kit I'm building at the moment arrived from Amazon with just an address label on it , are they trying to save money on packaging or just can't be arsed ? , love to jess.
So if you want your step, you would have to look around for photo-etch or do a scratch build Nigel. It might b interesting for you to show how you would go about doing that, showing how you convert photographs into a correctly scale part.
Really cool. Have a great build.
That looks quite a nice oldie. I didn’t sleep last night either. I had a new kit delivered today, íthe
GWH 1/32 Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 Flying Tigers.

You will need a mighty wide shelf.

It's a great kit Nigel, builds up nice. Can't wait to see how your's, Monkey's and Chris's turn out

I believe 13 was not the same helo as the others?
I am amazed that no modern kit of the Seaking has surfaced so far. About time! Maybe ICM is considering an 1/35 kit? 😬
There's a decent thread on Apollo recovery mission conversion of this kit on Britmodeller Nige.
It looks so cool! Gerat! Thank You!

Can’t wait to get mine
I built this kit a few years ago. Went together ok, but the molding is dated. Wish we could get a newer up to date kit. Also how about a S-55 in 1/48?
Just bought it from Amazon did build it years ago first pop have the same idea as your self Apollo 13
oh yeah …we have a little you scratch my back going on 😂
Always add gift option when buying from Amazon that guarantees it being in a box
Been available on Plaza Japan for ages
It's been available on pre order for ages...

I have a 1994 hasegawa catalouge with a 1/48 seaking in it maybe your one is a rerelease
Hasegawa has re-released it now
I know.. that's how I got this one.
Nice looking kit. I have never built a Hassagawa kit lol. Pre-order price looks a bit on the expensive side. So, I think I will pass on this one.
Not my kind of thing but its looks great
Was it sent from Amazon (should say "fulfilled by amazon" in the listing) or direct from the seller?

2004 ? I bought one in the 1990's...According to Scalemates, first released in 1992. Lot of fit issues, will never buy again.
Nice kit mate ,Great review as always, Sorry I have been MIA as well you can understand, Cheers Jason PS Email Sent
How much after market would this take to convert to the RAF yellow bird?
Check out the DJ Parkin sets, or just search 1/48 SH-3 on Hannants.
Pity it is an american version. There seems to be so few UK versions available
Just a comment for the algorithm
