Hi, I play bass in Ellis Hall's band. We usually play this song in a set when we play concerts. The story behind the tune is one of Ellis' managers at the time was going through a rough time with his wife and were going to end up with a divorce. Ellis played a demo recording for his manager and then played it for his wife and to this day the manager and his wife have been married for over 30 years!
This is one of those tunes you simply just can't get enough of! So totally beautiful with Ellis' vocals and the horns, the background vocals and most of all Richard Elliott's solo man i can here it over and over and over again! I'd like to think of myself as, if not the biggest, at least as one the bands biggest fans in Sweden!
@DawgcityClev This is Ellis Hall. This tune is off the "Power" album which came out in '87. Ellis wrote most of the songs for this album. He was lead vocalist with Tower from '85 to '88. There's a dvd video out "Tower of Power live from Iowa State University" recorded in '85 or '86 and Ellis is the front man. Check it out, it's a cool video! By the way, Larry Braggs joined the band in 2000. He's been with the band for almost 12 years now which is the longest for any singer they've had.
I heard this song on the "Quiet Storm" in New York City back in the day and wrote a letter to the Dee Jay to get the name of the song..... Now I play it all the time on "UA-cam"........ Thanks!
don't ever take this song off. it still brings tears to my eyes.remembering backing in 1987 when my son was born he was fussy I use to play this song sitting on the porch to relax him. i just wish i could find the song so i could download it do anybody know where i can download it at?
I was less than 5 feet from them when they did this at the old bottom line in nyc. Right around when the album was released and we had never heard of Ellis Hall or Richard Elliott. Richard had to reprogram Ellis DX7 before the set lol real comedian as he joked with the audience with each step. He made sea gull sounds with his sax during his solo. In short they smoked as usual.
As Always in everything Ellis Hall does, INCREDIBLE! Ellis, what about 'Lady in Passing' ? That was an equally fantastic song. I am going back a few years, like maybe over 30 years, but I never forget a Great song. Mike Quigley
People keep saying this was Ellis Hall, but where is this confirmed? Larry Braggs sang lead for this group with a couple others but Ellis name doesn't surface.
This song is taken from the Power album on which Ellis was the lead vocalist. If you don't believe it you can always check it out on either allmusic or discogs. This was released back in 1987 and Larry "LB" Braggs didn't join the band until early '2000s.
I don't think the song was ever recorded on an album. Just from Ellis' Promo back in the 70's which I hope to hand him back when he is in the Boston area. Actually, there were several songs Ellis did along with a 'Live' version of Some Days were meant for Rain' in which my older brother, now deceased, played Bass. Also on the recording was John Baker who Ellis went to school with at Perkins in Watertown, Mass. I am hoping to hand them back to Ellis. It is a Respect thing.
