I had no idea that only the aft booster segments needed to be climate controlled on those rail cars - great video!

I was 8 years old when Armstrong walked on the moon. Here in the UK it was between 3 and 4 in the morning when it happened, but my Mum made me get up and watch it on the black and white tele we had back them. "This is a moment in history", she said, "you'll thank me for getting you up to see it when you're grown up..." !!!

The PAN AM logo in 2001 was on a less futuristic vehicle than imagined in the movie

Great vid! The loco is based on the RS-1 from WW2. We used them to move military freight from the Gulf to Tehran. The Russians kept borrowing them and what do you know they designed the RS-1ski. The gauge is 5 foot, as are all railways in former Soviet states.

Charlie, once again you produced a very interesting display of our nation's ''get er done philosophy''. God bless the USA.

Your videos and comments are superb. I think they are the best on UA-cam. As s modeler, it would be great to see an astronaut take a model train into space and release it into zero gravity. I don't care about the scale. If astronauts can carry golf clubs and balls into space, why not a model train?

Slight correction, the SLS five segment solid propellant boosters, unlike the Space Shuttle four segment boosters, will not be recovered. Like the RS-25 liquid Main motors, they are just going to use up all of the stored Space Shuttle motor hardware and when they run out, will make more single use motors as long as the SLS is still relevant.

    • @Mega747400

sls will not be relevant once starship is fully certified.

    watching those shuttlewagons move was...painful
the booster segment trains setup is really cool though
i do love how the russians use rails to move an entire rocket, unfortunately i havnt been able to find out much about the rails themselves though, lot of the ussr used 75kg/m rails for the heaviest operations, but i dont know if that is even enough for the rockets weight
even more so for the n1 rocket, even though it was straddled between two parallel tracks thats some serious weight

Those shuttlewagons look horrifically underpowered for moving a train of that size and weight...
Nasa should seriously consider investing in a new locomotive from something like MPI, or even something second hand to give those poor things a break...

    • @MervynPartin

Leasing launch pads and facilities to Space X and ULA, Defence spending on military and intelligence launches. Plus tourists (like me) spending money in the souvenir shops in KSC (LOL 😂)
