Insane story. Glad to see that you got out of a sticky situation, so to speak and managed to catch your flight. Airplane crashes are tragic, but the good news is that they're extremely rare. It makes sense to be afraid of flying because it seems unnatural, but the reality is that it's actually one of the safest things you can do. It's far more likely to die or be injured doing lots of things we do every day than flying in an airplane.

I lost 2 pilot friends in the airline I was cabin crew for.
We lost 1 plane when I was working there, and another after I left.
After the 1st one, I was unsure if I'd be able to work again, as the shock completely floored me. My nerves were wrecked. I really struggled to get back to work, as did many of my colleagues. We had no expert medical help brought in after the crash (like an experienced counselor), so it made dealing with it extremely difficult. Only an offer to speak to my manager, who had zero qualifications in dealing with such things. It was pointless speaking to him.

@@LexieLimitless I find the timing of your story and Manifest very interesting because it was around this time, around 6 years ago, that my family and I were supposed to be involved in the next plane disaster. On a flight heading into Miami to catch a connection flight to Columbia my parents, little brother, and I were all seated in the exit row. At the time my little brother and I were too small to be seated there and a flgiht attendant politely asked my little brother and I to move to another empty seat. So we did and in my sassy youngster mind I thought, "Nothing will happen anyway. No point in relocating seats." Then towards the very end of the flight I noticed something extremely odd. See I have a lot of family in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami so I've taken the flight there a few times. Something wasn't right. We were flying low to the ground and I knew we were where we needed to be because we kept circling the Everglades. Then the captain came on the speaker system and said, "Ladies and gentlemen please listen to your flight attendants as they give you brace instructions. Our landing gear is having difficulty coming out. It seems to be stuck. We will continue to do our best to get the landing gear open but as we arrive closer to the run way we ask that you leave everything on the plan and listen to the crew on board. Thank you." Now I was too young to truly see the gravity of the situation but any adult on the plane immediately knew the danger they were in. As we arrived closer to the run way the flight attendants shouted continously for us to out our heads down and get into brace position. Then all of a sudden our landing gear came out. We landed just like any other flight and everyone was sobbing but excited to be alive. Still not grasping the situation we were in I looked outside of the window. Every single emergency respinse unit that the airport had, as well as other first responders, were on the tarmac waiting for the plane to land without landing gear and potentially go up in flames. They were preparing for the worst case scenario.

As a former flight attendant (see previous comments), I often had to be involved in such situations as accidents or incidents. I even witnessed from up close the site of such an event 3 days after the occurrence, and the aircraft involved was very familiar to me as I was "qualified" to fly it. Emotional and surreal.
Then I've also been through many incidents, including a desert/sea storm in Israel which left our pilots pulling their top skills and deepest knowledge of flying to get the whole of us safe and sound on the ground. I also just can't forget this armoured tank taking place on the landing strip in front of our plane, as we were stuck in Sierra Leone in the heart of a rebellion. Yet another one ! Or this humanitarian flight for which I volunteered, to take refugees from Bosnia and fly them in Palestine.
And so many other weird, but punch-proofing, stories.
The most intense one being the sight, hours after signing with my first professional engagement with an airline, of the portraits of the crew members killed in flight. Their DC-10 was destroyed by a bomb over the Ténéré desert, and the investigations led to an attack prepared by the Lybian secret services. Those colleagues, which I never had the honor to know, died for financial and political reasons, and this shook me as it was my very first day in this job. Never shall I forget those faces in the entrance hall of our company.
So my unconditional support goes to you, for what you've accomplished on location, then what you had to face on your way back. It seems this was supposed to be a challenge, as it eventually proved, and you were more than up to it. Bravo, this proves your new skills and processes (including meditation) are the way to go.
I'm wishing you the best, with some hope we can meet one day (along with the Yes family, of course !). Stay safe and take good care.

It ended up landing, but there was a major incident during the meal service. The food went flying everywhere. Even the pilot said this had never happened during his flying experience up until then.

He would have left Sunday, except that he ended up in the hospital with an inflamed gallbladder the next day. If the flight hadn't been canceled, he would have ended up in a medical emergency either on a plane or in a country with poor or no healthcare. It was a very scary time, but something was definitely looking out for my dad then.

My colleague and I were going on a business trip from Brussels to Munchen. Because flights were cheaper the day before from Eindhoven Airport, we left a day earlier. In the morning of March 22th, 2016 (when we were supposed to leave) a bomb exploded in the departure hall of Brussels Airport, causing hundreds of people to get injured, of which more than a dozen died. It looked like a war zone and everything was basically wrecked. Luck was with us back then, and it felt so unreal to have avoided disaster and possibly death, but many people were not as lucky as my colleague and I, which feels so unfair. I might not know what you felt exactly when you were standing in the fields where that aircraft crashed, but the least I can say is that I can relate. Life is soo precious, yet peculiarly random, or some call it fate. Whatever it is that one believes: enjoying every part of it, exploring and creating memories is my way of making it worthwhile.
Good luck and keep up the adventures!

Fun story you'd probably appreciate. This took place in Washington state. A few years back, I was going through a divorce (I promise this is relevant, not spam) and one day I went to one of the hearings and I sat outside on one of the benches. There were a few women there having a conversation about 'whatcha doing at the courthouse?' One of the ladies and her legal team was there taking legal action against Boeing. She mentioned a few things. One, her department was rejecting products off of the production line for safety. Those pieces were later used on the aircrafts regardless. Two, safety features are being implemented into the aircrafts without being standard and also without being implemented into the manuals. When the first 747MAX went down, I wondered if this is what she was talking about? I have NEVER seen her again and I'm not optimistic that she won her case.

Fearful flyer here. I tried to avoid airline travel as much as possible. But there are times when I have to fly, whether it be for work or in my personal life. Whenever I do have to fly, I try to sedate myself on Dramamine to help me pass out, otherwise I go into full-blown panic mode. People try to reassure me with the odds, saying that I can fly without fear because nothing bad will happen. But then I remind them of all the poor souls who were tragically killed in airplane crashes/accidents and supposedly those souls had the same odds. So it's fair to say that I'll never feel safe in an airplane. I just wish there was some other form of transportation that didn't involve flying 6 miles above the Earth's surface at 500+ MPH, but unfortunately, there's not many options here in the U.S. The train system (Amtrak) is a joke. If we had reliable bullet trains like Japan, then I would visit my family on the east coast more often.

Lexie's story is NOT a survival story. Her story is NOT honoring those who died in this tragic accident. The victims who were there spent the last moments of their life in pure terror; Lexie was NOT there and has NO connection to those experiences.
Sharing this story and pretending she could have died is shameful and sad. Again, SHE WASN'T THERE. Her visit to the crash site was not respectful because once again she made it about her in making a big deal about the rain "not wanting her to leave." The cinematic footage was all about her and her monetary goals to get views, not about honoring the people who died there.
I am glad that she wasn't there so she wasn't counted among the victims, but please don't make these horrible events about you.

I personally know someone who missed this flight because she missed the first leg to Addis Ababa due to traffic on her way to the airport from her home country. It still haunts her to this day. Let me put it this way it’s like being on the interstate and you see a horrible accident and you left 10 minutes late and you go wow good thing I left 10 minutes late.
