Hi Vince, its me again. I've worked in the building trade for over 40 years. I can almost guarantee you. It will be a tear in the flexy pipe where it joins from the toilet to the soil pipe. The reason a flexy pipe is used on toilets is there will be a tricky bend to make the connection. Your best bet is remove your toilet and see if you can feel or see any tears. Also there might be a chance you can replace it without cutting a big hole in your wall.
Here in the US you're not even supposed to use those flexy pipes. All those little ridges just hold water and waste. Plumbers here rage against them. You usually find them in bathroom vanities after a remodel where the new sink didn't line up with the old pipe. If you want to see the plumbing subreddit rage then post a picture of a flexy pipe.
Is toilet exited straight out the back into a solid pipe. Most likely somebody did a renovation and cut off the vent pipe and it backed up into the house
As an Electronics teacher can I say you are AMAZING. We dearly acknowledge your gift to show people how to repair things. Thank you for all the effort you make to present such an important way for humanity to save tons of waste going to landfill. Keep it up at encouraging everyone to give it a go😂😂😂😂😅😅😅
Hi Vince, as a plumber, I would recommend going through the ceiling. It's only plasterboard and, as others have already mentioned, you'll probably want to have that plasterboard out anyway, given that it's water from the soil pipes (more ''brown water' than grey 🤢)
UA-cam has recently started suggesting your videos to me and I love them! I need to get a lot better at soldering before I can do these sorts of fixes.
After repairing hundreds of leaks. My advice is ,take down the ceiling plaster board between the joists.. It needs replacing anyway. You should get better access to the leak.
I have watched every single one of your trying to fix videos, all the way back to when you had almost no tools. I look forward to them every week like a favorite tv program. Please never stop!
It’s amazing ain’t it? These lovely guys and girls making such stellar YT content have replaced the decent terrestrial TV we used to watch of an evening, which is now almost completely unwatchable and uninteresting dross.
Hi Vince. The 18650 battery has an over voltage protection built in under the positive cap (if you look closely, the positive cap has holes around it) Not sure you should mention it in a video as its horrendously dangerous, but theres a little pressure plate that pops up under it - disconnecting the batteries internally. You can however reset these if you are brave (do it outside!) by finding something thin enough to fit into the holes, yet strong enough to exert a bit of force to push the plate back down. Ive done it with a jewellers screwdriver in the past but please be aware how close the negative case of the battery is to the positive terminal if you are going to use something conductive. (ive tried cocktail sticks in the past with varying success - ive also melted a few screwdrivers!) - Back to YOUR ups - My guess is theres something wrong with the charge circuit - not cutting off at 4.2 volts as you are not meant to tricle charge lithiums.
I'm an electrician not a plumber but I've done lots of plumbing for myself and friends + family. What I would do immediately is: 1. Make the bathroom (where you unblocked the toilet) out of bounds - nothing goes down the drain (w.c. sink or shower). You can still brush teeth with a bottle of water and a bowl if it helps. 2. Take the floorboards back up and put as much lightweight absorbent material as poss. wherever the water is. You want to soak up as much as you can to reduce quantity soaking into ceiling below. Hopefully might save it from needing replastering. However if you know how much your house insurance excess is and you're happy to have it repaired and decorated you might want to ignore any advice like this.
I mean, if that's the sewage line that's leaking on the ceiling then it's probably going to have to be cut out and replaced. I personally wouldn't trust it from not molding or smelling. Also, if it's the sewage line then it's probably going to keep dripping even if they're not using the bathroom, especially if the blockage is further down from the leak. Vince needs to get a plumber in there ASAP.
Hi Vince! I saw your attempt to repair that Nebula video projector. In the past I had one with the same defect (it turned on but did not display anything). The solution was quite simple, because in my case I applied more pressure on the design pill in the DLP block. Try this in the DLP block, namely where the chip is positioned, you will notice a small radiator fixed with 3 spring screws that maintains pressure on the contacts of the DLP chip. An spring was missing from mine, a sign that someone had walked there in the past. I replaced the spring and with the video projector turned on I started applying pressure to each screw (I tightened them one turn at a time) and at some point ... boom the lamp came on and everything was working normally. Please excuse my English and I hope this method will work for you too. I wish you good luck!
I hope you get your plumbing problem sorted out quickly and cheaply Vince. I hate anything to do with water as I just don't understand plumbing. We recently moved into our current home and from day one we had problems with flushing the toilet. Those problems got worse and eventually the toilet became completely blocked. So we used various drain and toilet unblocking liquids, but to little effect. We also used one of those wire things you showed in the Screwfix book, but that didn't make any difference. We then bought a plunger and it kind of made a little difference, but not much. Then it just stopped draining at all. We knew it was blocked and needed looking at, but hadn't got around to doing anything as, over time, it did still drain away. Then our son-in-law was walking outside around the house and noticed what appeared to be toilet paper around the edge of a big man-hole. He lifted it up and hey presto - the whole sewage drain was backed up to ground level! Cut a long story short, we called out a drainage chap and he unblocked the lot. It had backed up from the mains sewerage right up to the toilet, kitchen and utility room outlets. It turned out the previous owner had been disposing of her cooking fat down the sink, and over time it had just solidified and blocked the main sewerage pipes, so no wonder everything was struggling to drain away! She had passed away in January 2021, so it must have already been blocked since then, and we just added to it. Took the guy 2 hours to fully unblock everything and it's been perfect since. So I was expecting a major problem and large expense, but it turned out to be a simple blockage and £90 was all it cost - on a Sunday too and he turned up less than 30 minutes after I called him. So although your problem may feel bad, you may find out it is a relatively easy fix. I hope so. Cheers. Oh, and by the way, I had a very similar experience to your Ibiza holiday. When I was 20, I got sh*tfaced on a BOGOF drink offer in a massive night club in Brighton. One minute I was dancing (that's a very loose term) with a girl, who from memory was the most attractive woman on the face of the earth (although I'll never know), and then I knew I was about to chuck, so I said to her I'd be back in a minute, and went off to the toilets. Straight away, like you, I was on my knees and spewing into the bowl. I then got up and feeling a little 'delicate', sat on the closed toilet seat to take a rest and try to feel better. About 4 hours later I suddenly came to, still sitting on the toilet, but not knowing where I was. It was absolutely pitch black as all lights had been turned off and it took me ages to find my way out to the foyer. I had to call the old bill to get me out! You would think they would check all toilet cubicles before locking the place up, but they didn't that night, so I can concur that getting locked inside a pub or club can happen! I wonder what the girl thought? She last saw me sort of walking, wobbling, off the dance floor, never to be seen again. I know she was absolutely stunning. Probably. Maybe.
Hey Vince, Something I do when I get a blockage, which happens similar to your situation is cover any drains, and then take a wet vac to the toilet, and it will suck up whatever is blocking the pipes
Loved this one because you showed how plumbing problems affect your calmness in much the same way they do for most non plumbing people. Hope its sorted now.
I would probably use a hole cutter, as large as you have, 10cm plus and drill an inspection hole in the downstairs ceiling. A small hole you can replaster. That will enable you to see the underside of the soil pipe. These pipes are ok with a flush of water, but if water sits in them ( i.e a blockage) they will leak around a joint. Good luck, and keep doing such good videos.
Yes my main bathroom WC will leak from it's waste pipe if the kids block it but dry as a bone normaly and thats the WC installed by a professional 😂 the one I installed dosnt leak but I may have put silicone round all the joints to make sure 😂
Oof good luck with the leaking water situation, I can definitely relate. I recently moved into a new house and the previous owner installed the upstairs shower diverter backwards so the first shower I took leaked a load of water into my dining room ceiling ruining it. Had to get it all torn out, dehumidifiers run for a week, and replaced/repainted. Repairs were in the tens of thousands but luckily the new home owner insurance I got covered it. It was a major stress though.
I really seriously loved this, we can see your face, and you keep everything absolutely authentic, from failed attempts to personal home issues, and how to keep calm and carry on, as that's the only way to fix things. I recently fixed the door handle on our washing machine (just wear and tear on the plastic), easy fix £13 replacement door handle and mechanical extras, 5 minute job.
Great video with some good fixes. That water leak is a real pain it's more than likely to do with the sewer pipe these pipes are not made to hold water and because your pipe goes along on the level rather than just going down to the out side it will have a tendency to hold a little water. The pipe being blocked and full of water has put a lot of pressure on the joints and one of the joints has more than likely slightly come apart with you forcing water through it will have made it come apart a little more. Hope you find the leak and can fix it with out too much trouble.
I repaired an Epson DLP projector for my local pub (I was paid in beer credits). It was the DMD chip that had overheated because the air filter had not been kept clean and had had a good dose of builders dust. Like yourself, I learned about how they work and was really blown away. Apparently the DLP technology will be going into cars to replace display screens and no doubt many other items. Good luck with the leak. Maybe an endoscope camera might help.
30 or so years ago the demonstrations nits were in circulation with a microscope aimed at the mirror array so you could watch it work. Bigger, hotter and lower resolution in those days (and rather more expensive). HP in the old days. But very bright in comparison with everything else (mostly CRT based projectors) and much longer lifespan. Add LED light sources and the future is great indeed.
@mymatevince when our toilet/bath was doing that, it ended up being a faulty Durgo valve (air emittance valve) the valve had gone and was causing some type of weird pressurising issues which looked like my toilet was blocked, also regurgitating soiled water up the bath hole, same exact symptoms. Makes sense for a second bathroom to be fitted with an Ai remittance valve as it would be away from your main soil pipe. Have a look for one, might be boxed in somewhere!
Hi Vince , I had a leak and what I didn’t think of at the time is water flows to the lowest point so the leak could be away from the point where you notice it. Great and funny video especially your art work.
A relative of mine had a water leak that required a large section of floor to be replaced. I fixed the leaky pipe but I didnt have the tools or knowledge to redo the floor. The homeowner insurance policy covered the floor repair and they paid to completely re-plumb the whole house. 10 guys came out and did everything in less than a day. So it may be worth checking your insurance policy. Good luck!
This video has great variety! The drain problem is real weird though, a blockage on it's own wouldnt cause that leak i'd say. Curious to hear what went wrong where!! Thx Vince!!
After watching your vids for ages it's great to put a face to the voice. Of course you look different to how I imagined, but not in a bad way. Well done for allowing yourself to be vulnerable, a lot of us would not. Especially most of the people who post rude comments I expect.
Sorry for your plumbing problems, but this kind of thing kept me employed for the last 20 years, Any blockage will put more pressure on, or more of the joints, than is normally the case (a sort of worst case scenario for sealing). Release of blockage pressure gives a pressure wave against the leaky seal , a final spit as it were, hence the increased leak which if blockage free may never re-occur. Suspects are 1.any glued joins. 2 .displaced rubber seals from push fit joints on the upper part of the pipe. 3 A new screw/nail gone into the pipe on decoration/new fittings (this last took me 2 days to find and only then after close interrogation of the owner) OK problem found, let it dry out thoroughly, 3 weeks?, use stainblock or eggshell "gloss" as first coat, dry period, before normal white emulsion, otherwise water staining will show through. Sorry if I missed any thing, but congratulations on the right approach, it's so rare to see these days. Much enjoyment from your pieces, and I learn a little more at every video.
for future reference re blocked loo. fill a bucked with cold water and "drop" the water so it hits right down the middle of the hole. the pressure is usualy enough to dislodge even to most stuborn log with out the need to get on your hands and knees and put your hands in there.
Another great video, Vince! The leak and water damage is a bit of a sod. You should have seen the mess I made when trying to bleed our radiatiors. Unscrewed the bolt too much, that and the radiator key shot off, and out fired a jet of dirty brown water all over the wallpaper!! 😬 All these newbies talking about the face reveal... Us old skool viewers have known what you've looked like for ages! 😂 (I'm also in the 40+ silver fox club, btw!)
Another great video. I bet the 'Water wipes' featured at 48 minutes was what blocked the toilet, so called flushable wipes. Like someone else suggested I'd also look at the flexible coupling on the toilet waste then remove a section of ceiling for access sometimes the worst way is the best way. I had a similar adventue in Ibiza LOL thanks for sharing
Had a thought this morning that you may of punctured the flexi pan connector behind the boxing when sending your fish wire through. You may of introduced a second leak. Check the first leak with the hot water running & heating on. It may only be visible when the pipes are hot & joints have expanded.
Batteries: the dead ones will be protected flat-top and that particular protection PCB will be preventing charge of the cell, now it's dropped under the trigger voltage. Cut the wrap off, remove the circular PCB from the positive side of the cell and they'll probably charge again. The replacements you put in looked like unprotected flat tops (slightly shorter) VTC6 or 25R by the look of them.
what do you need to fix stuff? a soldering iron and vinces YT comment section, awesome community, learned so much from your videos AND out of the comments below. so much talented people here :)
Get a bucket and a screwdriver poke a hole in the ceiling catch thew water in the bucket then lower to the floor ,you will have a puddle above the boards and if not drained it will fetch the ceiling down, looking at the ceiling it looks like its been patched before ? When its drained cut a hole in the ceiling and have a look, because them plaster boards will have to be replaced anyway, you could out food colouring in the toilet and see if you get coloured water in the bucket , don't forget you will have a fall on the 110 mm pipe so it could be leaking from somewhere higher up and running down to your chimney breast ,good luck 🤞
My advice is call a plumber NOW. It's clearly the sewage pipe that's leaking. You're not going to slap some flex tape on it and walk away. This requires a professional fix and probably a new sewage line wherever the leak is. I know from experience that the sewage line will probably NOT stop leaking even if you don't use the bathroom. You'll just slow it to a drip if you're lucky. Even if there's no water in the pipe, the leftover traces of solid waste will continue to hold in moisture and that will eventually find it's way down to the leak. This is a job that requires an immediate professional unless (1) you like mold or (2) you're fine with dumping a few gallons of solid waste into your living room.
Or: (3) There are insufficient funds to hire a professional, and so a "temporary" fix is better than nothing. My Grandfather was the master of the temporary fix. Happily, he died before ever having to address the impact of several decades of deferred maintenance.
Hi Vince, regarding you blockage, a mop makes a good plunger for toilets. I suspect one of the smaller waste pipes will be bossed onto the 4" soil pipe, i have had it in the past where the waste pipe from a sink has been pushed too far into a boss fitting restricting the flow on the main soil pipe over time as toilet paper and the likes gather over time. Just from the video i would look at the wash hand basin in the other bathroom as it looked as it was bossed directly into the top of the soil pipe , if this is pushed in too far that would cause a blockage at that point and explain why everything in the other bathroom was blocked,
Quite a good summary of how DLP projectors work Vince 🙂 From my past experience it will be the power circuit causing the problem, but might be worth checking: - Firmware updates? Don't know the model but maybe there is a firmware update to resolve the issue? - Full reset, if you can find a service manual for the product, is there a factory/lamp reset?
As always. A greatly entertaining video. Quick tip on unblocking a toilet, if you can get a hosepipe or extend your shower hose (Some hosepipes will fit the shower thread) then with water on full thrust pull shoot water through. An amazing tip and yes it works. If a sink is blocked and you do not have a plunger, but you do have a Pringles Crisps tube to hand, put the Pringles tube upside down over the plughole, press down to seal and sharply squeeze the tube to force air into the drain. I have used both these things and helped myself. I got the idea for the water pipe from the German spike defences on the beaches at Normandy (How Rommel created holes to put in the spikes rather than digging). And the Pringles in desperation trying to find any way to get pressure into a sink drain.
starting 30mm from the cove cut a square hole( center of the stain)(do not breathe in the dust, for obvious reasons)400mm x 400mm neatly on the lounge ceiling, this will expose the plumbing and allow you enough space to work, after you fix the leak you can screw back the original plasterboard with 25mm screws and a couple of pieces of 50mm x 15 mm timber. Before painting you will need to give it a coat of shellac or stain block as the stain will bleed through the emulsion paint.
I had a similar issue with my bog. Rodding is pointless. I fixed mine with an air blaster. You pump this device up,, push it against the U bend and pull the trigger. The shockwave passes through the water and breaks the blockage.
Crack out an oscillating tool and cut that drywall out from below, Vince. That way you will be able to see where the water is coming from cause that's where it is ending up. You are right that if you don't do it now, it's going to get worse, water problems never get better on their own. I had a similar leak I had to fix, and despite everything I tried to avoid having to cut open the ceiling, it was the only way to see what was going on and I knew it would come to that so it's better to dive in and just bite the bullet and start cutting. And make a video out of it!! I love your home repair fix it videos!
👍😊 Trying to fix plumbing 👍 I enjoy all parts of your repairs but I am interested in the outcome of the plumbing issue. Thank you for all your videos. 👍
Hey Vince, a top tip if the toilet blocks again get a mop, flush the toilet and quickly use the mop as a plunger, this is guaranteed to solve the problem
Great video Vince. I feel your pain with the plumbing. Shortly after buying our home I had to replace 30 feet of drain line for the kitchen sink. Thankfully, it was fully accessible in the basement, but eww did it stink. Have fun, you can do it!
19:13 Alien Technology is right! I understand the physics behind it but the manufacturing process seems mind boggling. Keep up the good work fella and, as always, stay safe!
The older DLP's used a colour wheel but still had the mirror matrix, I replaced/upgraded a dlp chip because it suffered from stars and dots which is a fail mode for each of the mirrors getting stuck
As soon as I saw the flexipipe alarm bells rang in my head. Not sure if we have those in Canada I've never seen one. Wouldn't surprise me if someone local to you is a fan of your channel and we be delighted to help you out. Not me though I'm in Toronto and would make the problem worse 😁
In my head I had imagined this as an April's Fools video and it be a montage of trying to fix random things that aren't objects. Like being a marriage counselor and trying to fix a relationship lmao. I enjoy all your videos! Thank you so much for all your work on filming, editing, and of course fixing 😁
Hi Vince. As for the soil pipe, I am guessing there is a join that isn't fully sealed at the top of the pipe but now the blockage has gone, maybe you won't get anymore leakage. Forcing water with your hands like a plunger will force the water to pour out of that tiny opening even more so hold on to ripping the ceiling for the time being and monitor it. Obviously if the ceiling continues to get wet or is damaged then it will need to be done.
A previous reply suggests trying to reset the 'over voltage' protection under the positive cell terminal. I urge you not to attempt this as it is risky potentially dangerous: it is an over pressure protection trip not over-voltage. This means that the electrolyte in the cell has evaporated (it's alcohol based) and the cell has already suffered significant damage. Even if you get it to work it will have a serious loss of capacity. A cell showing reverse polarity is damaged beyond repair and it too is potentially dangerous/fire hazard. As to why this may have happened in this unit is that the cells weren't balanced or they are not being balance charged (there is usually a protection chip on the board to prevent this, but they can fail). Otherwise I enjoy your videos they're always fun to watch 😀
Those 18650 batteries have safety valves under the positive terminal which disconnect the battery when over pressure occures. If you want, you can reactivate by gently poking with a screwdriver under the positive cap, (there are usually small slits around, or cut with side cutters like a can) and gently pressing down. Careful, it is easy to perforate the cell.
Plumbing: dude, 2 things going on. 1. Blocked soil pipe between outer wc & inner wc. 2. Pre existing soil pipe seal failure. So fix 1. Then live with 2. Which had probably been there since new. Unblock using a flexible Toolstation drain cleaner both flexible metal & bamboo from soil pipe outside. If there isn't access, add or upgrade with a rodding joint from Toolstation. Nb The block raises water level which enables pre existing seal failure to leak. Rodding from downhill is more effective. Also hot water + caustic soda can work.
Hi Vince there could be a crack in the toilet bowl. It happens. Thats why when siliconing around the base you should also leave a small bit open so if there is a leak below the bowl the water will escape and you will know.I would cut away any silicone below the bowl and see if water comes out or take the bowl out and see if its wet below. Also the fact that you flushed the toilet so many times also points towards the toilet itself.
great bunch of fixes. The depolarized batteries is a sure fire sign that the battery innards have failed in a big way and there is no fixing them. It can happen if they are charged enough times or if they are left discharged for a long period. They have chemically broken down and they are highly dangerous. The toilet, its probably a good idea to have a twisty drain rod as you showed in the house for emergencies anyway. My feeling is that you have a crack or split in the pipe that some tissue got caught on and over the course of a few months caught more tissues (and stuff) until it blocked. When you pushed the water through it will force clear the blockage but may also open up the failure point causing more water to leak though. I think the best thing is to put an insurance claim in and get a plumber to fix and decorator to make good rather than tearing half your house up looking for the leak. Maybe it could be found using an endoscope type camera?
The colour of the staining certainly tells you the source, its going to be worth accessing the pipe to see whats going on. Water gets everywhere and from experience I would say the weakest point will be the pan connector on the back of the WC. The fact that you had a blockage couple imply that there is more going on. Like others have said, removed the plasterboard and likely coving from the lounge and hopefully all will be obvious.
2:31 Now that's something I need. A programmable switch controller. Every time I play Switch for a reasonable period of time, when I go back to PC or Playstation I keep pressing the wrong buttons for OK and Cancel.
Water leaks always suck had a roof leak in our sunroom and had to rip the corner of the room down to the studs and replace some rotten roof deking and re shing part of the roof only for the ceiling to feel damp again after closing all the drywall up. Best of luck with the plumbing leak hope it's at least a bit less of a nightmare.
Vince I sympathise with you on the water leak. My house is an early 70s, where the water pipe comes into the house. For some stupid reasons it runs inside the wall cavity then all the way up to the attic, we had the same as you, all be it fresh water, but the staining is the same colour due to dirt/dust in the wall and plaster. All we could do is chop out the whole pipe and replace it as there was no access to repair the leak in place.. In your case yip take out the stained piece of plasterboard and inspect the pipework from their, you more than likely have a leaky joint, it only takes a steady slow drip to make a large stain. Best of luck with the repair.
Hang on you just reminded me with the projector I think there could have been a possibility of at some point in it's time it may have had DC instead of AC or AC instead of DC but seeing how complicated it is it's most likely not going to make it any easier to fix
Oh no I feel so bad for you Vince I pray that you can get the leakage fixed even if it doesn't end up in a video at all just updates on it at the start of any video would be nice so I don't have to keep panicking I'm already really really really worried about that massive leak patch on the ceiling downstairs the carpet is going to be an absolute nightmare I still remember that episode when you found out what kind of carpet it actually was but I don't remember that well don't worry about a video on it it's not important the safety of you and your family is priority I'm really freaking out right now just thinking about it all so I'm going to go and try calm down Lots Of Love Mate
This is my daily life condensed in one hour. I'd say overall you get more fixes than failures, but the failures tend to be big and annoying ones. I call it the fixing balance.
You need to get yourself a simple endoscope. I've got one that just plugs into the USB port on my phone (though it came with a C to A adapter so it can go into a computer too), and it was only $15 USD from Temu. It's nothing fancy, but the thing you in particular will want to look for is frame rate, rather than any quality claims. They're really useful for reaching into areas that are just really tight. For your repair videos, it'll be handy since you can look inside the thing you're trying to repair, without needing to fully take it apart. (If you're willing to spend more, you can get one with a tip that can be manipulated, but don't expect to find one of them for less than $150 USD). Regarding the snake, the term for those pipe unclogger things, I recently upgraded from a free-spooled version like the one pictured in that magazine, to a captured snake which keeps the coil inside a plastic housing and lets you hook it up to a drill for much better operation. I'd HIGHLY recommend going with the enclosed version as it's so much more sanitary to handle, does a better job, and honestly is easier to use. Thankfully, the price difference isn't much. As for the leak, I'd highly recommend contacting some kind of professional at least for 2nd opinion/advice ASAP. If it is brown water (toilet discharge), then it can contain all sorts of nasty things that you REALLY don't want sitting in the walls or ceiling for any period of time. It's also not good for your lungs.
Vince that ceilings done for now. Get a cutter and have it so you can see the problem from below. I’d love to see you soldering some copper pipe. The get a good plasterer to fix up your ceiling. That’s a high skill job, but if you wanna have a crack I know we’d all watch that too.
A real nice variety of items and I'd love to see a "normal" household instead of ridicioulous overcleaned rooms. Sometimes you don't have time for everything.
I literally had the same toilet pipe problem you had today ! i didn't have to pull any carpet up and i used to be a carpet fitter ! my house was built in 1939,a good quality house ! that was built well, but things do go wrong in any house ! mine was clogged up with partners long hair that gets trapped,i had to undo the the fittings and clean them (i don't mind doing that) water now running freely,i hope you find the leak, these newer houses are sometimes hard to find ! because of the leak it so difficult to determine where the leak is it is a hard thing to do as modern floors are not accessible as older ones ! like they are plywood and covered ! Plus the amount of pipes and plumbing over the years has changed, there is a lot more of it !
It's possible that those 18650s from the UPS have protection circuits built into them that has cut them off for falling below safe levels. Peel back the shrinkwrap and see if there is a circuit board on either end of the battery.
There are very few things about the house that trigger my immediate, complete need for intervention: pests and water leaks. Out of concern for mould and deeper substance damage, I would do the water thing immediately and rip open anything that is not up in the trees. Best of luck!
Great video as always, Vince! Great job fixing the torch and the controller! Bummer about the toilet, though, hope everything gets fixed easily and w/o any external leaks! Also, about the "old man waiting to die" comment - we all know you'd be fixing things until your arms and legs give out and after they do, you'll solder on a new pair and just keep on fixing stuff! Good luck on your future fixes!
If you want to learn about the stuff you talk about in @19:13 searsch for “Mems” or “Micro electro-mechanism systems” A lot of special sensors are made this way. Good stuff you show us here😃 also: did you know arial actuators on airplaines arent actual “actuators” there a special materials pulling them up where the plate is the actual structural mounting. When needed in flight those plates can be manipulated by sending a current thru, lifting the arials up.😮
Strange that that was a factory short on that controller because many if not all manufacturers of electronic devices have a quality inspection control and before shipping they check for possible errors, on some devices you can even see a label ''passed'' or with similar text on it... Cheers!
Such a well trained husband even while fixing the toilet the plastic seat it still down. As always very interesting repairs to watch, thanks for the videos.
Good luck Vince sounds like you have a lot going on at the moment. Selfishly I hope you can still release regular videos and looking forward to an update on the RR
Hello, Sir Vince. The water has to have a positive air pressure vent from above like on the roof, kind of like the vent hole on a disposable coffee cup lid, to let you drink freely, especially if it's a multilevel home. Maybe check the roof vent to see if you can get air down through that. That's at least how USA houses are designed. Just an idea.
Blocked toilet grab a hand towl and stuff it in toilet bowl once its soaked shove towel up and down like a plunger works a treat.. as for damp patch .. Vince mate thats called a leak 😂 keep us updated please.. love your videos.. I've banged watched them from the start over the last year while being off sick will kidney disease.
You’re some kind of electrical technician/handy man/part mechanic. Is there anything you can’t do 😂 I love the videos though. The wide variety of videos is great, it’s not all the same thing every week 😇😇😇
don't worry about us seeing a little mess around your house, a little mess adds some charm. related toilet story, my parents often have to get someone out to clear their drains because when the council built the bungalows on their street, the drains were fitted in such a way that sewage gets flushed away uphill. in fact, one couple has the guy out so often he's even on their Christmas card list
Also there might be a chance you can replace it without cutting a big hole in your wall.
yep hate them flexi's had numerous problems with those, looks like they had no choice as its running flush with the joist for a straight fit.
I have faith. Vince can fix the world's problems
Hahaha, one bit of eBay junk at a time Phil. Cheers buddy, hope you're keeping well 👍
who can fix a rolce can fix world peace too ^^
@@TobiEstosWorld I was about to say Vince can try to fix world peace
Go with Christ (Cartman in EP 'Teacher bangs a boy). Cartman as 'Dog the bounty hunter'.. Love your channel too mate.
on original xbox controler button A and B are switched. Strange controler you have there, also Y and X are switched
Thank you!!!
After repairing hundreds of leaks. My advice is ,take down the ceiling plaster board between the joists.. It needs replacing anyway. You should get better access to the leak.
I am older than you and think you are a really patient and honest fixer, from watches to cars, showing the young how it's done!
Hi Vince. The 18650 battery has an over voltage protection built in under the positive cap (if you look closely, the positive cap has holes around it)
Not sure you should mention it in a video as its horrendously dangerous, but theres a little pressure plate that pops up under it - disconnecting the batteries internally.
Thank you Adrian, I'll try this later this week sometime. Thank you👍👍👍👍👍
That would imply there are broken solder joints. I'd say try reflowing the solder joints on the QFP and then install the spring.
Probably. Maybe.
Hahaha, great stories! Thanks for sharing 😂👌
Blood and vomit and locked in the toilet. You are truly a man of the people. Keep up the good work 😊
I felt really bad for you seeing that water leak in the ceiling. Hope you find the leak and get it sorted asap.
Hey Vince,
Something I do when I get a blockage, which happens similar to your situation is cover any drains, and then take a wet vac to the toilet, and it will suck up whatever is blocking the pipes
Sorry to hear you had to go through that especially straight after moving in. I'm currently working on my leak right now😂 Hope you're keeping well👍
My entire life of home ownership has been dealing with water either not going where it needs to or being where it's not supposed to be! Best of luck!
Exactly, if the angle of the pipe is too shallow it will tend to hold water/block until the joint fails, I have a similar problem...
I've been missing your videos for the last 8 days, and old man !! WTH ?? you look awesome Sir.. 🥰
3 A new screw/nail gone into the pipe on decoration/new fittings (this last took me 2 days to find and only then after close interrogation of the owner)
OK problem found, let it dry out thoroughly, 3 weeks?, use stainblock or eggshell "gloss" as first coat, dry period, before normal white emulsion, otherwise water staining will show through. Sorry if I missed any thing, but congratulations on the right approach, it's so rare to see these days. Much enjoyment from your pieces, and I learn a little more at every video.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this. I might do a revisit video to see if I can actually find the leak this time and fix it 👍👍👍
Loving the new "facing the camera" talks. Makes it a bit more personal.
for future reference re blocked loo. fill a bucked with cold water and "drop" the water so it hits right down the middle of the hole. the pressure is usualy enough to dislodge even to most stuborn log with out the need to get on your hands and knees and put your hands in there.
Another great video, Vince! The leak and water damage is a bit of a sod. You should have seen the mess I made when trying to bleed our radiatiors. Unscrewed the bolt too much, that and the radiator key shot off, and out fired a jet of dirty brown water all over the wallpaper!! 😬
All these newbies talking about the face reveal... Us old skool viewers have known what you've looked like for ages! 😂 (I'm also in the 40+ silver fox club, btw!)
I really feel your pain with the leak! Hope you get it sorted without too much hassle
The toilet holiday story was a classic, we have all been there Vince
23:32 love your attitude about wasting time on a repair, even an attempt is valuable due to the learning.
This is why i love this channel. I always attempt to fix everything as well! Why throw out perfectly good things if you can fix them
what do you need to fix stuff? a soldering iron and vinces YT comment section, awesome community, learned so much from your videos AND out of the comments below. so much talented people here :)
You're not old, just experienced through curiousoty.
I enjoy your videoes very much and you've made me give broken things a go to try and repair them.
That water leak really sucks... But I would really like to see how it turns out and know what caused it.
Just from the video i would look at the wash hand basin in the other bathroom as it looked as it was bossed directly into the top of the soil pipe , if this is pushed in too far that would cause a blockage at that point and explain why everything in the other bathroom was blocked,
Very good advice Dave, I didn't think of that at all and I was in there a few months ago to clear hair out of that pipework 👌👍👍👍👍👍
Id like to see a follow up of the leak fix.
Quite a good summary of how DLP projectors work Vince 🙂
From my past experience it will be the power circuit causing the problem, but might be worth checking:
- Firmware updates? Don't know the model but maybe there is a firmware update to resolve the issue?
- Full reset, if you can find a service manual for the product, is there a factory/lamp reset?
Nice i was just thinking yesterday i haven't seen Vince upload in a while and here you are with an upload.
Or you could just go buy a snake and a plunger.
Not on a Sunday where I live :-)@@ClunkerSlim
Thrilled to be able to join this repair-journey.
Cheers for taking us with you, mate!
starting 30mm from the cove cut a square hole( center of the stain)(do not breathe in the dust, for obvious reasons)400mm x 400mm neatly on the lounge ceiling, this will expose the plumbing and allow you enough space to work, after you fix the leak you can screw back the original plasterboard with 25mm screws and a couple of pieces of 50mm x 15 mm timber.
I was amazed to see that flooring panel was screwed, not nailed!
Thanks for the video Vince. I feel your pain about the ceiling. Hopefully u can get it sorted with minimal disruption
Thanks for the extra long video Vince! I must say I've been missing the RR. I enjoyed your story from your younger years. Thanks for sharing.
Really enjoyed this one! Nice veriety of things. Wish you luck finding the leak Vince.
Great video Vince keep up the best fix it videos on youtube
Most people specialise in computers, consoles or phones. But Vince will try to fix anything, from torches to toilets!
FACE REVEAL! 😍 Awesome video as always, Vince. I hope you get that leak sorted. 👍
Thanks Steve😎
Hi Vince. Great video. Ive had problems with a pipe chase which was non existant. So as you can guess the whole thing was a total nightmare.
If you want to learn about the stuff you talk about in @19:13 searsch for “Mems” or “Micro electro-mechanism systems”
A lot of special sensors are made this way.
Good stuff you show us here😃 also: did you know arial actuators on airplaines arent actual “actuators” there a special materials pulling them up where the plate is the actual structural mounting. When needed in flight those plates can be manipulated by sending a current thru, lifting the arials up.😮
Hiya Vince I bought a disco mixer that was stuck in mono it was a short from manufacture great video
Strange that that was a factory short on that controller because many if not all manufacturers of electronic devices have a quality inspection control and before shipping they check for possible errors, on some devices you can even see a label ''passed'' or with similar text on it...
Cheers!
Excellent video, as always. Best of luck with the plumbing issues.
I really like these videos because you try to fix things that nobody else has
Such a well trained husband even while fixing the toilet the plastic seat it still down. As always very interesting repairs to watch, thanks for the videos.
Enjoyed watching this. Thanks, Vince
Another great video Vince. Sorry to see the plumbing problems.
Good luck Vince sounds like you have a lot going on at the moment. Selfishly I hope you can still release regular videos and looking forward to an update on the RR
These videos are so entertaining Vince. Great to watch to chill out too. Hope you get that leak fixed soon.
