First ten minutes of Dinosaur Planet feels like it was written by AI Dungeon.
Krystal is flying on a pterodactyl mentioning a wizard and a floating mountain, and all of a sudden a flying ship with a living dinosaur head shows up, a giant lizard man busts through a door, makes some threats, grabs a cage and is struck by lightning, screams in pain but then laughs and teleports away. The fact that we have a build of Dinosaur Planet on hand and people are working on reverse engineer into a more playable form soon is kind of a miracle. A lot of what Vinny played on stream is very close what was polished for Star Fox Adventures but there's charming the way it plays and looks thru the N64 hardware. I'm glad that we finally have Dinosaur Planet, and I'm hoping the long term sees fan content (and prior works) continue the marriage between the two. Maybe we'll see a day where the narrative issues of DP and the gameplay issues of SFA fixed into a cohesive game. After all, I can understand the predicament of this game's development and the likely outcome if it had stayed on the N64. The transition to the Gamecube and franchise was probably made by Rare Higher-ups to keep the company afloat, but as time would have it Nintendo forgot to update the brand agreement. Overall this game was the victim of time and place leading to a rushed final release; only if we had gotten the SFA beta. I'll leave the future of both series up to passionate fans, and maybe we can get something that surpasses the vision Rare had.

I wonder if that's even what led to Zelda design stagnating a bit after OoT - trying to develop that game maybe led the team to conclude such an idea was impossible on current tech, and then they hesitated to go for it in later games

this is a bit of an aside, but seeing this stuff has me even more stoked for BOTW2 and beyond now - if BOTW was the culmination of game-design ambitions the Zelda team had been nursing for TWENTY YEARS, I have a gut feeling that they're gonna get even wilder with the lore and ideas now that they've finally figured out how to make what they've always really wanted to do!

I do understand how it is a very bad fit for the Star Fox series and I agree it would have been better as its own Dinosaur Planet game, and the final game has some obnoxious elements such as some frustrating mini games and backtracking, but man the GameCube version looks so pretty, much nicer graphics than the N64 honestly, as well as the lovely music by David Wise

I'm genuinely curious about this. How many of us have played a childhood game several times after... You know, being a child, yet retained 'nostalgia'? There are games that used to be that way for me, but I've played them many times over the years. So while I still do have special memories affiliated with the game and all that, it doesn't give me that patented "nostalgia feeling" that you normally would get. I guess that Vinny hasn't played the original Ocarina of Time in a long, long time to still be nostalgic about it, though.
