    I bought that Stiletto Duce Stage II from Kyle and I still own it. Running it with a Marshall 1960A Lead cab loaded with Black Label EV12Ls, Fortin Zuul, an Airis Savage Drive V5 and or a Dirty Tree in front. Amazing amp, I'll never get rid of it! Thank you Kyle!!!! Dude you are the best!

      I have 100watt stg 2 in the croco tolex and croco tolex oversize straight recto cab. Its got v30s. My 1960 slant 4x12 Marshall has authentic british greenbacks and the mesa sounds better through it except when on the second channel. Then the recto cab sounds tighter….

      It absolutely kicks ass with V30, you just dial the amp differently than how you'd do with other speakers.

    Own a stage 1 deuce. Heard negative things about them on-line but plugged it in and after messing with the controls a bit I’m really pleased with it. Even fluid drive sounds good with a bit of tinkering and an OD808X out front. Also running greenbacks - they definitely suit the amp.

    One trick you can employ is to turn down the master of the channel ever so slightly, then compensate the volume with the output knob. Rounds off the top end just a little, and brings back some more mids :)

    • @KHGuitarFreak1988

      The reason I shared this is because a lot of people state that the treble control being up higher makes it harsh :)

    Hey man. Love your content. Just wanna give a bit of feedback if that's OK?
    One of the things I love the most about your channel is how you dive into an amp from square one and dial it in step-by-step to perfection. I'd love to see you retain as much of that as possible so I'd say if you feel like you're rushing through things to prevent your videos from being too long, consider releasing a part 2 for videos with an abundance of content. Your analysis and tonecrafting is why I watch your videos. Of course the tones are dope too, but how you lift the veil on these amps from square one is really helpful for people like me and I'd hate to see that disappear from your videos. Cheers man!

    I love it everytime you bring out the EMG loaded e-ii eclipse. It's by far your best sounding guitar to my ears. Also preferred the mesa can tonally as well. But I'm finding v30 loaded mesa 4x12s just have that thing tonally I like most.

    I had this amp head and the only cabinet that removed those ear-shredding icepick treble frequencies was an Orange 4x12 which also added significant bass response. Every bright amp I happen to use now is plugged into the Orange; it's a perfect match for the JCM900's in my opinion.

  • @SolarWarden88

    Have both a Deuce Stage I and Stage II. They're fantastic amps. People shit on these because they came out in the height of the Nu-Metal era and all anyone wanted was Rectifiers. If you know how to dial this amp in, and listen to your ears, this thing absolutely rapes a Rectifier series amp. There's something that happens when you open this amp up and crank it, it gets this throaty roar that cuts through a mix almost like no other amp on the market. It does this thing that not even Marshall's do with their throatiness. The transformers in this thing are huge, and it's got the chrome chassis! So sexy, Mesa needs to start offering that as a premium pay option again lol.

  • @nj1255
    @nj1255 Рік тому +5

    Definitely sounds just like I would expect Mesa's take on a modded Marshall would sound. I kinda get why they stopped producing them tho. When you are looking to buy a Mesa, you are looking for something unapologetically American sounding, and trying to compete with the likes of Friedman, Bogner, Wizard, Suhr etc (aside from Marshall themselves) in the "hot rodded Marshall" sector is not an easy task. It's probably the most over-saturated amp type on the tube amp market. It definitely sounds awesome though!

  • @Boogieplex
    @Boogieplex Рік тому +1

    Great video, huge Mesa/Boogie and Marshall fan here(just look at my name). But why I never tried one is due to everyone saying they’re harsh, including Kyle here. But man, you got it sounding great. Speakers are a MASSIVE element to tone. Think of what makes a great voice, is the way a person’s vocal cords vibrate. Speakers are your guitar rig’s vocal cords.

  • @lordgraga
    @lordgraga Рік тому +5

    I like that you made a case for the speaker! The amp isn't bad but I would definitely struggle to be 100% happy with it due to that harsh top. The bottom also seems overly tight (at least on the recording), but that might just be the boost? I would definitely also move the SM57 more off the center, or add another one in Fredman micing.

    I have a 2X12 Ace combo with V30s and a Deuce with a Standard Oversized cab with V30s. They both sound great. You have to pull the presence down to about 10:30, highs and mids to 10:30, bass to taste, gain to taste. Put it to tube rectification and the spongy setting on the standby switch. The sweet spot on the master is at about 10:30. Effects loop level can make a difference too. Great amps! Sounds like a Marshall with Mesa gain staging.

    This amp would sound great through the Marshall oversized cab I have. Might be a mode 4, I'm not entirely sure. I am though a solid state head enthusiast. And the main reason is because of Dimebag. I've played tube heads, but in my opinion they need an overdrive in the front. I still use an overdrive in front of a solid state head, but I don't have to think about changing tubes, biasing. Just flip a switch and it's metal time. Cheers man, great video though.

    I'd be inerested to hear this amp in either a 1960a cab to see how it handle's t75's, and also a cab with Seventy-80's.
    The 1960 because that is a stock cab for more modern Marshall amps, and definitely compliments them nicely from my experience, but the Seventy-80's because they also work well with Marshall style amps, they are even stock for the DSL 40c.
    I like to occasionally use my DSL 50 with a custom closed-back Blackstar HTV-212 with stock Seventy-80's. It gives a very interesting sound with a lot of low resonance from the cab, low mids, and this extreme top-end spike that adds nasty grind to your drive sounds.

    I seem to remember that they intended this to compliment the rectifier!
    also honestly this is one of the best sounds you’ve ever gotten, and I don’t even like the stiletto usually lmAo

    Kyle, if you only had 1 overdrive with that amp, what would it be?

    Hey Kyle i just want to know, at this point in your youtube journey, is it currently able to fully support your living? Counting the adds revenue plus the sponsored vids?

    The Stilettos were my favorite Boogies. Great for articulate soloing. It's about that Marshall like squish.
    It is a subjectively chosen amp. Not nu metal fuzz amp.
    It's great for soloing

    Any chance we can see microphone demos? I know you picked up a Royer 121 not too long ago, I think I need to buy one... Not many good metal demos of mics on YT, especially for expensive ribbon mics.

    I owned a stage 1 Stiletto and it was the worst amp I’ve ever owned. Constantly in the shop, fluid drive was wack and tubby as all get out. Traded it straight up for a Dual Rec that I still own!

    You should consider doing this more often with the amps you demo. Not every amp sounds good with V30’s. I remember when you did a JVM demo with that Mesa Cab. It just wasn’t the right fit. I have a JVM myself and I know it sounds great with virtually anything but a V30. Great content though.

    Done the stilettos through every speaker. The eminence in my old Dean Markley 412ST were huge low end and dark, the Friedman 412/15 was brighter big time but still big low end. V30s sucked. Evm12Ls were massive low end but too much high sizzle. Greenbacks are normally my go to with many high gain amps. Speakers make the biggest final difference, guitar pickups are the first thing and affect feel big time

    I ran Eminence speakers in my cab for my Stilleto.

    For me, this definitely would be the kind of amp I would think of for 7 and even 8-string tones. Marshall-style amps are actually kind of the best for that thing, especially from my experience.
    I have both a DSL 50 and Vs100 and they can take an 8-string better than any amp I've ever played, even the boutique shit. Extended-range players are really sleeping on these types of amps.
