What happened to this Wendy's and the Hardee's that was two doors down from it, was that they dug down the road and built that bridge in front of them and it shut off the majority of traffic going by and killed their business.
I was born in 1984. So of course, I still remember these old school Wendy's buildings. Wendy's is my #3 favorite fast food restaurant. Ours in Salem, Ohio looked like that until early 2018 when they remodeled ours.
I’m from Charlottesville and I was surprised about this wendy’s. I’ve never really been out to Seminole a lot when I was a child or just can’t remember too much from it. I mainly stayed closer to Pantops and Downtown when growing up. I think it’s sooo cool to check this out and I kinda want to go check it out myself. Thanks so much for checking this out and i’m going to check out your BK video in Cville too because i’ve always been curious as to what happened before it transformed into another business.
I use to work at this exact location from 1982 to 1984, starting off as a crew member and leaving as Assistant Manager. I left Charlottesville for good in 1988. I guess Covid and the changes to Route 29 & Rio Road proved too much . I could tell you stories about that place.
I live near this city. The sad thing is, there are still one or two Wendy's here in town, but these places are largely run by people who simply don't care enough to do their job right, and revenues tend to drop when people can't count on their order being correct.
@@kittyroxs If you're referring to the one at Ridge-McIntire and Preston, it was actually quite good for awhile, I started having a lot of issues there. Of course the one closer to home seems to lose their cash register uplink every time it rains.
I used to visit this Wendy's for lunch once in a while, when I worked nearby in the late 1990's. One day, I ran into singer Barry White in there. Why he was in Charlottesville I don't know.
Growing up in Chicago, Wendy's was my favorite fast food restaurant my favorite menu item was the Frosty of course and I even had a map of all the Wendy's locations in the Chicagoland area, lol Also I loved the newsprint design on the tables and the logo on the signage outside
3:52 I certainly agree. When I think of fast food I think of the place having a mansard roof. Looks like this location was probably built in the 80s and last renovated in the mid-late 00s.
An awesome video, Wallie! I like the old school design of fast food restaurants myself. As for Wendy's, I grew up with the old time newspaper on the tables. Man, that was many years ago. Then again, I was born in 1962. I'll be 61 on November 15th. Have a Wendy'slicious Day!
@@ChonkyCats Thank you! Even though I'll be 61 on November 15th, I still have my health and my hair. I still wear my hair long, currently down on my shoulders. Lol
That outside freezer would have been their bun freezer and that room behind the first drive thru window was probably the dry stock area so all your cups and paper products, sauce packets ect. Worked at wendys for five years.. and that cheddar melt was long gone when I started there in 2013..lol.. so yep a blast from the past along with all the other stuff you were reading off the menu board
The Wendy's nearby my house is still in the old fashion style as seen in this video, and it's been open for 20+ years. I wonder why they haven't updated it yet.
Hearing a heavy Pittsburgh accent (where I was born), doing a show in Charlottesville (where I currently live) is a bit of a trip. This is the Wendy's I used to go to all the time when I first moved here 20 years ago.
The Monterey chicken sandwiches were amazing!!!! I use to drive to this location at least once a week on my break from the McDonald’s down the road!!!!!
I used to work down the road at the Gamestop (which is gone too) and it was awful to go there. I never had a good experience. Everything there is dying though.
I live in Charlottesville and saw you guys make this video!!!! I thought y’all were like ghost buster or something but It’s crazy I hop on UA-cam and you guys videos popped up that’s crazy! I sub to you so I won’t miss no more videos!
The funny thing about that old menu board you found is some items like the cheddar cheese burger and monetary jack chicken sandwich date back to the 90's so that should tell you how long they reused it. Crazy stuff
I grew up right by there. I went to that Wendy’s a whole lot. Sad to see it abandoned, but also, it’s just what is bound to happen when they remodeled and eliminated the solarium. Lol.
Wallie, My Wendy's Use to Look Just Like that Here In Richmond Kentucky, until They Changed the Design of it, I Absolutely Love Retro Buildings, I Miss The Early 2000s - 2010s
Used to eat there all the time live about 7 miles away it closed down when they redid 29 and put the underpasses in at Rio Road making it basically an accessible Hardee's was on the corner same with it it's a car lot the last I seen
Reminds me of the one in Wexford, PA, but you videoed that one before that was torn down. BTW, you need to come over to Fredericksburg next time you're in Virginia. Lots of good ole down and out old stores and restaurants.
Yup.. and remember the tables were imprinted with Victorian-era newspaper articles.. When you went to get a Dave's Deluxe it was like going back to the Gilded Age..
@@GeorgeWashingtonX Yes I had forgotten about those. IF I remember correctly it seems like they always had a service closet over by the front door that walled in the front entrance where those beads would hang. It held the trash and the staff would clear the tables for you back then.
@@vistatiger7493 yeah, I remember the strands of colorful beads, and I think one Wendy's near my childhood house had louvered wooden doors inside too. Always seemed like a strange fast-food aesthetic, but they did use to advertise as 'Old fashioned' burgers.. I assume they were trying to create a vintage dining experience, and in some way separate themselves from the harsh (modern) plastic look that McDonalds & Burger King had in the late 70s/80 etc (?)
Yeah another banger video and how's your day and thank you for making me hungry 😂 but ngl I enjoy ur vids and when I get older I want to be like you looking at abandoned buildings let's keep the train going 😂😂😂😂😂 I said train bc u do train videos 😂
i lived in some dallas area and everything was old schooled like the 7 eleven, taco bell and wendys were vintage. years later i went back to that same area and everything was remodeled and there was even a new ice cream shop built but the wendys remained old school which i thought was nice
I remember back to the 1980’s just the scent of those squares burgers I could almost levitate through the drive through 😂 Anybody remember there hot bar and salad bar good times😊
Cool video yeah the great old school style a fast food buildings are dwindling it's a darn shame how cheap things are made these days there was a true experience to go into a fast food restaurant you could go in and have a great time with your friends or family in one but nowadays it's all about getting the money out of you and getting you out the door I do like the fact that your documenting these old abandoned places before they're gone forever course I've always thought in the back of my mind after watching your video how interesting it may would be to buy one of these shut down restaurant buildings and make a house out of it this video showing this how much room there is in the building that you just filmed it would probably make one cool house awesome video and keep up the great work.
Yoooooooo!!!!!! I might have seen you out here!!! I live a couple minutes up the road from this place but I remember seeing that yellow car outside the old place when I drove by one day!!! Haha small world. This place had the worst service. I had to go there on break when I worked at the Gamestop that used to be right next to this place. Did you guys get Ottos? You like it? I got Chris Chan stories if you want em to. Weirdo used to come into Gamestops all the time when I was working.
Strange video. We sure have too many car washes. Papa Johns near me stopped delivering a couple months ago and are gone. Tuesday Morning left a couple years ago.
Yea that one closed this year, honestly was surprised it didn't close sooner because of how few went there to eat and how difficult it is to get in and out of it
I was last in that Wendy's in the summer of 2019. I was working nearby and was on my lunch break, along with a lot of other people. The power went out for a few seconds, but their POS system didn't have UPS backup, so basically all the orders were gone. Everyone had to go back to the counter with their receipt and they had to prepare the order with the information on the receipts. It was a shit show, but at least the manager was able to keep things running. No thanks to the cheap ass franchise owner. Guess that's why he took the money and ran when the pandemic hit rather than trying to tough it out for his employees. Also, I'm glad you took the chance to explore local food options. C'ville is actually in the top 10 of restaurants per capita in the US, and since we don't have things like Cracker Barrel or Olive Garden, you can imagine a lot of those restaurants are local eateries offering unique and well-crafted items.
I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, home to Wendy’s. It used to be better and my favorite quick bite spot, but it got bought out and isn’t as good. As far as Turkish food, all Mediterranean food is similar, and awesome. I’d rather have a falafel sandwich than anything hedge fund Wendy’s serves.
The Ruckersville one is where Chris worked at until he scared a child with a Donald Duck impersonation
This particular Wendy's died in large part because it was such a pain to navigate 29 South to get in and out of it.
Truth. I think I drove through there once in the 26 years I've lived here. Location, Location, Location...

I hope you found a decent meal that day in C'ville (as we locals like to call it), there are so many good places downtown.
That Wendy’s closed because of the redesigning of rt.29. It became almost isolated. Love your content by the way!
