I think yall just need a better definition of what a commentary is. Strictly talking about yourself and playing like crane or kaysu did is a more pure commentary. But recently challenge videos and collabs have started to be considered as “commentaries”. So if you aren’t going to draw a line there, then any talking through a topic becomes a commentary. That essentially leaves only 3 categories of video: story videos, event videos, and “cOmEnTaRiEs”. By the definition we have somehow switched to, people like ignacio would be commentary youtubers, and I would argue that potaopie and oficey are commentary youtubers But really, in the end trying to antagonize a category of content is just stupid, watch what you enjoy watching and make the types of things you want to see
Every video where somebody talks is a commentary video, because they are making a commentary of the situation, and even videos without talking if anything appears in chat that is also a commentary smh
Its not the commentaries which are the problem rather its how most if not all ytbers in that niche copy the same editing style, titles, thumbnails and ideas lol. Youve probably seen a million "bedwars is too easy" videos, or "the BEST hive duo" videos w the same title and thumbnail. I personally think its fine but it can get super demotivating since most of that content does super well, even with less time taken on each video Tbf its always been an issue, and the content is made for children which is hives biggest demographic so it makes sense why it works. Ive realised its not worth comparing each channel to each other sincr at the end of the day even if we all make hive content our viewer demographics are all different from each other
no these kinds of videos get old because no one has their own personality and just act like Technoblade except 100x worse + with a clickbait bedwars title and thumbnail, same tonality and everything it's like watching ai generated hive videos nothing wrong with inspo/influence but some of u are just like robots. then it's demoralizing when that gets 50k views over something with actual effort in it
i largely disagree with this video on a whole for multiple reasons: 1) hive commentaries are a rising trend because other formats of hive content have their creators mainly taking a break because they take extensive work. thats how youtube works, with such high effort videos people are bound to burnout. thats why there is a spike in hive commentaries because most high effort video creators are taking a break so commentary creators are taking over for the time being, at least thats how i reading the current trends. 2) quantity over quality is not the problem with most hive commentators. not to self promo, but i only upload like once every few weeks and my editing and pacing is not nearly as good as other hive commentators. there is def a skill gap within hive commentaries with pacing, narration, etc. while not extensive of a skill tree as other more elaborate videos, one still has to understand how to keep a video entertaining with minimal editing . 3) sure, commentary videos are taking over but he never explicitly states why this is a bad thing for the hive community as a whole. in fact, considering how they get a lot of views, its safe to assume that they are actually benefiting the community because people are still enjoying some form of hive content, even though they arent as cinematic as other creator's videos. 4) he defines "commentary videos" very loosely. if you look at deffect, the creator he is critiquing the most, his videos are mix between "challenge videos" and actual commentary videos. he seems to define commentary videos as videos that do not follow the traditional minutetech/mrbeast style of content and have more minimal editing. when critiquing a form of content, we need to properly define what that form of content is like and the general structural trends throughout the video before properly critiquing it 5) and in the end, just to quote defectt from this comment section cause he said it really well "trying to antagonize a category of content is just stupid, watch what you enjoy watching and make the types of things you want to see." there is nothing inherently wrong with commentary videos as a whole. did i eventually stop clicking on their videos? yes, i am guilty of that but there is nothing inherently wrong with the saturation of commentary videos within the hive space because they aren't actively harming videos like other forms of media.
personally, i don’t think there’s anything wrong with commentaries or similar types of content. it would just be nice if there were also creators in the hive community doing more creative and unique ideas, even if less often.

Since I'm a animator and make animation videos, I can say that I'm a underrated hive animator in comments that is just me talking about something about the topic, while saying about me being as a animator.
at this point the commentaries have become like the pack folders videos of some time ago, repetitive, identical to each other, i miss when there was variety in the Hive community
The problem with hive content is that apparently Oficey isn’t uploading until 2025 (For context he messed up the premiere and it says it’ll premiere in 2025 instead of 2024)
The thing is not about the commentaries, its about why theres so much recently. Sure ignacio and PotatoPie are technically commentary youtubers, but either that the videos were mostly commentaries that were important/original or that there were also yt collabs/challenge videos. And the thing with nibbles is that its mostly a challenge/event video, with some being a commentary. I dont hate any commentary youtuber, but its hard seeing that fans have actually kinda ADAPTED to this commentary style. I made 1 commentary video, with many editing mistakes, and i got MORE views then an actual edited video. Its dumb. It makes smallers UA-camrs (LIKE ME) with a passion in Hive Content, (that arent commentaries) SO MUCH HARDER ITS ACTUALLY CRAZY. I even think some of the most recent youtube ranks on the Hive are commentary youtubers… YOU guys didnt want Officey to move to commentaries, but you can already see why he would do that.
I honestly believe(or idk maybe I'm just on heavy copium and am hoping) that this drought of quality content will pass because it'll attract people that actually want to make good videos. Right now that's the only reason I'm sticking with still making hive content and just supporting the hive community in general because I see so much potential for it. There's even other UA-camrs doing this like glitchrocube, poggy, ackoof and such and I mean even you became popular because your videos are actually good. I just hope that this trend continues of more and more people pushing out quality content so the gap in between making these videos across different UA-camrs doesn't seem as big so we can prove that the hive deserves quality content.
Crazy thing guys, typically, when things to so well, that means that people like them 🤯. Think of Technoblade. The problem isn't commentaries. The problem is people only copying success with lower quality. People call out defectt all the time but I would honestly much rather watch a defectt video than some generic, over-edited hive challenge. It's not lazier, it's just a different type of content that requires less effort for an honestly, more entertaining result.
I don't think commentarys are a bad thing as in lots of people enjoy commentarys and getting to know more about what that person is talking about. and not everyone does just commentarys theres also lots of other creators that do other types of content. if you wish to see a change maybe try working on your on content, as in maybe try to start working on your own content instead of name dropping other people and trying to say that commentarys are taking over hive and the people that are making them are lazy. but overall i dont see anything wrong with commentarys.

It’s an easy view farm and it gives you easy subscribers, that’s the main reason people like defectt and especially nibbles are as big as they are. Not all of your videos are commentaries but I think mostly all are.
@@MythicubeYT I don’t really know bro sadly, I’m not a content creator, if you check my channel you will see I have no videos. So the best solution is to ask someone that doesn’t do commentaries.
The problem I had was time, i made back to back good quality content which was SO much fun and did amazing but very time consuming, I then had a strike of motivation and decide to make commentaries as I wanted to post something and tell people about cool stuff that's happening/happened in my life, I made 2 and they did well considering how long I was gone. But after I made them I didn't want to post anymore, they felt cheap and boring, if I had more time I would carry on making quality videos but I don't so sadly i'm a very inconsistent UA-camr in this community, if anyone misses my content/streams i'm sorry.
commentaries are 100% an issue and hive youtubers who priorotize quality>quantity are litteraly STUCK.. the main reason ive slowed down is cuz commentary yters are getting the same amout or even more views than i do with less than half the hardwork. But now that ignacio has returned, MAYBE this could change.
Commentaries might be the reason why people are quitting or could be the problem but it’s not really the whole reason why. It’s mostly because of the hives community it’s just way too toxic and people are just super rude and just unpleasant that’s why most people leave because of the hate. That’s one of the reasons why I left too. I wish people in the hive can be more nicer and fair

The problem with hive content in 2024 is there is not enough Oficey content… I totally agree with what you say. People that make edits or montages back then would of been noticed but now small montage ytbers gain no subs per montage/edit
There is still hope! Most of the small youtubers do better videos. We may not have the best pc's or the best editing, but at least we are doing better videos. Even if commentary's take over, in the future, It will change.
This issue about repetitiveness has been around longer than the last about year or so this content has taken over, just that now since it’s absolutely NO ONE that’s doing anything different and is considered a face of content creation it’s presence has increased. Also everyone cares about their analytics too much, are we still wondering why those creators who “quit” as mentioned in the video had quit? They also become an issue because even they don’t have passion for the actual content they come out with when views get into the way. Haven’t seen someone genuinely happy about their work in ages.
I think he means commentary videos that don't that don't really have a point, as in ones that aren't really talking about anything, don't have a script, or are just terribly edited.
I believe in quality over quantity but it doesn’t really negatively affect the community. It just makes content stale. Also there are still some hive content other than commentaries like montages and edits which is what I mainly make but non-commentaries are still really hard to find and is bring drowned out by the algorithm. I dont think commentaries are totally bad. I could see it’s possible to balance it out instead of completely eliminating it.
Commentary videos by themselves are fine. Its when there isn't any other non-commentary content to watch and the only thing you can watch from Hive content is commentaries is when it becomes a problem.
honestly, UA-camrs like Defectt, Avery Doors, Lil Tub Bubble, Nibbles, and FireUltra, also need some support at least for the content they make. Yeah, they do a LOT of commentaries, but we need to support them as MUCH as we need to support Novus, LilMac, and McWMike for their loss. Those 3 make really well-edited and high-quality videos that they just disappeared, and as for the other commentary UA-camrs, they also need some support because they also made these videos for the fans! People have been learning strats and other stuff thanks to the commentary youtubers, and dont get me wrong, the stories they say are sometimes really interesting to hear. Thanks to all of these youtubers, they wouldnt have made the Hive.. THE HIVE!
Honestly commentary videos aren't bad, but they do get very stale and repetitive eventually. It is hard to enjoy them when they are spammed everywhere, and no one puts any effort into them. We just need a little bit more unique content then I feel it would balance it out. Then maybe watching those commentaries every once and a while might actually be enjoyable. 😅
i’d agree, with all due respect hive content is now primarily just squeezing out every single seed of content there is. The only problem about this is when people do quality > quantity, it severely impacts their channel as they can’t be consistent. So i guess to commentary creators, its basically a cheat code Id also like to mention another influence could have potentially been kaysu. As from what i seen back when he uploaded, he gained so much subscribers in a shot spac of time before quitting.
The problem is not with the hive nor the content creators. The decline started when Minecraft bedrock just started sucking. The input lag and the other issues. Many players quit. The lack of malleability in Minecraft makes it more sucking. I cannot create better content on the hive other than repetitive montages and commentaries due to the lack of replay mod and shaders. Quantity over quality is often better because U learn but in this case. Hive is bigger than cube craft now but quality now is just bad and content is not really fun
I completely agree with you hands down , new era of hive content is being copy and pasted . I remember when hive content was actually good i use to be excited now its literally all the same and im glad you made a video explaining about the problem of it to the public.
I agree with this video as people can easily get views and subs by doing commentaries! Like the people who do original ideas (like me) barely get views unless they're popular that is (I subbed)
Good video oficey. I personally think the YTers with commentaries are going well, but thats not good enough. Im trying to be original, but I lack video ideas. So I stick to streaming until a video shows up in my brain. Other YTers like dynams, are doing really well with originality, which caps Hive content. I want to make videos no one has seen before. Commentaries, yeah they all have different topics, kinda just feel like a minecraft school class tbh. So for the rarity of those of you reading all of this, I want to put more work into OG content. Maybe even mixing things up. You will start to see new things from me. So I can help end this issue that Hive content is on its downtrend.

Finally 1 year later
The problem I had was time, i made back to back good quality content which was SO much fun and did amazing but very time consuming, I then had a strike of motivation and decide to make commentaries as I wanted to post something and tell people about cool stuff that's happening/happened in my life, I made 2 and they did well considering how long I was gone.
But after I made them I didn't want to post anymore, they felt cheap and boring, if I had more time I would carry on making quality videos but I don't so sadly i'm a very inconsistent UA-camr in this community, if anyone misses my content/streams i'm sorry.

commentaries are 100% an issue and hive youtubers who priorotize quality>quantity are litteraly STUCK.. the main reason ive slowed down is cuz commentary yters are getting the same amout or even more views than i do with less than half the hardwork. But now that ignacio has returned, MAYBE this could change.
Commentaries might be the reason why people are quitting or could be the problem but it’s not really the whole reason why. It’s mostly because of the hives community it’s just way too toxic and people are just super rude and just unpleasant that’s why most people leave because of the hate. That’s one of the reasons why I left too. I wish people in the hive can be more nicer and fair

I totally agree with what you say. People that make edits or montages back then would of been noticed but now small montage ytbers gain no subs per montage/edit

There is still hope! Most of the small youtubers do better videos. We may not have the best pc's or the best editing, but at least we are doing better videos. Even if commentary's take over, in the future, It will change.

This issue about repetitiveness has been around longer than the last about year or so this content has taken over, just that now since it’s absolutely NO ONE that’s doing anything different and is considered a face of content creation it’s presence has increased.
Also everyone cares about their analytics too much, are we still wondering why those creators who “quit” as mentioned in the video had quit? They also become an issue because even they don’t have passion for the actual content they come out with when views get into the way. Haven’t seen someone genuinely happy about their work in ages.
The diversity has definitely been out the door, in which idk if its the communities fault or hive

I think he means commentary videos that don't that don't really have a point, as in ones that aren't really talking about anything, don't have a script, or are just terribly edited.

I believe in quality over quantity but it doesn’t really negatively affect the community. It just makes content stale. Also there are still some hive content other than commentaries like montages and edits which is what I mainly make but non-commentaries are still really hard to find and is bring drowned out by the algorithm. I dont think commentaries are totally bad. I could see it’s possible to balance it out instead of completely eliminating it.

Commentary videos by themselves are fine. Its when there isn't any other non-commentary content to watch and the only thing you can watch from Hive content is commentaries is when it becomes a problem.

honestly, UA-camrs like Defectt, Avery Doors, Lil Tub Bubble, Nibbles, and FireUltra, also need some support at least for the content they make. Yeah, they do a LOT of commentaries, but we need to support them as MUCH as we need to support Novus, LilMac, and McWMike for their loss. Those 3 make really well-edited and high-quality videos that they just disappeared, and as for the other commentary UA-camrs, they also need some support because they also made these videos for the fans! People have been learning strats and other stuff thanks to the commentary youtubers, and dont get me wrong, the stories they say are sometimes really interesting to hear. Thanks to all of these youtubers, they wouldnt have made the Hive.. THE HIVE!

Honestly commentary videos aren't bad, but they do get very stale and repetitive eventually. It is hard to enjoy them when they are spammed everywhere, and no one puts any effort into them. We just need a little bit more unique content then I feel it would balance it out. Then maybe watching those commentaries every once and a while might actually be enjoyable. 😅

i’d agree, with all due respect hive content is now primarily just squeezing out every single seed of content there is. The only problem about this is when people do quality > quantity, it severely impacts their channel as they can’t be consistent. So i guess to commentary creators, its basically a cheat code
Id also like to mention another influence could have potentially been kaysu. As from what i seen back when he uploaded, he gained so much subscribers in a shot spac of time before quitting.

The problem is not with the hive nor the content creators. The decline started when Minecraft bedrock just started sucking. The input lag and the other issues. Many players quit. The lack of malleability in Minecraft makes it more sucking. I cannot create better content on the hive other than repetitive montages and commentaries due to the lack of replay mod and shaders. Quantity over quality is often better because U learn but in this case. Hive is bigger than cube craft now but quality now is just bad and content is not really fun

Good video oficey. I personally think the YTers with commentaries are going well, but thats not good enough. Im trying to be original, but I lack video ideas. So I stick to streaming until a video shows up in my brain. Other YTers like dynams, are doing really well with originality, which caps Hive content. I want to make videos no one has seen before. Commentaries, yeah they all have different topics, kinda just feel like a minecraft school class tbh.
So for the rarity of those of you reading all of this, I want to put more work into OG content. Maybe even mixing things up. You will start to see new things from me. So I can help end this issue that Hive content is on its downtrend.

The type of "commentary" videos you talk about, basically mean that your doing commentary videos, but I like commentary's I get to know the person way more which I can sub to them, (your content is good tho)

There is no problem with commentry videos, just trying to clarify that here. Anyone can do whatever content they want, and ENJOY whatever content they like.
