      If you read your refrigerator manual, you should see a clearances section. On the face frame, I usually like to leave 1/2” clearance on each side, but do to the overlapping nature of the face frame to plywood, you have about 1-1/4” clearance of the inside plywood to refrigerator. On the top side, I can be the same, but I I usually prefer to have more around that 1” clearance on the face frame, and always keeping in mind that their are various refrigerators that can be around 68” to 71” tall, so I usually make my cabinets with a 72” opening in case someone wants to replace the refrigerator. I would want anyone to have to buy a specific refrigerator that they didn’t want just because of the opening height.

      I did the entire cabinet install by myself. I used a couple furniture dollies to wheel the cabinet into the clients house, and then tipped it up into place. @@U2BER2012 In the video, I had a back nailer piece of wood that got screwed to the back wall. The refrigerator cabinet was in a corner, so one side was screwed to the wall framing, and the right side of the refrigerator cabinet was up against the cooktop area cabinets, so those got joined together.
      If you need to secure the refrigerator cabinet to the floor, I would suggest adding a nailer block on the cabinet at floor level, that goes between the face frame and back nailer. You can either use nails or screws. Predrill or use self-drilling. If it’s concrete, predrill the wood nailer, and drill a couple inches into the concrete, install a plastic wall anchor, and then add a screw. Hope this helps give you some ideas or a plan.

      I do not have a video of the installation of the refrigerator cabinet. Incredibly helpful video. Can't wait to make one of these for my home. How wide is the opening for the fridge? Is there a standard size opening or does it depend on what fridge you have?

    • @craftsmanconnection
      @craftsmanconnection  Рік тому +2

      A “standard” fridge is 36” wide, but the heights can vary around 70-1/2” to 72”. One of my clients has a 68” fridge. So it depends on the fridge you have, but better to plan on a cabinet design that has more space, in case you have to replace the fridge. You can achieve this by either making the opening the tallest fridge of all the available fridges, or you can have the upper cabinet with a big overlapping face frame that you can cut away later.
      Since I typically prefer to build cabinets with a 2” face frame, my minimum cabinet width is 40” wide (2” + 36” + 2”). Depending on the fridges ventilation requirements will depend on how much extra space you need. Some fridges have space requirements, and some fridges (refrigerators) such as built in refrigerators have no space requirements on the face frame because the compressor is up top, and has a grill to breathe. Look into the specific model you have for some guidance.
      Air space / air movement / less heat build up, helps increase the life span on the refrigerator. For example, my refrigerator is 20 years old this year and is not built in, and I’ve never had any repairs done to it.

    At 12:31 you said “1/2 inch exactly as planned”. What is the 1/2” for? Is that for a space between the side panel and the wall? Is the is a necessary factor that I should incorporate into my plan?

    • @craftsmanconnection
      @craftsmanconnection  10 місяців тому

      Yes, I planned on a 1/2” overhang of the face frame, since often times from the corner of the room wall to the face frame can have an angle that is not 90 degrees, and so this half inch overhang would give me the extra wood needed to not only deal with that angle of maybe 1/4” off, but also allow me some extra, like a 1/4” to deal with that wall area out by the face frame of some framer and Sheetrock guys didn’t make the wall plumb. Better to give yourself a little extra, instead of having to rely on a flat trim to hide a gap.

    • @craftsmanconnection
      @craftsmanconnection  10 місяців тому

      Your plan will depend on what is next to your refrigerator, and other risks/variables, and how well you can measure. I’d rather have a little extra, if I have any doubts. When I measured the job, the existing cabinets were still in. And when I have had a question, I’m not always easily able to go to the job site that was 1 hour away. When your planning your cabinet, think about other factors like the refrigerator door and possible handle clearances to other objects like walls, other cabinets, etc.

    • @craftsmanconnection
      @craftsmanconnection  2 роки тому +2

      The price of the doors varies on the type of the door, size, and materials. For a typical paint grade lower cabinet door that might be around 18” wide, and 25” tall, than you’ll pay about $50 for a shaker style door, and around $75-$85 for a raised panel door in North Texas. Some companies charge tax, and some don’t…🤷🏼‍♂️. I have ordered doors from a couple different larger cabinet shop companies around town. Who they are may not matter, depending on what city/state you live in. Call a local shop and ask lots of questions, like, what they pricing is for paint grade lower doors and upper doors? What is the material? MDF panel, maple plywood panel, oak panel? What is the door frame made of? Is this flat shaker panel or raised panel? Stain grade materials or paint grade materials? Lots of variables, and the best way to price a job is to get a detailed bid before you order. Don’t let you being in a hurry surprise you.

      Can you rent the KREG tools? I haven’t heard of anywhere that is possible. Where can you do that?
      Cabinets aren’t cheap. Some of the cheapest, but higher quality paint grade cabinets that I build are around $1,000-$1200 depending on door and drawer quantities. Materials can be around $150 and up per cabinet depending on the size and features. Some cabinets require more plywood, and what used to be $65-80 per sheet, is now $95-$110 per sheet since 2020.
      Tools for cabinet building isn’t meant to be for just 1 cabinet. If you have a few, you can save money, and invest your time, learn a skill, and maybe sell your skills for $50-$100 per hour.

      @@TheMyshine09 If you can see yourself taking on building a second or more cabinet in your future, or just don’t trust someone will do it precisely the way you want the cabinet built, then I’d spend the money to do it yourself. Do you have space for the tools in your garage?
      The table saw can be anywhere from a cheaper saw to start out with like I did with a smaller table top sort of model available at most home improvement stores for $300-$600, or you can go bigger to a Delta Contractor saw that has it’s own stand, mine was $599 around 2008, as seen in my cabinet videos, which I’m happy I purchased cause I have built many cabinets since.
      A compound miter saw can be around $299-$599. Great for cutting face frame parts on the front of the cabinet and other areas of the cabinet, base boards, etc.
      Tools are pretty invaluable, and you can’t always see now what you will end up appreciating that you have later.

    how wide must the cabinet be to safely install and ventilate the refrigerator?

    • @craftsmanconnection
      @craftsmanconnection  2 роки тому +1

      Geoffrey, the real answer to that clearance always comes down to the info on the manufacturers specification page for your make and model of refrigerator. Some refrigerators are designed to maybe have space around the refrigerator box, but in the case of a built in fridge, there would be no space around the refrigerator to the cabinet, as the compressor is typically at the top and well ventilated.
      When I’m building a cabinet for a normal 36” wide fridge/freezer, I prefer to leave a 1/2” air gap on the left and right side, and maybe 1-2” at the top. I’m always considering the clients existing fridge and the possibility of other models on the market in case the client later on selects a new model some years later, and it might be taller. You can see these differences easily on the showroom floor of your home improvement center. If you are in the United States, than Home Depot of Lowe’s is the typical place.

      Erin, I order them from 1 of 2 local cabinet shops. It depends on what I need for a profile, as they don’t all offer the same edges for the inside and outside edges, panel edge, etc. The price and speed of turn around time can vary too. For doors and drawers, it could be 1-1/2-2 weeks wait from 1 place and if it’s a simple shaker style door and super low quantity, another shop will get it to me in a couple days to a week.

    How did you stand it up with an 8' ceiling height?

    • @craftsmanconnection
      @craftsmanconnection  2 роки тому +1

      The house that this cabinet was for had a 10 foot ceiling height, so that was not an issue. If you have an 8 foot ceiling than you will need to use Pythagorean Therum to determine the maximum height of cabinet that you can build and then hide the gap at the top with crown molding. Take the depth of you cabinet that you want to build like 25-1/2” deep or 30” deep (Side A), and then play with the height of the cabinet on paper (Side B), and figure out the diagonal (Side C) which will be your maximum ceiling height or less for clearance. So when you are tilting it in place, you don’t scrape your ceiling.
      I had a job where I built a vanity off-site, and then built the tall linen cabinet literally in the clients bathroom for 2 reasons. The 25-1/2” deep linen cabinet was wider than the 24” wide bathroom door clearance dimension, and the cabinet was going to be on top of a toe-kick box that was separate from the cabinet. I just cleared the ceiling by maybe 1/4” using the math technique I described.
      Or you can find another way to be creative like I had to do at another house, and add more plywood to the bottom of the cabinet box without the face frame, after the cabinet was put in the refrigerator space, then put on the face frame, Bondo, sand it, and paint it. I’d share photos of that job with you if I could. What you can get away with all depends on materials you are working with, what you can hide with adjacent walls and cabinets, finishing techniques and skills, personal expectations of your work, etc.
      In mathematics, the Pythagorean theorem, or Pythagoras' theorem, is a fundamental relation in Euclidean geometry among the three sides of a right triangle. It states that the area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on the other two sides. This theorem can be written as an equation relating the lengths of the legs a, b and the hypotenuse c, often called the Pythagorean equation. Remember the A squared + B squared = C squared?

    • @craftsmanconnection
      @craftsmanconnection  2 роки тому +1

      A 3rd option I have done before was to build the refrigerator cabinet plywood box upper part with 1 plywood side of the side panel, and tilt it up from the side view, and then attach the other side panel. Then attach the face frame to the plywood cabinet box and 2 plywood side panels. You just need to draw out your plan to account for all of the dimensions of the plywood side, smaller upper cabinet portion, and then the other side panel. Depending on your plywood thicknesses, you may need to add a hidden spacer between the side panels and the cabinet box above the refrigerator. This will require a little more plywood 1/2 sheet to 1 sheet extra, depending on the depth of your refrigerator box.
      Depending on your job site situation, will determine which method you will need to do, to get the results you need to get. Can it all be done in 1 piece ahead of time, or does it need to be more modular, like some IKEA design plan?
