This is one of my favorite indie games of all time. It’s such a joy watching people play it… it brings back the joy of playing it myself 😂
I think this is a classic, as far as cartoon-style games go.

@@carronline1 Honestly, while this game shines brightest when you can appreciate the cultural context of the jokes... it's just got _such_ good comedic timing that you don't even need it, which is great.

There's a bit of dialogue (few playthroughs manage to reach it) which explains that he's married to Megg of Mother Megg's Buttery Goods. She thinks he's going senile because he keeps talking about a little yellow man coming down his chimney...

  • @Rubberman202
    @Rubberman202 Місяць тому +61

Just wanted to let you know several things about this game, in case you ever happen to replay it:
1.) You can help the guy trying to open his store shutter at the beginning by repeated slapping the shutter. This actually kicks off a small "side quest" (if you can call it that), where you come back to him and slap down what he's selling. Won't spoil what any of that is, it's worth seeing on your own.
2.) Characters tend to get new dialogue after every major event or if you revisit an area, so it pays to go see what everyone's up to again. It also pays to slap people repeated, as you noticed characters tend to have more dialogue when you slap them more than once. Most characters just have two lines, but in my experience, it pays to be thorough and just slap everything a whole bunch! In particular I recommend slapping the "WOW" sign when you first visit Bish's stall.
3.) For some reason, when I played the game, the box labeled "ashes (dead wife)" said something different, along the lines of "strands of hair 'too noticeable' to put in pies" or something like that. Maybe it's random? Or perhaps they changed it via an update. Same goes for crashing in on Herbert the Gardener a second time, when I played it he seemed to be talking to the guy barbecuing bread, but here he's like "hang on, this isn't even plugged in", which I honestly think it's funnier.
4.) Not something related to replaying, but the song the rats were singing was an old folksong called "On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at". This song actually plays throughout the game, including in the waiting room at City Hall, in the home of Roy (the poor guy who keeps cleaning up after you go down his chimney), in that cheese church, and during the credits.
5.) The asbestos guy didn't get ill from the asbestos, he got third degree burns from the oil spewing out of the fountain after Jasper fixed Maggie's fryer. He even says "I'll tell you what, asbestos never gave anyone third degree burns!" if you slap him in that state. The same thing happened to the guy who kept kicking Ronny's bike.
6.) 1:45:44 OK, not sure why the screen went black, a cutscene was supposed to play where Jasper sucked out back out with a plunger, and the other construction workers were the ones laughing at him requesting you to get "spirit level bubbles". Must have been a bug, hopefully that gets patched.
7.) Aww man, it looks like you didn't notice Bish's reaction to when you smacked a certain "fish tail" at 2:06:03. Next time you play this game, try whacking it repeatedly... Go ahead, see what happens. :)
8.) You missed it before going to the pub, but while in the market, Roger had a heart-to-heart talk with Big Ron over his large head that's actually really heartwarming. It makes him joking about his head at the pub all the sweeter (and Herbert's comment all the funnier)!
9.) One final thing: there's actually an alternate ending if you actually wait to see the mayor at the beginning. It actually only takes 15 minutes if you want to give it a try.
Anyway, really funny game, this is! (Reggie's wife could learn a thing or two!)

The box at Big Ron's says different thing depending on your subtitle language (Dialect vs. English).
The toast guy phone gag plays only if you slap him every time you pass through the area.

It is entirely random from playthrough to playthrough to keep you playing, like the poster in the area under Bish’s will say different warnings about liminal spaces.

I'm still yet to find someone who reacted to the Fridge Stoat gag on 16:17, he sits on the box labeled "Gloria's Whole Wheat" (Glory Hole) and makes a joke about being frigid. Imagine how many other little gags go unnoticed.

@@calyx8808 well it is a game of british humour and cheeky subtle (sometimes not so subtle) innuendo. Like the gag where a guy is sticking his sausage through a hole in the fence offering it to you (another gloryhole sexual reference).
Stoat is a slang term, which means "aimlessly wandering", he's an actual stoat and states he's a Fridge Stoat, he sits in a box of Gloria's Whole Wheat (gloryhole) implying he is searching for spontaneous sexual adventures with strangers through said hole. He remarks that he's awfully frigid (not feeling much pleasure from the act) which also doubles as saying its cold in there, but then realizes he made himself sound like a chump and downplays it saying he's actually quite a stud and blames the temperature in the fridge for that instead.
