    Finally a tutorial on how to properly use AO! Thank you. You method of teaching resonates well with me. Will you do a tutorial on channel boolean?

    You have such skill in presenting a well-spoken series of clear and logical steps without unhelpful tangential details. Very impressive. How about using these 3D tools to add occlusion-like shadows to 2D images??? That is, to use shadow "enhancements" to a 2D image to add more realism or for a more dramatic effect. A kind of "re-lighting" for 2D with the realism that ambient occlusion gives. Portraits mainly. Yeah, I know. Almost impossible without depth information. But I am sure you have some ideas!!! Thanks again for wonderful tutorials. Mike

      Interesting idea. Well for the tool you need camera, Z depth and Normal map.
      Camera could come from a 2d tracker, in some cases you can try to fake a Z depth with some clever manual mask and paint, perhaps even use of luminance, but normal map?.... Best I can think of is perhaps projecting into 3D and trying with some displacements. But doesn't sound straightforward...

    Please can you do a tutorial with the alembic mesh.
    Thank you

    A Truly well thought and well explained tutorial. I would love a tutorial on creative ways of manipulating geometries not just bending or displacing them or at least a more direct way of warping the geometry.

    • @VFXstudy
      @VFXstudy  4 роки тому

      Bend and displace are the two main options I can think of though. What is it you would like to achieve in 3d?

    • @jordiyoyijorge
      @jordiyoyijorge 4 роки тому

      @@VFXstudy I would love to have the option of editing and removing geometry and direct warp in 3d. I am aware that you can use a warp on a gradient to somewhat change the geometry but that method seems overcomplicated and not intuitive and I see no way of removing geometry but only make it invisible with UVmap.

    • @VFXstudy
      @VFXstudy  4 роки тому

      @@jordiyoyijorge like some very basic modeling and sculpting tools... would be cool. Not sure how hard it would be to create somethingin that direction. Do you know if there is anything related in Reactor?

    • @jordiyoyijorge
      @jordiyoyijorge 4 роки тому

      @@VFXstudy I would love to have a more direct control of the geometry: edit, erase or warp it. I know there´s an indirect warp using a grid on a gradient to feed a displace 3d but having more precise control would be very useful.

    • @jordiyoyijorge
      @jordiyoyijorge 4 роки тому

      @@VFXstudy Sorry for the double answer. It was an accident with my browser. I haven´t come across any tool in Reactor for editing geometry but I can´t test it right now because Reactor won´t install in my Davinci Resolve 16.2 due to a bug.

    Not to sound picky but your lamp is pulsing because of the frequency of the light in your studio setup. Try switching to 30 fps or 25 if your in Europe to lower this or play with your cameras shutter speed.

    • @VFXstudy
      @VFXstudy  4 роки тому

      Yeah I noticed in the recordings. And it only happened on some days.... Also the lamp turned out too bright. For now it'll just stay off :-)

      Thanks for the idea. I did a tutorial about VR tools in Fusion 9 some time ago. I think my first tutorial on the channel. Besides VR, I've seen a use to create custom materials with it. I think they showed that in the BMD training series. Maybe more to explore for me as well...

    Thank you very much for the time man. I would love to see a technique to use Open GL render and obtain soft shadows.

    • @VFXstudy
      @VFXstudy  4 роки тому +1

      Hmm. Ok try the shadow settings in the spotlight tool. Should work with OpenGL and Software renderer. Maybe more to say... let me think about it...

      @@VFXstudy I am getting a lot of issues. I have a scene with a 3d object, behind it I have a background, the BG recive the shadows in openGL Render and Software Render, hard shadows in Open GL and soft shadows in Software render. Open GL won't support soft shadows, it states so in the manual. But there is a technique with which you can obtain a pass render with only the Open GL render shadows and blend it back with blur effect to soften it a bit. The other issue is that when I "fade out" lowering the alpha channel of the 3d object the 3d object fade away but the shadow still visible in the back ground. That is with both OpenGL and Software render. I hope I explained it well. Thank you!

    • @VFXstudy
      @VFXstudy  4 роки тому

      @@ELPLAK oh right. Yes, you are right. The soft shadows are only from the software renderer. Reg. Alpha channel, the software renderer should be able to do that. I remember that it worked for me with attached image planes with alpha etc.
      Have to do some experimenting regarding shadow pass. Maybe replace material to white and render this to get only shadows?

    • @ELPLAK
      @ELPLAK 4 роки тому

      @@VFXstudy It could work I need to try it. I am still working on the shadows and I found a solution. I wrote an expression on each imagePlane and also into Blim and Ward materials connecting "Transmittance" RGB values to the opacity channel in the diffuse tab. So, after many intents I got it to work writing the following expression into each RGB color channel: In the case of the imagePlane I wrote this: "-MtlStdInputs.Diffuse.Opacity+1", in the ward:and Blim "-Diffuse.Opacity+1". Basically when in the Transmittance RGB values are 1.0 it means that the light will pass the object without producing shadow. So the "-" at the beginning of the expression means to invert the value from the opacity on the Diffuse tab which is 0. So, when opacity in Difusse tab is 0 the RGB values on Transmittance tab need to be 1, which is the inverse. I hope I explained it well. Thank you for the time and patience.

    Great. A small query regarding chroma key. I am using Da Vinci Resolve 15. While chroma keyed layer is shrunken or reduced after chroma key it shrinks background layer as well. It's annoying especially in compositing. Any solution?

    • @VFXstudy
      @VFXstudy  5 років тому

      Hi Maulik, not sure I understand your point right. Do you mean specifically when using the tool named ChromaKeyer? Why would any keyer have an effect on the background? Normally you key out the forground and then merge it over a different background footage. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here...?
