I lost my wife back in February (2024), and this song expresses exactly how I feel. Heaven, if you're ready... I play a lot of Barry's music, but this one is hard to get through now.

I remember the first time that I heard this song. It was the summer of 1977. That piano, and lyrics moved me so much. It is how many years later, and it still moves me the same way.
My most favorite song since I was in High School in 1980. This haunted me at that time and I still love it to this day. Trisha sings it exactly with the same tone and feeling that I have always. I so love this and it gives me such wonderful memories. Next to Lay me Down is All the time.......

I agree. I enjoy Barry’s performance just as much as Trisha’s.
I forget what year it was, but he hadn't performed this song in concert in years. I had never heard it live. I listened to the song on the way to the concert, knowing he wouldn't be singing it that night. Part way through the performance he started playing the introduction and I nearly lost it. It's one of my favorite songs. After the song, he could've walked away and ended the concert, and I would have been happy.
She so solid as a vocalist....n Barry playing makes it easy to sing...

Trisha I can tell you that I have loved Barry for more years than you have been alive. I am now 76 and still love him more everyday. I remember when he played for Bette Midler. My husband has fed my addiction and spent a long time finding the CD with my love Nancy Wilson that Barry produced. Love you Barry.
Yep. She may have heard him singing and playing piano inutero. I think that's where my love of these older songs came from. I truly do. My kids were born loving all the old stiff. And even my old cartoons. There is so much we don't know.

It's all I can do to not well up with emotion at the way this song is being sung by Yearwood and the way it is being played by Manilow. It's just beautiful.
And the way Barry holds his arms out after it's done ... it's almost as if he's saying "Now THAT is how we do that." The great ones make it look easy.

This album Trying to get the Feeling had some really good tracks on it. But two of my favorite songs were ones that didn't get any air play. As sure as I'm standing here and Lay me down. I liked these more than some of his bigger hits.
