Wow why put a child in harms way like that? Im literally crying because this could have been prevented for the sake of the CHILD! 😢 Im done for today, this is heartbreaking!

Ahh yes! The lights are flashing, there are gates blocking the way, other cars aren't crossing, and a horn is blaring. This MUST mean it's safe to cross!
What kind of measures do the authorities take? In my country, the Netherlands, you can get a fine of 240 euros, about 290 dollars, for crossing a closed railroad crossing. But since some people are not impressed by that, an increase is being discussed. In neighbouring Belgium, you can get a fine of up to 4000 euros, about 4800 dollars! In the meantime, cameras are being installed at railroad crossing to detect people and cars crossing closed railroad crossings. Especially cyclists crossing closed crossings is a problem in our country!

Not only are people in such a hurry that they can't wait for a train, but they do this as well to semi-trucks and they just don't understand that whether you are hit by a train or a truck, the end result and amount of damage is still the same. Don't rush a train or a semi-truck because in the end, you will lose.

Rick, I live in rural Arkansas and we don't have gates or flashing lights either. A few months ago I was with my sister whom was driving. We looked both ways before crossing the tracks. After crossing, within 10 or 15 seconds, a train came. We were so fortunate to make it over the tracks. The train did not blow a horn nor whistle either.
What's the rush it's a Metra train it will gone in a minute. Now I might take a chance on a freight train but only if I'm by myself and it's not to close.
@@CrazyDash9 there are lots of quiet zones, but they always have large gates over the road. Safety goes out the window when stupid is driving.
I wouldn't play Russian roulette with any train, 75 mph or 1mph. Just look at the mess the idiot driver caused, injured and shook up people, damage to infrastructure, delays for everyone.
At this point, I have to say, without prejudice, that I have never visited USA or Canada, and have no idea how trains are used. @@2014moon it’s happened in my family as well. People are so freaking stupid
@@CrazyDash9 That’s crazy I’m sorry it happened theses people be so in a rush it’s redundant, it’s take less then two minutes for a metra train to come and drop off passengers then it’s gone. Why try to beat a metra train of all the trains, a slow freight train is different if it’s far far but a moving metra with the baby tho that’s the saddest I’ve heard in 2021 that’s worst then the shooting.
@@2014moon oh not by a train. Was referring to drivers ignoring just normal red lights.
@@CrazyDash9 Yeah I know I was still shocked over the whole situation that brought us here
I literally drove by this and waited to see if any survived. Guess not. Sad part the passengers had no ability to stop the fool behind the wheel cautionary tell folks. Just be patient
The thing about beating the train is that this driver has probably done this before and gotten away with it. I've seen people race across the track right before the barriers go down. So yes, it is probably possible to beat the train most of the time. Most of the time. But it's always the last time that matters the most.
Hell I saw somebody do it with a Westmont cop right behind them. Of course they got away it 'cuz the cop didn't wanna a chance following them thru the gates.
@@richardrice8076 hello
How are you doing
They beat the gates, not the train. Once the gates are down its just idiotic to try ot navigate through them.
@@TuneStunnaMusic Nobody said you had to be smart to get a driver's license.
Why would anyone be that stupid to beat a train across the tracks?
Rest assured, they won't do it again.
The commuter train doesn't always win, especially when the train is being pushed by the locomotive. Look up the 2005 Metrolink crash in Los Angeles (Glendale). Guy parks car on tracks and Metrolink train derails when it hits it. 11 die on the train, with 177 injured.
I haven't seen that style of running before, there must be compelling reasons for it.
God rest the poor souls who passed here.
Its not Always the car that dies
MY prayers go out to the family involved in this 😭situation all the way from australia .🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤
Driver drugged, runk or idiot? So.rry for the children. Quiet Zone crossing?
Who tries to beat a 80 mph train, she didn't see it.
If the train was going near 70,cant people wait literally 10-15 seconds for the train to pass.If not the train will always win.
Worst thing is it was only a Metra train, they take like less than a minute to pass, literally.
Wow why put a child in harms way like that? Im literally crying because this could have been prevented for the sake of the CHILD! 😢 Im done for today, this is heartbreaking!
I think it's a lot more than just harm's way.
You have about 20 seconds tops from the time those gates come down before the train hits the crossing at that speed. Had that driver waited they would have been there less than a minute from the looks of the train's length. What a shame.
trains vs cars all time--the trains are undefeated. they've never lost a single game of chicken. never play chicken w a train. awful story. totally avoidable.
I feel bad for Metra passengers, Metra engineer and Metra conductor.
Yeah, they wee all late getting to their destination because of this.
Ahh yes! The lights are flashing, there are gates blocking the way, other cars aren't crossing, and a horn is blaring. This MUST mean it's safe to cross!

The cab car derailed and I am a rail fan and I heard that the cab car weighs less the the locomotive
Wow just sad . It was a metra train which mean it was going to flow right pass not that long of a wait
Here in America it would be a violation of human rights, especially if your black. Then it woul also be racist.
My thoughts and prayers goes out to the family who lost the loved ones. When is people gonna realize when you see the red lights flashing. Stop. Don"t try to out run because the train always wins. They have the right away.
Open knuckle and no plow/cow catcher-------- an open knuckle and a vehicle is like a can opener on a jack knife as it opens a can of peaches.
There actually is a plow, but regulations required a much smaller one until recently
Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
How long does it take to cross a track in a car even if the train is moving? This was suicide
If the barriers are down, it takes a bit of time. The driver would have only had a short window to make it since the train was going 79 mph.
I am a locomotive engineer and it’s bizarre how people get around train tracks you see women in minivans with kids in the back racing up to the tracks it’s baffling and scary
I will never understand these accidents that can be prevented
PhoenixGirl, only cause that seems plausible is "stuck on stupid."
Wherever you gotta be, it really can't wait 3 mins? I used to have to be 7 mins late if I got stuck at this one annoying traffic light that's timed wrong. I didn't run it even when there was no one else there
It would have been under a minute
Couldn't wait 6 seconds for it to pass? Did you think you were too good to wait 6 seconds? Who won here?
Lol trains don't pass in 6 seconds 5 to 10 minutes is the norm.

Why you can't wait for two minutes for the train to pass so you will save your life and other.
More like 10 seconds
Oh well smartbutt. Car vs train, let me see who is going to win?!
Metra trains block the tracks for about 30 seconds. There is NOTHING that important on the other side.
It's a shame that people can't spare 5 or 10 seconds of their life to allow the train to pass. Not only are people in such a hurry that they can't wait for a train, but they do this as well to semi-trucks and they just don't understand that whether you are hit by a train or a truck, the end result and amount of damage is still the same. Don't rush a train or a semi-truck because in the end, you will lose.
I tell all new drivers YOU CAN NOT BEAT THE TRAIN. The train will always win. Peace, may their souls rest peacefully.

So here in rural Indiana most tracks don't have gates. Sometimes the lights don't flash. Try that at sixty!

@@CrazyDash9 there are lots of quiet zones, but they always have large gates over the road. Safety goes out the window when stupid is driving.

Pretty stupid to get hit by a train...
Another example of "it's all about MY needs! Barriers are for other people."
So this gets on my nerves, everyone says why do trains go so slow, it's actually because of these idiots at crossings, BAD INFLUENCE!
What I will say, is that we in England, in the past, have imported many US engineering and operating features and technology. I have an idea that EP (Electro-Pneumatic) brakes came from US. And Westinghouse is well-known over here.
Guess the driver was in a hurry and those Metro trains go fast and aren't that long. Instead he decided to try and beat it. Well he won't have to worry about trains holing him up any more. Sometimes the barriers don't come down but before crossing any RR tracks I always look both ways to be safe.

Tumulty started her reporting career in Ireland, where she was born and raised.
It's Irish.
Years ago, Metra (then C&NW) had a commuter PR program that had a slogan to encourage people to stop trying to beat trains through the crossings, saying, "IF IT'S A TIE, YOU LOSE!". Couldn't be more true than in what we see here.
