  • "Blaumilch Canal" is the Hebrew name of a satirical movie written and directed by one of Israel’s most renowned writers and directors, Ephraim Kishon. The English name for the movie is "The Big Dig."
The hero of the movie is a man named Blaumilch, a lunatic with a compulsion for digging. He escapes from an insane asylum, steals a jackhammer, and begins digging up Allenby Street, which happens to be the most congested street in Tel Aviv.
The police and city officials assume that he is acting legitimately and, in fact, support and assist him as much as they can, making the lives of the neighbors a living hell.
At a certain point, when it becomes too late for the city to admit its mistake, the mayor pushes the plan even further. He connects Allenby Street to the Mediterranean Sea, creating a canal, and proudly declares that he has turned Tel Aviv into the "Venice of the Middle East."
The state of Israel is digging itself into a hole created by a series of Zionist governments that refuse to see that their actions are harming both Jewish and Palestinian people. Instead of admitting their mistakes in creating a trajectory of permanent violence based on the politicization of religion, they tout Israel’s military power.
