My theory about Mark's comics is that because superheroes exist for real in this universe, the comics turned more to other genres. It's like in "Watchmen", where the most popular comics are about pirates. Also, the one about the underwater welder is a real comic by Jeff Lemire, "The Underwater Welder"
In the comics, Mark's favorite comic is Science Dog, but maybe they didn't get the separate license for that character, so they had to change it? Or maybe they just thought Seance Dog was funnier.
Invincible the comic, started out as a satire of common superhero tropes (Omni Man being pretty much Superman, but with a twist), that eventually evolved into it's own thing. Robert Kirkman, who wrote the comic, is also one of the lead writers on the show. So yes, it closely follows the comics. This is basically Kirkman redoing his work now that he is a better, more mature storyteller.
Fun Fact: When Omni-Man is giving the public eulogy and describing the battles he's fought, he literally describes the Guardians of the Globe. He publicly confessed and no one noticed.
I think the Demon Detective might look like Hellboy, but the character is closer to Constantine. (If you haven't watched it yet, I'd strongly recommend checking out the Keanu Reeves movie. It might not be fully canon, but it's well-done, under-appreciated, and, y'know, Keanu Reeves.) The plot is basically that he briefly died and went to hell, and he's been working as a demon-hunter to try to buy his way into heaven.
My head canon is that, when Mark asks Cecil what state Mt. Rushmore is in, and Cecil replies with "What do they teach you kids in school these days?" He was actually leaving to look it up for himself.

The Guardians of the Globe were definitely parodies of the Justice League. Mainly because Kirkman was killing them off in the first chapter and it allowed to have people to understand and get attached to these characters and infer their histories based on the original characters. Most of the characters in Invincible are original, though they do play on superhero tropes quite a bit.

im sure this has been said before in this comment section but the invincible comics are a satire in the opposite direction of the boys. the boys is written by someone who doesnt like superhero comics so that satire is a lot more mean-spirited and cynical, but robert kirkman absolutely loves them so invincible is much more of a love letter containing a lot of different elements and tropes from superhero media! absolutely loving this series so far as a reader of the comics and i hope y'all enjoy season 3 when it comes out!
The entire concept is based on riffs within the comic genre. All the characters, the motifs, the storylines. They'll all run within similar bounds of other comic properties. Sometime commenting on them and the genre itself. Sometimes pointing fun at them. Sometimes reflecting on the validity of the tropes. Add in some political/social commentaries mixed with the ultra violence and you get the breadth of the IP.
Love how Monstergirl lasts like less than a second with Omniman. He's a Viltrumite, everyone else are just people, no matter how strong, just weak people. Strong against other people, not against aliens.
Yes, the Founding Fathers owned slaves, but they also laid the ideological groundwork for the Emancipation of the Enslaved. "All men are created equal." It was this idea that they put forth which gained the ideological foothold within the collective human psyche; it was this idea that Frederick Douglass exploited and called for to be acknowledged and honored. The slaveowners of that time were rich and powerful, and they would have done anything in their power to protect their empires, just as some do in this day and age. Thomas Jefferson originally had Abolishment written into the documents, but they later removed them because they knew that in order for the Union to succeed against the British, they had to stand united as one. If they had kept the Abolishment, a lot of the Colonies would not have supported the cause for independence. History is not as black-and-white as many would love for it to be, and is extremely complex and complicated. With the ideas that they put forth, they established a written standard to which we were later held - a real lesson in responsibility and accountability for the things that we say. "You said it... Now live it. Walk the walk of your talk." I'm grateful for the Founding Fathers... Even though they themselves couldn't live by the Truth of their own ideas, they at least put those ideas out there for them to be realized later on down the road. I'm also grateful for slavery, in a strange kind of way; there are a lot of Black people in my life that I know and love, and that wouldn't be possible if they weren't here with me. Yes, the past sucks, but we live in the Now, and we cannot go back. All we can do is move forward, together, as One. Those who aren't with us should stay out of our Way, because we are United, and they, in their hatred and division, are not. The divided cannot stand against the United. "E pluribus unum." Out of many... ONE. We will not make America better by abandoning it's beautiful Foundations; we will make it better by realizing them more Truly. Hold this nation accountable for the words it speaks, and call it hypocritical when it cannot walk the walk. Our voices matter, and we will be heard. Speak Truth to Power. "The Truth is like a lion; you don't have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself." - St. Augustine The Power of Truth cannot be stopped by humanity, but humanity can most definitely be stopped by the Power of Truth... Let us hope that it doesn't come to that, unless it must in the name of Truth. "Truth does not pay homage to any society, ancient or modern. Society has to pay homage to Truth or die." - Swami Vivekananda "Truth and reason are eternal. They have prevailed. And they will eternally prevail; however, in times and places they may be overborne for a while by violence, military, civil, or ecclesiastical." - Thomas Jefferson "Truth is proper and beautiful in all times and in all places." - Frederick Douglass There is an Operating System behind Reality. It is Logic. It is Truth and Reason, and it is ALIVE. We are a part of that OS, and we have the Life that it is within us; otherwise, we would not be alive. We exist relative to the Truth and Reason of things in which we exist, and we cannot exist outside of this Law of Laws. Reality is governed by a Supreme Order of Things, and we are subjected to this Order whether we like it or not; entire human civilizations rise and fall in accordance with their relationships with Truth and Reason... The unreasonable fall. It is time for America to realign itself with the Truth of the bloodied ground upon which it stands, or it shall fall, like any other. Think. Talk. Reason together... or FALL. "One nation, under [Truth and Reason], indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All." That is the statement, now Live it. Love each other, and be Reasonable with each other. Otherwise, there is no hope for you. "I know that when the talking stops, the fighting starts." - Ice Cube
What i wonder about shows like this that take place in our universe but with superheroes, what heroes and villains were alive while lincoln and shakespeare were out and about, and even after the current superheroes, i want to know what people makes up the history books
Super hero comics borrow from each other a lot. Especially ones like these that are made to subvert expectations. So that’s why there are so many similarities between these characters and others.
Over a thousand years ago Omni man was born on the planet Viltrum, but at that exact same time, on Earth, it was the month of August. Thus his entire personality can be summed up with characteristics associated with the constellation of Leo. Makes perfect sense.
this show is its own comic universe. its not part of a big connected world like marvel or dc. this show is adapted from a single comic called invincible. just like how the boys is only based on the comic "the boys". some characters have had short term spin off comics. but invincible is just a singular comic with a singular story

I think the clone dudes are the coolest idea for a character in the whole show, they were just a human, but they have made so many clones that now they are blue and they enhanced themselves while they were at it so the original has obviously been dead for a long time, but they also make sure that the process of cloning makes them forget which one actually pulled the switch, because it causes problems if they know which one is the clone. Also, dark wing isn't based on batman, it's based on a Donald duck cartoon lol, and there are multiple stories that follow these tropes, like the demon trying to help people is basically Constantine (kinda), hellboy (kinda), Alucard in castlevania (kinda), Alucard in hellsing (more so since he actually is demonic instead of just a vampire, which are created by demons), ghost rider (kinda), spawn (kinda), multiple characters in charmed and or supernatural... the list goes on forever.
All that about the Mauler Twins is just straight made up. None of that is in the comics. And Darkwing duck is a duck cartoon. But Invincibles Darkwing is a Batman reference.

19:46 I'm sorry, did you just quote "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone" from that giant chess scene? That's honestly kind of hilarious.
Yes thank you!
it's actually from the first movie 🤓☝️
@ Ah, my mistake. Been a while since I've watched them.
"Hellboy Sucks" those are fighting words lol
That is so weird I just started watching your invincible vids never seen you before then this pops up 😂
19:04 missed opportunity to edit in the Title card
“He’s going to sacrifice himseeelf!”
This comic is a mix of dc with a little of marvel but tuned up for adults mark grayson is a twist of dick Grayson the first robin, also In dc there’s a demon called etrigan and his human name is Jason blood
Speaking of the soundtrack bumpin, I love how from this episode on The Mauler Twins official theme music is all by Run The Jewels 👉🤛
Also @maple, my father also had an iguana named Iggy, except he was taxidermy. Pretty sure he came from a thrift store.
The dynamic duo. I would watch anything y'all react too. Y'all actually think about shit and 😂😂😂😂
@9:31 -- actually he's called "science dog" and you CAN totally read about him as a three-time backup feature in invincible comics.
That's Azula's voice actor as Monster Girl!
im sure this has been said before in this comment section but the invincible comics are a satire in the opposite direction of the boys. the boys is written by someone who doesnt like superhero comics so that satire is a lot more mean-spirited and cynical, but robert kirkman absolutely loves them so invincible is much more of a love letter containing a lot of different elements and tropes from superhero media! absolutely loving this series so far as a reader of the comics and i hope y'all enjoy season 3 when it comes out!
When did monster girl ever go up against him tf
@@alexarias5717I think they meant Invincible, not Omniman.

What are you doing wasting your time with Amber when Eve is right there!!!!
THINK!! MARK!! THINK!!
Just remember, son, you're a different species than everyone on this planet, and your home planet. Come to think of it Mark is kind of a freak.
Yes, the Founding Fathers owned slaves, but they also laid the ideological groundwork for the Emancipation of the Enslaved.
"All men are created equal."
It was this idea that they put forth which gained the ideological foothold within the collective human psyche; it was this idea that Frederick Douglass exploited and called for to be acknowledged and honored.
Walk the walk of your talk."
I'm grateful for the Founding Fathers...
"E pluribus unum."
Out of many...
Let it loose; it will defend itself."
- St. Augustine
The Power of Truth cannot be stopped by humanity, but humanity can most definitely be stopped by the Power of Truth...
Let us hope that it doesn't come to that, unless it must in the name of Truth.
"Truth does not pay homage to any society, ancient or modern. Society has to pay homage to Truth or die."
- Swami Vivekananda
"Truth and reason are eternal. They have prevailed. And they will eternally prevail; however, in times and places they may be overborne for a while by violence, military, civil, or ecclesiastical."
- Thomas Jefferson
"Truth is proper and beautiful in all times and in all places."
- Frederick Douglass
There is an Operating System behind Reality.
Think.
Talk.
Reason together...
or FALL.
"One nation, under [Truth and Reason], indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All."
That is the statement, now Live it.
Love each other, and be Reasonable with each other.
Otherwise, there is no hope for you.
"I know that when the talking stops, the fighting starts."
- Ice Cube
Just watched 2x1 and I'm interested to see where they're going with this
What i wonder about shows like this that take place in our universe but with superheroes, what heroes and villains were alive while lincoln and shakespeare were out and about, and even after the current superheroes, i want to know what people makes up the history books
Hey now hellboy did not suck! Go watch it 😆
Agreed. The Guillermo del Toro Hellboy movies are great!
Episode 4 will rock yo sheets! 😂
Makes perfect sense.
dont say the years
As a Leo man, I agree. We be low-key bi-polar-ish
@@stevendalloesingh I have nothing in common with you. Astrology has been laughed at since its inception.

You should totally put 'Brightburn' on your watch list! 🙂
this show is its own comic universe. its not part of a big connected world like marvel or dc. this show is adapted from a single comic called invincible. just like how the boys is only based on the comic "the boys". some characters have had short term spin off comics. but invincible is just a singular comic with a singular story
I like how Doc Seismic is like a Liberal villain. Badguys come from all political avenues, not just fascists, fake-Christians, and literal Christians. And yo, picking up on Omniman's speech patters before everybody else I've seen reactions to this of just makes me feel stupid (proud of you, mad at myself).
The save soul thing is more tied to Constatine and the outfit
As a Leo, I love your Leo comments
I mean if I were Rex Duplicate would be too hard to pass up on. How he even went for Eve is beyond me.
You're watching Invincible, you've watched The Boys... Waiting for Brightburn.,
Mt Rushmore! In my back yard.
22:04 Arianna you are indeed incorrect and now yall have to watch Hellboy 1&2 lol.
Y'all really should though - they're great.
The guy i think rex the dude in yellow and red sounds like jay from big mouth
i love the caricature out of touch liberal in this episode 😂
we tend to forget some people are crazy and lack nuance, just because we have the same political leanings as them
Derek!
Watch The Good Place, by the way. That show's a necessity.
Dr. Seismic is the greatest villain in the series
lol he's definitely my favorite so far
Monster Girl is Azula!
BRUH, I will not take that Leo slander
I’m a Leo too 😭
Not Arianna saying Hellboy sucks 😲
Chicken pot pie slaps everytime
I don’t need prime when I can watch y’all

"Hes a leo" WOW RUDE XD on this day, of my leo birthday XD haha
As a Cancer man, I feel attacked but i'm just glad i'm not a Leo.
Birth Sign racism is crazyyyyyyy 💀
Most valley girl shit ever lmao
I'm about to kill myself because I was born in August. Really sucks that astrology is totally real and not just something cornstars use to cope with their lives.
The more I see this episode, the more I question if Eve went in for a kiss after the Rushmore ordeal.
I go back and forth.
Dupli-Kate... the Ultimate GF!!!
whoa whoa whoa! Hellboy was a dope as movie. The 1st one anyway....
I think the sequel was pretty great as well.
Not the more recent reboot though, that was shit.
"He's a Leo"
*Sad Lion Noises* 😢😂
Sooo - is Iggy still with us? 🦎
No he was an old boy ❤️
After you ladies finish this awesome series you HAVE to watch The Boys for more superhero satire with top tier writing and wrapped up in brutality.
Ari already watched it I think
Doc sizemic did nothing wrong
I love you guys so much
I would pick Eve over Rex and Kate by powers alone.
Eve can fly and lasers and well more
Saying Abe Lincoln was a slaver is crazy lmao
It was bad enough that Rex cheated on eve with Kate; but with THREE Kate's!!! lol. I mean I can't REALLY be all that against him. Kate HERSELF made multiple copies and got freaky with Rex. Kinda makes one wonder if she's ever made copies "by herself." lol.
Hey! Whats wrong with cancer men?! Its our badass mustaches isnt it
OMGGGGG lol yes
Damn we Leo’s took a hit today. 😅
