I’m a little older skate dad than you but those ledges are for days I really feel like going in. My version of low impact are curbs, parking blocks and banks. I really have to be warmed up and in the zone to jump on ledges that are even a couple inches below the knees. I don’t even play with the skatepark ledges. Coming from the 90d east coast where wax was a skate crime those jawns just slide too good for my taste. I’m better when I have to muscle that grind or slide a little bit.
Same, man. I meetup with a couple of friends a few times a month here and there but plans often get cancelled and when we do skate it isn’t like the old days. More just being in the same skatepark for an hour or two. My homie in the video is a solid dude who lives about 2 hours away and is way too busy with life to ride a skateboard when he isn’t hanging out with me so he mainly just kicks it and likes to film. I see these crews of guys who meetup religiously every weekend at curb spots and shit and it looks so fun, hopefully down the line I’ll have something like that too.
Mike Rafter uploaded a bunch of old Sac videos on his website a while back and it’s so crazy seeing this place and a bunch of other local spots looking all pristine and new, the trees are hella small and the ledges are all perfect. Beibel had some dope clips here when he was like 14. When I was in highschool this was the “Nutter building” 😂

How you liken those thunders? I just got some cause they were so cheap due to all the Christmas sales but I've never skated them. Kinda trippen cause I've been on indys for 15 years. Personally have never had a problem with them.
I went from AF1’s that were really loose to thunders and I gotta say it’s been nothing but beneficial. I think I was handicapping myself with the higher/looser trucks. At least for how I skate.
If you really wanna get that thing going nice and buttery, get yourself a Rub Brick from Home Depot. Remove the wax first (you can use hot water) Rub the top, edge and front to smooth it out (this is actually much easier than you might think). Then dust it off nice an clean and lacquer it. Wax as needed. Skate.
Skaters today are rather spoiled. Skateparks everywhere with groomed ledges. All we had back in the 80s/90s was a bar of soap for wax and would spend hours if not days on a curb until it wound grid or slide right lol
Yeah I’ve noticed a lot of the new red curbs are basically just bare concrete with red stain. Sealer will get a curb/ledge going and then it’s up to the skaters to maintain it and keep it buttery
Meh, screw low impact. I’m 43 and I just started back up after 20 years so I can’t really go big yet and I don’t plan on skating anything bigger than a 7 stair but it only hurts if you fall wrong. Take some bjj. Among other things you learn to fall better. I am definitely reaping the rewards there. I fall, I roll, I ride some more.
One thing about skating public spots, at an older age…… people give you less crap. ….Like please, I want you to tell me something.
