Thank you for everyone’s comments of support - I really enjoyed making this video. Please be aware the it is a 1.5L engine with a battery. I don’t know where 1.6 came from, so I apologise for the confusion!
It's actually a three cylinder 1.5, effectively three quarters of the 2ltr 4 cylinder available in the Corolla and CHR hybrid. Enjoyed the review 👍
There’s a 1.6-litre 3-cylinder GR version with 261 horsepower, and a six speed manual transmission only.
@@DaveDVideoMaker GR hadn’t been released at the time of recording 😁
Okay then.
"it is a 1.5L engine with a battery"
Technically, it has 2 batteries. A small 12V for auxiliary components, and a 0,76 kWh 200V Lithium-Ion battery for the hybrid system. ;)
Oh, and it has 2 electric motor/generators, the small MG1 that acts as a starter for the petrol engine and spins it in B-mode (engine braking), and the large MG2 at the other end of the planetary gear between it and MG1 that helps spin the rubbery spinny-spins. :) Together they make up the e-CVT, that doesn't really shift in a traditional sense, like a normal automatic gearbox does. That's why you don't feel any shifting during acceleration.
Thank you so much for the review I’ve also seen some of your others and to be honest yours are a lot more comprehensive than other reviews lasting twice as long. I like the fact that even though you could be showing a higher spec car you always compare with other models. You look at the interior including the infotainment etc.. with enough detail, not just waffling on, and with the test drive you say what it is we want to hear, no blagging! I’ve looked at a lot of reviews while choosing my new car (which is going to be a Yaris design) you’ve certainly got one of the best review page. Thank you.
Thank you so much Kerry!!
Well done on the sponsor Tish 💗 you’re smashing it! Enjoy it and go with the flow xx
Thanks Dol, this time next year ✌🏼😜😜😜
Very detailed as usual. Quality spot on. More information than I’ll ever need on a Yaris ☺️
I just got our first car, this Yaris last week. Very happy with it, the review is spot on with the driving experience.
I am so pleased you are enjoying it!
I got mine (Excel trim, Oxide Bronce) last thursday, and I absolutely love it! :)
This one is my third Yaris though (1: 2007 1,3L manual 5-speed, 2: 2016 1,33L manual 6-speed). The e-CVT takes a bit of getting used to, I still find myself searching for a clutch and gear lever on occasion. :P
Excellent review as is the norm for you Tish. Look forward to the next one. Keep safe and well.
Darren Cottrell thank you Darren, had a very wet and grumpy filming day today.... so we will see how it turns out 😅
Always every review comes better than the preceding one.
Nice one, Tish.
I felt very relaxed this day..... I have good days and bad but I am glad they are coming across better 💫
Great review!! Please keep doing them, you’re so refreshing and great! :)
Thank you, that’s very kind. Doing my best to keep them up ☺️
6:26 oooo a spare wheel. That is a luxury. Hardly get one of these days...gr8 review Tish.
Amazing review, like your style, informative but not boring.
That’s the aim!! 😁😁😁
Nice video Tish, looking forward to driving one of these myself soon.
And I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you think!! 😁😁😁
thanks for the test. thanks that you shown the spare wheel in the trunk.
Best small car ever made
Great video. Answered all the questions i had. Looking for high mpg smaller car and this is in the shortlist.
It is very precise and simple comment. I like it!
Nothing is "coming out" of them storage spaces, the car simply does not accelerate so aggressively. It is a lovely car though, it was so quiet on start up, i didnt realise it had started and kept switching it off. after driving when you pull up, it gives you a nice summery of your driving habits. A lovely car, no regrets buying.
xeeshan jalani your right. Anyway if you brake the phone would go forward not backwards.
It's quiet because the petrol engine only starts when it is needed. Either to power the aircon or heating accesories, or to assist with acceleration. :)
I blame the salesperson that handed the car over to you for not instructing you properly on the matter!
decent review i can see the improvement as you gain experience. can't wait to see you racing Clarkson around the Nürburgring
Thank you very much, I’m definitely more confident presenting cars like this as I see myself as the target audience! Hahah hopefully one day 🤞🏼
Great review, thank's.
Thank you
Great review 👏
etyres thank you, that’s very kind 😁
Thank you! To share with us your thoughts about Toyota!
I test drove the car and it feels really planted to the road. The only Issue I find is with the spec, if you get the first edition then you must get the car in red and no other colour options are available, if you get the excel version then you get a light coloured interior. You should be able to choose. For me when you are spending over £20k+ on a car you should be able to choose your colours and interiors but they are fixed to which ever model you choose.
I did not know this! I’ll give you shout out in my next review then as the next one is highly customisable!! 😁
Auto Social UK I can’t wait, your content is Super!
The light colored lower-half interior is one of the main reasons why I chose the Excel model (H4 at the time in Denmark, now it has been renamed "Elegant" for some reason).
Well, that and the semi-leather seats. :)
Like your presentation and comprehensive review. I've heard you get a lot of road noise on the motorway. Would you agree ?
Nice review
Bought one.. hybrid version.. Great ride...
Glad you’re enjoying it!
Hello. Beautiful video tish xx
Hey, thanks!
Look at youuuuuu, going up in the worlddd😍😂😂😂😂❤️, your video made my dayyyy😂
Hahaha thank you very much!
Great video 👌
Thank you ☺️
Did anyone spot the error at 4:28?
Love ya videos, keep up the great work lovely.
Could you review the VW ID.3 please.
JLB is a lot nicer than JBL.
Was gonna say Brutal, but then it pulled it back. No Cool Seats though, so ❌ Ace Video though. Loving these. My new Saturday am routine! Tish, the. Saturday Kitchen! Boooom!
Hahah thanks Steve. Nope pretty standard seats on this one.... I’ll be interested to see what you think on next weeks video. Thanks for the continued support 😄
We've had our 2021 Design Yaris for about 4 months now. It's a great car in my opinion. I didn't even bother with a test drive. We are getting a fraction under 66 MPG with around town driving. There are a couple of niggles with the infotainment system. I had to change my phone to one with Android V.10. in order to get the navigation. Also make sure to connect with a data cable, as not all charging cables will work. I also can't get my phone to "pair". Other than that it's very good.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!
I like your style. Nice review
Thank you for watching 😊
@@AutoSocialUK Love your clothes and shoes! How do you get inspired?
1:27 love that transition
Really enjoying your review, confident fluid, informative. Well done!!
Nice review .
Thank you for watching Mike 😁
@@AutoSocialUK Could you please make a review of the Honda Jazz , Thankyou .
A good presentation. Interesting to have a look round the new one (I run one of the previous Yaris hybrids, from 2017). Around 6:29 it’s sensible that they’ve squeezed in a ‘space saver’ spare again; I actually used that on mine, and as the puncture was repairable (for £25), I didn’t need a new tyre at the time. A couple of my older cars had no spares at all. Around 10:30, they’ve evidently upgraded some of the gadgets, but on my existing one it is possible to adjust the “pre-crash warning timing” in 3 steps; maybe you still can, if you delve into the manual.
You can adjust the pre-crash warning in 3 steps on the new one as well. The setting is in one of the sub-menus under "Settings" in the dashboard info-display.
You can in this generation as well I believe it's the button for the adaptive cruise control one of them you press and in the book it says from default it's medium but you can set it between long and short my mam's car is 2023
I’m getting the new gr sport version in December. Can’t wait xx
Oh exciting! I’m thinking of trying one of those out!
@@AutoSocialUK it’s basically the same as a normal Yaris but suspension is lowered and tuned like the gr Yaris also looks incredible with the 18 inch wheels and silver grille It has the same seats as the gr but they are fabric instead of leather and alkantara the steering is more direct due to the tuned suspension it’s really fun to drive. Getting mine in galactic blue as didn’t like the black roof convo on other colours. Xxx. Keep up the amazing work you are fab xxx
Looks luverly too me
Great! Finally a woman's perspective! Thank you!
Do these not have battery problems, its all over the internet
Don't these get all CVT? I drove a few of these new Toyotas and the most impressive thing to me was how smooth everything was. It's almost like you're gliding, loving the no gears as well.
Yes they do
No they do not use a CVT It's actually genius how they work It's called a planetary gear so that's why there's much smoother than a normal CVT and when they do make noise they actually get up and move on like a normal CVT and they're also very reliable but I believe if you get one that's not hybrid that's automatic yes that would have a miserable CVT in it.
Great video :)
The Yaris is a grand looking car on the outside. I wouldn't be too fussed on the dash design, though.
Those shelves seem a bit pointless, especially for the reasons you pointed out. I also don't like the moulding for the screen. Though, it is the same case in other cars, such as the Fords.
I was having this discussion over on my Instagram..... do you find that cars with this chunky plastic dash get a little bit smelly over time? I was remarking at how fiestas always seem to smell stale! 😂
@@AutoSocialUK I did comment on Instagram that there hasn't been an unpleasant smell in my 2009 Fiesta since I got it.
Though, there has been the odd smell of damp from the airvents, which has usually passed quick enough.
For a while after I got it back in 2016, there were comments about it smelling brand new 😄 I don't think the smell has changed that much. I do try to keep it clean inside and out 🙂
@@AutoSocialUK There hasn't been any stale smells in any of the cars I have had so far ('86 Escort, '90 Corolla, '00 Almera, '07 Yaris, '16 Yaris).
My new Yaris just smells like new leather. :)
...Well, at least untill fall, when it's time for undercoating, then it will smell like chemicals for a month... :P
Wooow I like it car nice so cute interview thanks 💝👏
Thank you for watching!
JLB stereo? Looked at one at the weekend and found it very tinny.
These small cars never seem to have superior sound systems in unfortunately
5:12 how frequently would you slam on the brake in a city car like Yaris which is not designed to dominate the Nurburgring with fastest lap time?
In an emergency? Don’t forget that Yaris has quite a sensitive front assist so it like to slam the brake on quite frequently.
@@AutoSocialUK Yeah we have a Excel with Tech pack & Pano roof in Tokyo Red..Great car and never got issue with phone falling off.
It also do self driving like Tesla on motorway it is a good little car. HUD is also a nice addition especially for a car in this class.
@@borinvlogs Only for about 9 seconds, it will nag you about putting your hands on the steering wheel after that.
I like simple, reliable cars. Still driving a mk 2 Yaris and it's never let me down. Might upgrade to this one or the new Yaris Cross they will be releasing this year! The Yaris Cross looks gorgeous.
Ah , the XP90. I had a 2007 1,3L for about 5,5 years (fall 2011 - January 2017). That little pregnant rollerskate really grew on me, and I still smile every time I see one on the road. :)
And the sliding rear seats made it incredibly flexible. The sliding tray under the passenger seat was a nice feature as well. Storage space absolutely everywhere!
Only complaint was the low gearing the pre-facelift had. I often found myself looking for a 6th gear that wasn't there.
Nice car 🚗
Nice review! Please note the engine is 1.5 liters and not 1.6 :)
Silvio AMG you’re correct, I’m not sure why 1.6 popped into my brain!! I hadn’t even noticed
@@AutoSocialUK What matters most is the actual content and you managed to deliver it in a pleasant way. One of the points you touched in your review was about the smoothness of the transmission, and I couldn't agree more. This is one of the aspects where Toyota still marks the difference vs the main competitors and which is linked to a very high driving pleasure especially around the city!
Isn't 114 bhp either.... It's 116....
Martin Laugesen research online usually differs around 1-2bhp with every car.
Martin Laugesen car buyer - ‘The car's petrol and electric motors produce a combined 114bhp’ Auto car - ‘114bhp. That’s 16bhp more than before’ Autoexpress - ‘Power: 114bhp’ (where is it that you have seen it at 116?? Is it possible that is PS)
I going to buy one of these cars a I finish get my license this year
Just sold a diesel and bought one of these. Cannot believe how good it is to drive and I average 71mpg. Unreal
I know right!? So good!
I fell in love with this girl after 4 seconds of video
That’s so kind 🥺🥰
@@AutoSocialUK And I'm waiting for my Toyota already... But mine will have steering wheel 'on the wrong side' ;)
That's called physical attraction, not love. ;)
Its a 1.5ltr engine, quick glance on the spec sheet will tell you that
I had highlighted this in a pinned comment ☺️
Btw, who would go for Yaris if you have to carry four adults regularly?!
You’d be surprised 😂😂
@@AutoSocialUK I would definitely be surprised when one has other, bigger choices.
Which car?
Great review but you don't discuss how expensive it is for such a small car.
It is very expensive, but inflation is really kicking in
That's because of the hybrid system I would guess.
I thought these were 1.5 and not 1.6 ?
Nice car, looks sporty for the young ones, but not for me, that interior is just too grey. Great presentation though by you 😊. My mini arrives next week. Yay.
Yes, I think in black it would be much more subtle but then slightly dull interior.... not a Mini is it??? 😍😍😍😍
@@AutoSocialUK true, maybe a bit of colour like a red line on the dash or something could break it up a little. True, its no mini. I confirmed a paint protection today so it keeps the paint nice and new looking 😊
"Driving with the Yaris is a bit like driving with your mother" Absolutely, and what's wrong with that? I have ordered a new Yaris which I may expect delivery next March (2022)!
Great review - my daughter complains that I drive "like a grandad"! That's because I am one...
In the test drive I got 81mpg with 66% of the time in EV mode.
For full disclosure, I also own a 1300cc Yamaha motorbike that's a trifle quicker, but not as fuel efficient...
what's the fuel efficiency of this car?
high 50MPG
Nice wee car and because it comes with a CVT no need for my wallet to be stretched.
Hybrids in my book are okay and as my car, a ICE Fiesta Active should soon be replaced by an up to date model - maybe the Yaris is what I need?
id say that is incredible fuel economy
Yes very very good Karl!
does it have ISOfix?
Yes, 2 sets of ISOFIX
How tall are you?
I’m around 5’4
Nice watchable review thanks. 8.16..saying but it only comes with automatic, is like saying 40 yrs ago, this corolla 'only' comes with electric start and electric ignition, there is no starting handle or advance and retard levers. 😉
11:10....what gears?
Its not eclectic, Automatics still have gears
@@AutoSocialUK A CVT is similar to an automatic in that it doesn't use any input from the driver, but that is where the similarities end. A CVT doesn't have any gears. Instead, it has two pulleys. One pulley connects to the engine, and the other connects to the wheels. A flexible belt connects the two pulleys.
I always feel the obligatory central screen that modern cars have ruins the look of the dashboard. It's a fad that I wish would die out as they're really not necessary.
Chris Stanley interesting point Chris - where would you like to see a Satnav displayed or are you just not interested in tech?
@@AutoSocialUK The sass is strong with this one. ;)
I think the display that comes with the binocular-style instrument cluster is a vast improvement over the tiny display that was in my old Yaris from 2016!
@@HepauDK hahahahha that wasn’t supposed to sound sassy!!
sorry dear it hasnt got gears
toyota now gives 10 year warranty as long as you use them for your service needs
Wow, that’s amazing isn’t it!
I don't know about the UK, but in Denmark, the 10 year warranty only covers the hybrid system.
5:48 spider? :D
Hahah well spotted 🕷
I can't be sure, but I think it's a maple leaf or similar....
Only 3.18l/100km
Nice.
And what if the battery breaks down and needs to be replaced? That's a lot of money.
you didn't say anything about engine, acceleration.
The battery is included in the 5 year warranty, as I said in the video Toyota have been building on their hybrid engine far longer than a lot of brand and there aren’t any well know issues with the electric motor. Acceleration is 0-62 in 9.7 seconds which is respectable for a car of its size. It seemed nippy enough to me.
Breakdown of the hybrid system is as rare as hen's teeth, there are 20+ years old Prius's out there still running on the original batteries. The hybrid system is part of the 5yr standard warranty plus the annual hybrid health check can provide extended warranty on the hybrid system for 12 years I believe.
Thank you for clearing up Nick, as I thought
The battery itself has a 10 year warranty. The hybrid system as a whole is 8 years, as far as I remember.
Just don't block the vent for the cooling fan (should be located under the front left corner of the rear seat, at least it is on laft hand driving versions), and keep the filter for said fan clean. It can be cleaned by prying off the lid with a flat head screwdriver and vacuuming the filter. There is a step-by-step guide on how to do it in the owner's manual.
@@nickjolly3984 First and 2. generation of the Prius had problems with the batteries due to not having a filter on the cooling fan, as far as I remember.
But if maintained properly, they are pretty much bulletproof.
Why do they always get the top spec version to try? They know most sales are usually of the mid spec. Simply just because of 2 reasons. First they don't care about the viewers who can't afford the top spec. Second, Toyota don't want you to think about the inferior quality and lower spec you'll actually receive in your model.
No the stuff will only fall out, once you accelerate fast, not when you slam on the breaks, basic physics
'Brakes'. Basic English.
price car is
starts from £21,270
If you slam the brakes that stuff has 1% chance of falling from the dash pockets young lady)) 🤣🤣
Admittedly this only second new Yaris Hybrid review I've watched. Meant to watch good half dozen because this total opposite to original Hybrid. Which I understand to be a bit of a con. Always chance this new one will be good secondhand buy, perfect for me in some ways. Guess will see.
I love 💕 you
What you doing to me with those pants?!
Eleven months ago we were very enthusiastic about the new Yaris Hybrid and planned to replace our then four and a half year old Yaris Hybrid with this new one in the summer.
Until we found out that the new Yaris is not exactly a practical car.
What Tish does not show is that the rear doors only open very limited. I would say a crack...
And with the front seats as far forward as possible, it still looks fairly roomy in the back seat, but... with the driver seat arranged for me (6 ft., long legs) and when I squeezed myself in through that crack, I'm poking in the front seat with my knees.... ..
Don't even think about installing a child seat through those doors and then we better not talk about getting a kid in that chair... 😠
Fortunately, we discovered the Honda Jazz. Compare the space in the back of the Yaris in this video ua-cam.com/video/4pUty6rXvCg/v-deo.html (from 3: 30) with what it looks like in the Jazz in this video ua-cam.com/video/FwJwmD9Dksg/v-deo.html from 2 :32.
By the way, they are very smart to have the review of the Yaris done by a not too tall person and that of the Jazz by a significantly taller person... 😉
And let's better not talk about how practical the Jazz is compared to the Yaris....
The comparison of the reviews makes clear what we had already discovered: Of these two hybrids, the Jazz is suitable as a family car, the Yaris (unfortunately) not.
You can probably guess which car now is the successor of our Yaris...
Correct!!! For more than 5 months we have been driving with great pleasure and satisfaction in that spacious, comfortable and economical Jazz!
Is the jazz a big car to drive or is it the same size as the Yaris hybrid because I'm new to the road so I'm not sure which one to get.
@@neilmurphy845
Just like the Yaris, the Jazz is still a small car and although the length is about 10 cm. more than the Yaris, the width is about 5 cm less. However, the interior of the Jazz is significantly more spacious, especially in the rear seats. The boot is also larger.
The Jazz is a breeze to drive around town and very easy to park, especially the EX with front and rear sensors plus a rear camera.
The only way to find out which is best for you is to test drive both extensively.
Very pretty lady, not a bad wee car either.
Thanks Brian!
This lady is a little nutz
Blkechn I’m going to take that as a compliment
Its JBL not J L B 🤣🤣🤣
Well at least I didn’t say JCB 😂😂😂
Too robot , drop the script and drive and talk , then edit after !!
Nobody would keep their keys on the dash unless a woman.
Well a helpful tip for woman then hey?
Actually, with the smart key, it should remain in said womans purse. You can both lock and unlock the car without taking it out.
I'm a man, so I leave it in my jacket, or hook it to a belt strap with a carabiner if not wearing a jacket.
Unlock the car by grabbing the driver side door handle, and lock it by touching the two lines on the front of the handle. The boot also has a small button for locking and unlocking it. It is located just right of the button used to open the boot.
To be honest, this car does not have an automatic or manual gearbox. It has an electric engine that directly drives the driving wheels. And the Petrol engine moves an alternator that powers the electric engine.
Wrong I'm afraid. It's a CVT gearbox. The petrol and electric motors work together to power the wheels via a planetary gear set. There's no alternator, the electric motor also acts as a generator.
@@nickjolly3984 Also wrong. On the name at least. It's an e-CVT. A standard CVT, like the older Yaris' have, has a belt and pulleys instead of the planetary gear.
Other than that, you are correct. :)
And somehow wheel is in a different side :///
The correct size 😉
Why does Europe get a nicer looking Yaris than North America? Ours look like an ugly piglette.
Interesting; it says ‘Toyota Confirms Yaris Sedan, Hatchback Are Dead to U.S.’ but it looks like they gave up a long time ago!!
@@AutoSocialUK They even rebranded a Mazda 2 sedan as a Yaris at some point.
Those North Americans are weird..... ;)
Narcissistl lets see the POV we dont need to see your face the whole time

I`m sorry this lass hasn`t a clue what she is talking about 80 mph in EV mode ???? she is worse than Jeremy Clarkson at the affordable working mans car
She's right, that's what Toyota claim.
I apologize to you lass
