I don't know what it is about this movie but it definitely has a very modern sort of humor about it and it doesn't look so much like it was made in the '80s. I think it still holds up extremely well
Bill has the quick slip that he recovers from, but when taking his recovery step up, he fails it and places his foot down on its side, causing the fall. That, I feel, would be decently difficult to do scripted.
When Frank throws water on the waiter he sees burning, he says, "I'm sorry. You know I thought you were Richard Pryor." This is a reference to an event in Pryor's life when, while freebasing cocaine, accidentally set himself on fire and ran down a busy street in Los Angeles.
this was a moment of ad-libbing genius. quite possibly the greatest movie fall of all time. Bill Murray really went all the way there. I am glad Richard Donner decided to keep it
I watched Scrooged for the first time ever last week and this was a genuine full lol moment for me as I sat alone. I just assumed it was Bill Murray genius.
Credit to Bill for keeping in charater but also fair play to that actor playing the waiter holding it together the way he did and the way he looks left to right of the restaurant keeping that form of confusion while he's really looking at off screen crew expecting a call for "cut"... Had he broke or rushed over to see if Bill was ok then this unscripted gold would never have made it into the final cut 😀
Wow. What a prat fall. I mean, unscripted, wow. Murray had a choice to make there. Fall forward and keep the scene going... I wonder if he added any extra slippage of his own just to even it out. It was perfect.
I didn't know his fall was unscripted. But really it completes the scene perfectly, and adds to Frank's increasing loss of composure.
We should acknowledge the waiter for not ruining the take. Bravo, sir.
He almost did he looks around very confused and seems to break character for ansecond before lookiing st himself.
This is still one of the funniest falls I’ve ever seen.
Agreed. Just had to watch it 3 times
Evidently, unscripted,…but that’s talent.
That and robin Williams fall in the birdcage. Also unscripted
Sana düşüşümü görmen lazım ;)
I always thought this looked to real to be a scene, now found out it was a real slip, looked painful but awesome
When he says “I thought you were Richard Pryor”, check out the extra’s face behind him 🤦♂️
lol the extra looks like he's trying hard not to burst out laughing, wouldn't surprise me if Bill Ab-Libbed that lol
@@American-Zero most of his dialogue was, apparently there's another films worth of Murray greatness on the cutting room floor!
I think he actually was disgusted by the joke, considering Pryor was severely burned
@@pts5217 Yeah, that's definitely a wince at a tasteless joke. As a kid it flew over my head.
@@aedwardsss nah it was kinda funny, like those types of jokes that are funny because they are bad

This movie came out in 1988. I have seen this fall many, many times since then. How the hell is it still so damn funny every time? 😆
It’s brilliant, always said you could never fake that fall!! Love that movie
He actually never meant to do that. He said the water on his shoes made him slip.
Such a brilliant movie, Bill Murray at his finest. Watch it every year. What an actor to fall like that and keep it going!

That richard Pryor line kills
When Frank throws water on the waiter he sees burning, he says, "I'm sorry. You know I thought you were Richard Pryor." This is a reference to an event in Pryor's life when, while freebasing cocaine, accidentally set himself on fire and ran down a busy street in Los Angeles.
Great job everyone staying in character when he fell.
Watching it now and thought that slip looked real. The way his ankle turned just can't be faked.
And he hit his head on the door frame. Kept it going like a true professional!
It's this and Robin Williams's fall in The Birdcage!
An amateur would've looked back after that fall to mug the camera. Not Murray. Head forward, keep it going.
The fact he gets up, then tries to dust himself off really adds to it 😂
@@jamieboy06 Exactly.
This is the best thing that has ever happened.
Ron Gray but why was the guy not on fire when splashed with water?
FUCKSTOPASKING FORMYNAME Go watch the movie ssshole
FUCKSTOPASKING FORMYNAME He was hallucinating.
this was a moment of ad-libbing genius. quite possibly the greatest movie fall of all time. Bill Murray really went all the way there. I am glad Richard Donner decided to keep it
...Don't stop acting until they say the word, "cut." XD
Master of improv
They just kept it in. Best stack in movie history. The floor was still wet!
I watched Scrooged for the first time ever last week and this was a genuine full lol moment for me as I sat alone. I just assumed it was Bill Murray genius.
That's hilarious, I didn't know that was unscripted xD
Went well with the scene.
I love how all his childhood memories were actually TV shows he watched growing up 🤣
I always figured this was a real accidental fall.
Bender Overtons I did too lol
Me and my sister use to rewind/play over and over again in hysterics. No wonder we found it so funny it was real!
Currently doing that right now. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
This and Robin Williams fall in The Birdcage will forever be the best unscripted falls, that made it into the final cut.
One of the best non scripted falls lol.

"One Shot Bill" ~ Ivan Reitman
The universe timed this perfectly.
why is it so LOUD lmao I'm surprised no one immediately reacted and came running over. That had to hurt
Bill murray is the voice of garfield
I somehow came across this but every time I saw this scene I always thought it had to be genuine. lmao
It fits nicely
When I was watching this I thought "that looked way too painful to be scripted 😅"
The way that ankle went the wrong way- 😬
Kudos for not cussing and or looking into the camera.
I guess the filmmakers thought it was so funny that they decided to leave it in the movie
I think about this scene a lot, so funny.
His back stays so straight on the second part of that fall
I remember laughing my ass off when I first saw that in 88.
How old are you now?
Looks unscripted to me. Why? It genuinely looks painful the way he twisted his ankle. But great comedy 😂
Wow. What a prat fall. I mean, unscripted, wow. Murray had a choice to make there. Fall forward and keep the scene going... I wonder if he added any extra slippage of his own just to even it out. It was perfect.
So graceful is Bill Murray

This movie is so awesome. 😂
Get me a cab
Level 1 Tap dancing
Perfect
oof, it looks like he rolled his ankle
omfg thats hilarious
Definitely unscripted. He hit the deck pretty good. Oof.
The fall was funny but the Richard Pryor line got me. The guy's a white dude haha
But, where was the burning 🔥 guy???
It's in Frank's mind. The waiter looked like he was on fire, when he wasn't.
It turned out to not be Richard Pryor. He was mistaken.
Unscripted
So funny
