Amtrak Trains in Galesburg, Illinois - July 4, 2023

In this video, I look at a couple of Amtrak trains in Galesburg, IL along with part of a BNSF freight. Due to delays, the Amtrak California Zephyr and Southwest Chief arrived to Galesburg in very close proximity to one another. This provided a chance to see both at Peck Park within about 10 minutes of each other.

The two Amtrak trains were heading toward Chicago on the former CB&Q tracks (Burlington) while the freight below was on the former Santa Fe tracks. When the SF decided to build their own tracks from Kansas City to Chicago, they were going to bypass Galesburg. But the city leaders lobbied hard to get the line through town and even came up with the route along Cedar Creek.
