Should add to look at Haskovo because even though there are posh hotels, there is a municipal baths using the spring water which of course is very cheap. That's the way to do these things! I look hot springs. We went Arnedillo in Spain that has hot springs, another cheap holiday. The baths are FREE and you can rent an apartmento very cheap. People always ask me how we afford our holidays and the answer is we don't stay in 5 star bleeding hotels.

This ex Park Road, Dingle L8 lad is enjoying your vids on Bulgaria. Keep up the good work. Ive been to all the Slavic countries but not Bulgaria, thats if BG can be classed as Slavic. I get the physche of the Slavs even Russia where I have been many times. Maybe BG could be worth investing in some form of property.

It always amuses me when media talks about "Former Beatle" Paul McCartney.
The Beatles split up in 1970.

One year we went Malta, and we were trying to avoid all the egg and chips cafes. We were in Bugibba which is probably the most British resort. Anywayz there was a Bulgarian restaurant which was FAB. It was very cheap but the portions were MASSIVE. Great stuff. Hearty food! We ate there a lot.

The big black car is a Chaika. The blue one is a Volga. The I think the cream beetle shaped car is a Polish FSO Warszava, but there's a Russian built GAZ Pobeda which looks very similar.. The American car is a late 1950's Cadillac.
I'm 99% sure the Lada Niva 4xas are still in production. There was someone importing new Navas into the UK until the recent sanctions against Russian goods were enacted.
UAZ "Loaf of bread" vans are still in production; they've been made since 1965. I believe they're fairly common in Bulgaria.
The older rear engined Skoda with the fins is a 1000 MB.
I'd spend hours in that museum too!

Bulgaria was never part of the Soviet Union (USSR). We were part of the Soviet-led economical union (SIV) and the Soviet-led military union (The Warshav pact), but we were a separate sovereign state (well, not so sovereign in reality, of course, but at least on paper).

@@nickob55 The USSR was a federal state, like the US is - but it consists of republics within an union. After the changes - some republics became independent (like Kazakhstan, Azerbaidjan etc), other republics remained part of the new Russian federation.
Most countries of Eastern Europe were NOT part of the USSR. They were members of the Warsaw pact, like they're now members of NATO, that's all. I think only the Baltic states - Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia were part of the USSR.
Also, there were no Soviet army in Bulgaria and in the other states of the Eastern Bloc, except Eastern Germany.
The Soviet army invaded Bulgaria near the end of WWII, but the country surrendered with no fight and at the end of the war part of the Bulgarian and Soviet armies were chasing and fighting the retreating Germany army.
Shortly after the war the Soviet army left Bulgaria, so we were not under military occupation.
However, the country was in full control of the secret services, which in turn were coordinated with the political party (the Communist party) and with the Soviet secret services, so Moscow had almost complete control over the country, but not in a direct way, but through the Bulgarian ruling Communists.

@@nickob55 perhaps, the media meant former Soviet [aligned] state. Like - a Soviet Bloc state. Not like a republic, part of the USSR.
