Rome Labyrinth. What is the purpose of this?

This location was originally an erosion control pond built in the 1930's; then later in the 1960's it was converted into an amphitheater for use by folk artists as a space for reading poetry and performing music. It is still used for that purpose today and also as a place to just sit and relax in the Tranquility Garden. "Unlike a maze, a labyrinth has only one path and the intention is not to confuse, but rather to help one focus. The path into the center is a search for your true self as the stresses and concerns of the world slip away from your consciousness"
