  • The Capitoline Wolf statue is an exact replica of the famous Etruscan Statue located in Rome, Italy. This replica was presented as a gift to the city of Rome, GA from the Italian government in 1929. The stature portrays infants Romulus and Remus, the mythical founders of Rome, Italy, who were cast away and raised by wolves. The original Etruscan Statue stands in the Palazzo dei Conservatori on Campidoglio (Ancient Capitoline Hill) in Rome, Italy. While most in the Rome community consider this statue to be a work of art; it's presence in front of City Hall has not been without controversy. Oftentimes, prior to important events that were held at City Hall, diapers have been placed on the infants and the wolf draped with a sheet to hide it from view. In 1933, a thief took one of the baby twins. The identity of the thief and location of the infant were never found. The city of Rome, Italy sent a new twin and the statue was eventually restored to it's original form. See links below for more information.
