I think the old man could be their caretaker (there was this little house for the swans at the castle side of the water, which some one had to clean) so the swans would probably have known him since they arrived there.
I lived in the castle for 6 months for an art project in 2009, back then the swans were allready very territorial when people stood close to the water, but nowhere near as nasty as in this video. I was told that in later years they claimed dominion over the whole park and eventually the swans where relocated to a larger park because the people from the village were tired of their aggression. Their caretaker who was an old man got ill and passed away a few months later.

Also, the black swan's strategy evidently works as they are the characterised as 'least concern' re: endangerment status. Plus, I see a man (presumably the father) running away from his child in a pram after being chased by a swan. Perhaps he could learn from these birds...

There are some Ducks who like to get a close up from the action even when there is a fight or something between two Geese or whatever.
And they always do this head down move, and those wiggelt their tailfeathers also haha.
Looks like they want to cheer and shout but with submissive Body Language, so that it doesnt come of hostile or irritating xD

It’s amazing to see
In nature there is always a cost and benefit balance. They don't behave that way like stupid humans who act out to get respect and impress, they have young that they want to protect. They realize humans are stronger, so they threaten them to have them away from their young. If that doesn't work because the human won't leave of will attack them back, there is just not much more they can do. The costs for a real fight with a human outmatches the eventual benefit, since they know they cannot win. That is what happened with the pink woman and man in the brown.

And it is staying in love with the male black swan ... in my mind the sheldrake was imprinted on a black swan in its first days. Like a lot of animals, the problem is people run away and then the birds get the idea that they'll always get their way if they charge humans. I was attacked by a black swan when I was 10. My uncle Mike had a pond and some little row boats. I took one out solo and cornered a black swan. I was so determined, I just slowly chased it around until it was sort of backed into a big patch of reeds. I reached out to touch it, but it touched me instead. Over and over and over, at lightning speed. I almost went out of the boat. When it finally stopped, I rowed back to the dock, screaming all the way, and ran up to the house. I had welts all over my arm and the right side of my chest. My skin was close to being broken in several spots. I'll never forget how terrifying it was.
I hope you learned to respect other animals that day. I am sorry for your experience, but the lake was the safe place of the swan and you invaded it. Your uncle Mike shouldve tought you that, before he lets you row out alone. I hope you didnt develope a severe phobias against these animals. If you learn to communicate and respect them they are lovely animals.
