Solid comparison. The guys I've spoken to over here (UK) tend towards Peli, from those in the sound industry to videographers they seem to be incredibly popular

I have several pelicans, condition1 and a large skb ,the skb was purchased for the padded deviders, for the pelican 1650, amazon made a price error the skb 3i2918-10 was sold at 205 dollars, the skb deviders are 171 dollars by tben selves , ended paying 34 dollars for the skb case

Would love to see that video on swapping out Pelican wheels! Awesome comparison.

I just ordered a new set of wheels for my Yellow case today, I'll be working on that video as soon as they arrive! Thanks for watching!

I too have used both brands and they're both excellent. Only issue I ever had was an airline sheared off the main handle on my SKB acoustic guitar case while flying to Australia, but SKB was more than happy to send me a new one, and they install very easily. Can't go wrong with either one.

Any experience with the new Pelican Air cases?

I haven't actually had the chance to use those yet, but they look AMAZING! I'm hoping I can get a look at one soon, as I'm in the market for a smaller 1510 case that I can carry onto certain flights.

great+useful comparison! curious to hear if you've got any experiences with porta brace cases. I've had one for about a year now and I love it

I haven't used their hard cases personally. I've been around them on jobs, but never traveled with one myself. Their bags though... I really do like their bags. Living in the city and traveling a lot for work, I'm a bit of a bag junky and I wish most of mine were as rugged as theirs are.

ooh good to know. I've only ever used their hard cases but I'm about to be in the market for a new bag, I'll check them out

What do you think of PLANO cases - in particular the 1612 model?

The only Plano case I've had was a small 3-tray tackle box that will probably outlive me. I've had a few Pelican cases in the style of the 1612, like a deep box & it is one of my favorite shapes for travel. For the $40 they charge, I'd definitely give it a shot if it will be in your control the whole time you're traveling with it. Maybe not for flights.

We sell the iSeries and my god if those things aren't the biggest pain in the ass when it comes to the larger cases. I've noticed that, generally, the larger the case is with SKB iSeries, the more abundant and potentially catastrophic the manufacturing/injection molding defects. I bet I've had to process and examine half a dozen returns of the *one* .50 cal case we keep in stock. We've had SKB replace it, and the replacements have the exact same issues (outer shell/rubber seal/aluminum rail massively off alignment).
tl;dr- I deal with SKB and their iSeries lineup and I'd still recommend Pelican any day of the week.

Both cases are overkill for most.

I agree... actually shooting a new video right now about Pelican case alternatives that I use. Stay tuned & thanks for the comment Robert!
