This reminds me of a quote:"The bird which is caged it's entire life wonders how freedom is, and the brid with freedom wonders about the safety of being in a cage".
1. she probably didnt even know all those people were after, especially because it had been thousands of years and she was hiding out on earth 2. rose literally said herself she’s excited to have steven because he gets to be human. rose wanted steven to grow up and choose who he gets to be and what he does with his life. however greg saw him as gem. it was clearly showed in the song ‘dear old dad’ ‘in this world full of gems there’s none like you’. yes rose may have not handled her business but if anyone is to be held responsible it’s greg. as he was hardly in his life and just gave him to the gems, who knows nothing about what humans are and what humans do. all those gems knew was to just fight. rose wouldn’t have wanted that for steven if steven didn’t want it for himself.
No matter what anyone says I will always not like rose quartz no matter what she caused all of Stevens trauma and she just left. It doesn't matter if she wanted him to live like a human. She still left her mistakes for him..
@@Luvly_Lonieno she doesn’t get a pass😂u forgot she literally made up a persona out of boredom and what else did she do? Oh yea..she LIED TO EVERYONE EXCEPT PEARL and led a war on homeworld and the diamonds ..and risked a lot of lives and faked her death..she used the gems to free herself from a life she never wanted..then when she had Steven the gems didn’t even know what to do with him..what if they tried to kill him? They didn’t know wtf a baby was atp in their lifetimes..ntm pearl kinda looking at Steven like she was ashamed..not done there..remember the shit with bismuth? Locked her up for no reason at all just for her to get unbubbled by her son whom she tried to kill? And then not only that..she decided to get pregnant..not even tell Greg what she truly was (even tho it was obvious Greg loved her through and through) or told Steven..like give him a warning..anything…nothing wrong with telling your child you love them..but bro how about telling him he’s possibly gonna have to deal with gems or you know..that his own kind is possibly gonna come for him due to the shit she’s did..not Greg fault at all it’s roses 100%
The problem was his dad grew up with too many rules and steven grew up with absolutely no structure. It doesnt hurt to have a little of both, I rarely heard greg say no to his kid. Children need structure at a young age, they’re little and dont know the difference between whats wrong and right sometimes. And saying no to them can save them a lot of future emotional turmoil.
@@hoosfire4270 no that’s not why, Greg didn’t know how to raise a kid and just did the opposite of what his parents did. Which not surprisingly, wasn’t right.
@@hoosfire4270 yeah that would’ve made it weird, Greg never rlly understood the whole gem thing- he was a regular guy and saw his son as his son. He didn’t even wrap his head around the whole thing.. only other gems saw Steven as pink diamond.
The point of this scene was to show that both childhoods were bad Steven’s dad (greg) grew up with no freedom always constantly getting shamed never being able to do anything he wants while Steven grew up in a van always going through hard sittuations and dangerous missions
Exactly. It's two extremes, neither got the childhood anyone should have. Greg was restricted of EVERYTHING he enjoyed, he lived in a prison. Steven grew up with no restrictions, absolutely free. But it's not as much freedom as it is no control. Humans *need* some level of control and routine in their life, it's what we are made for. We need patterns, we need stability. The amount of stability needed is different for everyone, but everyone needs it. Steven grew up with the gems always gone, never knowing when they would be back. As he grew, he was included in dangerous missions that gave no certainty that anyone would make it back home ALIVE. I understand Greg wanted Steven to be free, but this is borderline NEGLECT. He left him to the gems to care for, aliens who admittedly have no clue what to do with a human child. But not even just that, he didn't have a PHYSICIAN? He didn't have SCHOOL? It would be MIRACLE if Steven can do basic math, and he is 18. Does he even have a legal name? Legal documents? Does he even have a driver's LICENSE? Greg should be in JAIL. I know he loves Steven and wanted the best but this is straight up neglect. Hell, he had won a FORTUNE and he STILL didn't put steven in school. even the online option he offered, that never happened! Greg is a great uncle, but he is a god awful parent. "My problem isn't that I'm a gem. My problem is that I'm a UNIVERSE!" The demayos had stability. A normal human life. Stevens real uncle, he has plans and is supposedly a responsible adult. The gems are aliens who honestly did pretty good with Steven, considering they will never fully understand what a human child needs from a guardian. Not saying they are innocent, but Steven should have been GREG's responsibility! Steven is Greg universe's son and he was given no control. No stability. Which is something I think he desperately would have benefited from mentally since his whole linkage is tied to a galactic war that is threatening his life, family, and home
Yes that is the point of the video but I also feel like it hits a lot of grownups hard if they had a childhood like this I’m not saying i did tho anyways I love Steven universe and this was so sad!!
Steven is literally going through every stage of anxiety and depression, he wants to find out who he truly is, and he doesn't know how to cope with himself.....
I can, and honestly.. it like hurts more cuz I feel like I saw it coming in a way it’s the completely logical trajectory after seeing the entire events of Steven universe
The sad part was that his dad was just trying to give his son “freedom” which was something that he didn’t grow up with. He lived in a world that stopped him from being him and he couldn’t bare to see his son suffer the same way
To be honest, after the crash, Greg handled it in a very good way in my mind. He let's Steven know that he's proud of him for speaking his mind, something he could never do. It obviously doesn't get through to Steven, but it's still there and 100 times better than being mad at him
It's a double edged sword though, cuz it also proves Steven right. Greg is good for congratulating Steven, but it shows that his dad is almost incapable of acting like an actual parent any scolding him for something, which is exactly what Steven was talking about.
It is good that Greg told steven he isn't mad at him for what he did, but that's not necessarily what steven needed or wanted. Steven wanted Greg to support him as a father, telling him when he makes mistakes and how to guide him through his issues. Greg instead just tells him how much better off Steven's life is than his was, without trying to understand his issues. Greg thinks that Steven's life was better off, but it doesn't feel like that to him. Steven needs advice on what to do, and Greg isn't providing that for him.
@@JoeArty I mean it's also kind of hard to properly parent a child who's constantly under the much more respected care of 4 super heroes, all of which are far more physically capable of handling any possible superpowered outbursts of a child/teenager going through literally the most unprecedented life in the history of the world. Nobody knows what could happen to a human gem hybrid, and it's impossible to treat someone capable of actually (near)killing you with a thought and then spitting your wounds healed within the same action as if they need to listen to you. Greg could've tried more, but honestly with hindsight taken out of the equation, how could he have possibly known leaving his son with the guardians was a bad idea? And in retrospect, if he DID have that normal life, wouldn't the world have been long destroyed by now? Steven saved so many lives, including his own, because of how his dad chose to raise him
I don't know much of the lore anymore, but I do know that most of the things that happened to them came from Stevens choices, one way or another. Him wanting to go on adventures with them, him wanting to go back for the gems when Jasper Came to earth, his choice when he brought Greg to Korea to find the Palanquin, and his choice to go to homeworld. It all was his choice, and if it wasn't for that intergalactic peace would've never existed, he never would've taught the bad guys to change. Greg didn't make Steven do that, Steven chose that, and the real fact is, he's completely different from every other human, to where no human knew what to do.
@@shevthegreb757 Steven was also a child at the time, meaning a responsible parent would've stepped in and told them no. A parents job to to allow room for independence while also making sure the kid doesn't make a dumb choice that could seriously hurt themselves because they are naive. And that's not to say Steven wouldn't have had to experience these things sooner or later because he is a gem, but for Greg to completely dismiss Steven's trauma by saying he had a better childhood than Greg isn't it.
I think its easier to understand Greg's position when it comes to his views on how to raise Steven when you understand that they aren't really his views to begin with. To be clear, Steven comes from two worlds and should have had the benefits that came from both as his birthright, but that was never going to happen smoothly. And whatever Greg may have felt about how to raise Steven would have been overshadowed by the influence of the Crystal Gems. His first child, without the support of his wife, family and with such a fundamental lack of understanding of gem culture, as well as his own insecurities about raising a kid considering his own childhood, we can understand why he may have been more easily persuaded by the gems to leave Steven in their care. And I do mean persuaded, because Greg has always been shown to be an eager participant in Stevens growth, and wanting to be in his life, even to an extreme case in the episode where they duct tape the giant bubble formation that had a giant crack in it (I don't remember it very well, but i remember that part). Greg is always being discouraged and undermined by the gems however, constantly being told that Steven is not like anything ever seen before and otherwise being ostracized by the gems due to their preconceptions about him and his capabilities. To summaries, Greg probably would have tried harder to give Steven a normal childhood if he wasn't primed to believe that he couldn't do it, either because of his own capabilities or because it wouldn't benefit Steven.
Yeah, when you think about it, the gems are the biggest reason Steven couldn’t have a normal life. The concept of gems just living normal on earth was unheard of that at the beginning of the show, so I doubt the Gems would let him live outside of their supervision, and they probably convinced a panicking Greg that they would know how to raise Steven (but they didn’t)
Steven's mom side was definitely the bigger issue, Greg is dead to his parents since they never mail back or even open his mails, but Steven from his mom side was psychical and mental trauma 💀
“You grew up with freedom!” “I grew up in a van! I never went to school, I’ve never been to the doctors until 2 days ago!” *Ngl that part always tips me to Steven’s side. Yes, Greg struggled. And yes, Steven is a gem. But he was still a little boy that shouldn’t have got hurt so much and not taken care of properly.*
He did not grow up in a van, the gems AND GREG built a house inside the temple for him to reside in "i could put you through college" "BuT iM wiTh the GeMS AlL tHe TiMe" Never needed to go to the doctor, yeah a therapist would've been nice but imagine trying to explain all the gem stuff, the therapist would need a therapist I do believe that greg really tried his best, the gems were more guilty for raising Steven the way they did imo
@@StarLightGem The Gems really screwed Steven up, not arguing with that. But Greg should never have left Steven with them to begin with. In the end Greg is his Father, he was responsible. He saw how they were when Steven was a baby. If anything Greg should have lived with them, but he didn’t. Steven’s environment all around was complex and not good for him, and I do think Greg played a large role in that.
@@nicolaberry9550 It's heavily implied that the gems felt awkward around Greg and didn't want him around, he left Steven at the temple cause he didn't want the kid to live in a damn van Greg and the gems just couldn't be around each other for long, especially Pearl cause yk, Rose, who i'll forever blame more than anyone else
@@StarLightGem Just because they felt awkward around Greg doesn’t really excuse Greg not being there. Steven is HIS son. Not theirs. I understand Steven living with the Gems for protection, but if thats what its about then Greg should have stayed, awkwardness or not. No amount of “awkwardness” should stop a parent from caring for their child. Greg knew the gems didn’t understand how to raise children, Greg knew Steven was getting into Gem activities, Greg sees Steven less than the Gems, overall Greg should have done better. I sympathise with Greg, but I don’t excuse his behaviour.
@@nicolaberry9550 It technically does excuse Greg from not being there. When he actively around Greg was trying to prevent him from those missions. Young Steven stressed all the time that he was a Crystal Gem! Of course I doubt his mom nor Greg knew that homeworld would come back in the fashion they did. Yet they both of his parents could’ve planned more for a hybrid son like their’s. There’s even an episode that showcases that Greg is often ignored because he’s human and he’s aloof-Mirror Gem & equally the wailing stone song. I think we as fans forget how much the Gems despised Greg. Garnet was a lot more understanding but that couldn’t be said for Pearl & Amethyst. Greg making the choice to leave his son with the Gems was ultimately a good choice in the respect on them fostering his powers. Yet, he should’ve put his foot down more (even seek therapy) to stand up to the Gems. You have to really look at this scene from both perspectives. It’s not necessarily that either one is wrong, yet Steven did have too much freedom but his Dad his definitely been concerned and said no to the Gems before. He rescued Steven when his was a baby, told Pearl he’s not going to space, grounded Steven (alongside the Gems), told him to not go onto that Snowy adventure with the Gems, told him to not go onto adventures with Gems, questioned his son’s safety with the Gems, even tried to evacuate his son during the monster invasion episode. The laser light cannon episode is a prime example of the Gems underestimating Greg and equally his relationship with Rose. That fact that she trusted him with that device says a lot. Could Greg have put his foot down more? Absolutely! But I wouldn’t say that he hasn’t throughout the show. Greg had to accept his son was different when his gem glowed as a baby. He had to accept too that way Steven was going to be raised was not in the same format as him schools, doctors, etc as a Gem. That doesn’t mean that Steven wasn’t receiving care-it just wasn’t in the traditional way. Greg also had to accept the fact that no matter how much he loved his son that he had to trust his instincts. But that man never stopped caring him. He’s guilty of neglect to a certain degree because human side should’ve been considered more and so are the Gems. Yet,I feel that had homeworld not came to Earth we would’ve seen a less traumatized Steven.
The because I’m a universe part hit hard 😢 (edit: just realizing how I got like 2.1K likes on this comment while my videos get like 70 views or 1 like, im dead 💀)
Fr bruh I definitely didn’t fry a bit over this scene, and tbh Steven kinda did Greg dirty in that sentence. But looking at the bigger picture both of their lives growing up were rough
Telling Steven that "he had it easy compared to Greg," always made me so uncomfortable. I think their traumas are so genuinely incomparable. Sure, it sucks growing up and not having too much freedom as a kid. That structure your parents put in place is usually an indication of how much they love you and how much they want to keep you safe, though. By the time Greg was an adult, he was already sort of making bad choices. He gave all his money and time to a manager who was a pretty rude person, not too great of a guy. He instantly left him in the pursuit of a girl who treated him like a commodity and refused to understand him as a person. He felt alienated by Rose but he was captivated by her beauty. He let her do whatever she wanted because he was transfixed by it. Greg made poor choices. Perhaps it was a reflection of his childhood; he grew up in a house that felt suffocating so it felt freeing to make mistakes, to do whatever he wanted no matter the expense. I can't help but be grossed out at how this ideology just sort of... followed Steven into his childhood? He had a baby with an alien, who told him that the second Steven came into the world she could no longer exist. Why did Greg even do this? He had essentially no head on his shoulders, no money, no education of his own, and the only people who could help him were... other aliens! Other aliens who did not like him. Other aliens who did not want Greg around. Not only did Rose become an absent mother the second of Steven's conception, but Greg was an absent father for the sake of Steven's comfort. The gems had a house, money, transportation, and much more. Greg had a van. Aliens don't know how to raise a child, though. The gems are born with the ability to know exactly what their place is and how to do it. Greg was weird for treating his half human son... like an alien! No doctors, no teachers, no school, no other children his age. He lived in a van or that little house on the beach. The gems didn't want him meddling in gem stuff but they couldn't help it when the house was crawling with infected gems at all times. They were constantly putting him in danger, emotionally abusing a child for reacting to the consistent trauma he was being put through day in and day out. His mother's demons came back to haunt him, he had to deal with people physically trying to kill him, believing that he may actually be his mother, getting flashbacks in bodies that weren't his, all of these things that a kid should never have to experience, over and over and over again. *And they would get angry at him for it.* Steven was not allowed to feel emotions, to process things how a child should. He would get chewed out, yelled at. Every adult around him had the need to tell this poor child, that they knew more than him even at the expense of his own feelings. Greg did not have to deal with almost getting murdered, watching people almost get killed, he didn't have to deal with getting trapped in space with another being that wants to kill you. He didn't have to make that decision of throwing them into space because the second he admits who he truly is, what his intentions and feelings are, the gem sprung into kill mode. Greg did not have to deal with any of these things as a child. Not one time did Steven ever hear, "you don't have to do this. There's nothing you have to prove. I can teach you about your mom in a way that's safer for you." He was constantly met with dishonesty, jealousy, anger, and lying. Everyone around him was so deceitful all the time. It was no wonder he grew to become anxious and angry. How could Steven NOT? Greg had actively worsened Steven emotionally for his own benefit; pretending his leg was still broken and making Steven become unsure of his powers. There were so many moments of being self centered on Greg's side. Steven should've never had to heal that rock in the first place, but the fact that he was getting a grip on his powers and his father immediately felt the need to confuse a child for his own benefit? There were so many moments watching interactions between the gems and Steven, or between Steven and his father that i was so annoyed. They had no care in fucking up a kid as long as they got the final word in. Even now, there Steven is. Hes stressed, he's anxious, he's mad and having a panic attack, telling his father how their parenting styles fucked him up as a child. He wanted nothing more than a curfew and a nice meal, and what is he being told? "You're wrong, because i had that and I didn't like it. I was so much worse off than you." No adult in this show can put down their pride for a second just to LISTEN to this poor child. They can't communicate with him, they refuse to understand him. Its heartbreaking.
@stevenuniverse1422 Shut the fuck up, his point stands. Don't go pretending to play a character online that You clearly know nothing about. You must have watched that show one time, skipped half the episodes, and said. "Yeah, I'll make that my entire personality."
the greatest part is they actually take a second to show how Steven doesn't just pass off the trauma he took as a kid (going on life-threating stressful missions as a child)
I don't think that was a thing, he didn't have a mother, nor a good father. He was living with some emotional damaged kids(gems) whom he needed to help by himself.
@@baronfonparo3876 greg was a good dad. Idc what yall say, he is a better dad then most. He listened as best he could and gave responsibility of education to the ONLY beings that could logically understand steven as a half gem.
@@ColdNorth0628People are the product of the environment and people they grow up around. Greg was held to impossible standards as a child and as a result over compensates by not putting restrictions on himself or anyone else. Sure there are rare moments where he tries to reasonably put his foot down as a parent, but ultimately cracks due to his conflict of upbringing. He is not a bad father in the sense that he doesn't care about his son or want the best for him. He is a bad father though in the sense that he takes a back seat to actually raise his child and allows others to do it for him because he feels it's not his place. Greg was only more responsible than Rose in the sense that his biological instinct to take care of his child kicked in as soon as he was born. Something gems don't have. Without this natural instinct, he would have been the exact same as Rose.
This made me upset knowing Greg was forced of his life and he didn’t wanna be tangled into doing something the didn’t and Steven grew up with so much free will it all got to his head and he couldn’t control it… damn the most upsetting scene knowing steven had so much pain in inside
I was watching this episode and couldn't stop feeling so sorry for Steven. People put him on a pedestal that he is a amazing child no worries. He was the therapist friend the carefree one the one you could lean on. He also needs a friend like that. When he turned corrupted Amythest said," Want to know who would be amazing at bringing back to people to who they are?" They all replied who? "STEVEN" Steven just wants freedom to be a kid that he couldn't be.
As a die hard SU fan, this scene hit hard. After watching the OG series you never really realize that all he needs is a normal life and to be on Earth. From the whole entire show, and this sequel, this is my 2nd favorite scene because it shows how all he really wanted to be was normal, he never wanted to be special, he wanted to be loved and protected and have a normal life. Even though he wants things to be normal, they never will be, yet he is able to stand up in the morning after experiencing so much trauma, and has the ability to laugh it off (except here ofc). He can live through not having his wants, because he knows that he never will have his dream of being normal and that’s ok. That whole second series was the masterpiece we needed to end the series after the OG series because it shows what happens to people after so much trauma and how to help yourself. It’s not really about Steven, it’s about mental health and how badly it can affect a person. If you haven’t watched the show, watch it now. It is just a cartoon in the beginning, but by the time your finished you will be shocked at how they could write such a masterpiece.
Children are children because they dont know what it means to have a duty or responsibility. A parent isnt there to enable their child. The parent is meant to Raise them. Teach them right from weing. Some parents take Offense to their child not being what they want them to be. That is wrong. But a child is not in place as a child to decide what is right or wrong. Complaining about your parents giving you rules is one thing. Complaining about them restricting you from choices is another. You're a child. And Greg's parents were right. He failed as a father. Treated his son like his friend, and his son sacrificed innovence for purpose before his innocence was ever allowed to bloom into Wisdom or honor or Being proud without pride. Steven needed parents that Protected him from the world that wanted to shatter him. Not a family that treated him like the tool he believes his mother traded places with.
If you watched this show from beginning to end in the eyes of a child rather than a regular show, you'd know why he'd be this traumatized. This show was beautiful
He went through so much. Here’s a list of things: (SPOILERS) He watched Pearl poof, he watched Amethyst almost die (and get poofed 3 times), he watched Garnet get destabilized, he had a bunch of gems trying to kill him, he watched Lars die, and he got his gem pulled out. And that’s not even all. All he ever needed was a hug and to be understood.
This entire episode is proof that kids need a balance between freedom and rules. Too many rules and your kids ends up like either Connie or Greg, Doing things behind your back and if not fixed, cutting you off entirely. Not enough rules and your kids end up like Steven, feeling like they don’t have enough support from their families.
he seriously needs therapy. yes, he’s half gem, but he’s also human. he needs to seriously let this all out. he’s had a traumatic childhood and he needed help.
" my problem is im a universe " hits so deep because its both saying : my problem is that im your kid and saying : " my problem is that im unbelievably complex , im a person , im dealing with so much , and nobody sees me . and theres no way i can explain all of it . but theres something both staggeringly cosmic , and horrifyingly wrong . "
Greg had no freedom as a kid so he over compensated with Steven letting him do what he wanted but stevens life ended up having not enough stability so he was in scary situations often neither are fully in the wrong its just that Steven faced actual danger
"They can't be worse than mom's family" 😢 That's hurt But finally he have a normal family now Uncel Andy, Diamond aunts, the crystal gems sisters, rose quartz cousins, Beach City friends, best friend Spinel and Connie 😊
Being robbed of a childhood is one of the worst crimes against children, forced to take on so many responsibilities at such a young age damages you more than anyone can possibly imagine
I remember seeing this the first time with my Dad then a few months ago we saw it again he said he related so hard to what Greg said. It was then I realized he regretted his approach to raising his kids, about as much as I regretted never telling him anything. Then only a few weeks ago I learned my Mom didn't know how to be a Mom cause she never had a motherly figure in her life. It was just me and my Dad in the room when both conversations, but rewatching these episodes just makes me relate so much with what Steven says and goes through.

He has been through so much even when he was a toddler. But I think the real reason Greg (Steven’s dad) didn’t make Steven go through what greg did is bc Steven might not have the easy way out of situations, but Greg didn’t have any. So he wanted Steven to make life better for himself instead of doing the same thing greg’s parents do
Bro I remember this show! I watched it SO, SO LONG AGO like- I used to watch this everyday but yk I grew up and they removed it but ty for bringing back-
Steven has and still currently is the most relatable character for me; he was so happy, jusy wanted to help people, but he only got more pressure on him, eventually to where he felt guilty not helping, so it no longer was fun: it became a responsibility
You can't even hate Greg in this situation He had his own trauma from his family and didn't want his son to experience it, but unfortunately by doing so made Steven's life a whole lot worse
I feel bad for Steven.. cuz stevens mom rose or pink made worst descions and used there child to deal with his drama and went to court. Stevens dad is trying .
Kids might be resentful of rules, but deep down they know they're there out of concern. What Steven is feeling is that Greg wouldn't have cared if he died because he refused to actually parent.
I feel so much the opposite of this. My mom grew up with freedom and was allowed to do pretty much anything. What she did with it was drugs and having a baby at 18 (me.) My mom wanted to give me a much safer life. So the farthest barrier I can stretch is to the internet with my phone, which she used to check. And then I sleep- sometimes I'm not allowed to do that though because it isn't good for me to do it too much and also very often she needs me supervising my little half-brothers. I can't wait to leave to college honestly. My stepdad is on board with it and seems to believe in me at least. :)
“You’re better off than I was” Does Greg seriously not understand what Steven has been through after all this time ? Stevens mom died to have him, Greg’s mom made him meatloaf “too” consistently. Steven literally had to dismantle a government full of space hitlers that wanted him dead, Greg had to participate in extracurricular activities he didn’t want to do. How can you say that to a kid who’s a victim to multiple attempted murders, some by his own family, and is depended upon by thousands to even millions of aliens at the age of 17.
This taught us that when you see a bird, you'll always think how easy it is to fly freely not knowing you had to avoid many predators, ones that have no conscience. Either you're a different species you're still going to suffer.
Greg’s childhood might have been difficult never being able to be authentically himself, but Steven is totally valid in the way he feels. Steven was emotionally and physically neglected his entire life. Not to mention he was parentified by every adult in his life.
Greg wasn’t the best dad, he didn’t have enough rules and never really hung out with steven, dumping him on a bunch of gems who had no idea how to take care of a kid. While Greg grew up being stuck with too many rules. Leading him to accidentally keep generational trauma going. In short: Make sure your kids have a balance between rules and freedom.
The problem is, is that he couldn't go to doctor because humans would run test on him. That's why he was lucky to have Connie's mom instead of some different doctor
@plant gang no, I'm pretty sure that was after Steven Universe that they were accepted, and the only people who fine with them were friends with Steven or knew Steven, who knows how anyone outside of that would've reacted pre-future
what happened to an entire island worshipping him what happened to the galaxies loving him and him getting into an offer of being accepted for a multiversal royal family he literally has friends with magical powers and he could also shapeshift into some muscular looking dude he literally has a magical pet lion and he thinks hes going through much worse than anybody else 💀
Right that’s what I’m saying lmfao like the kid literally has superpowers half alien he could turn his own life within a second if he wants to why put all of the blame on your father that has nothing to do with you?
His skeleton is covered in fractures from the multiple times he was beaten, he's been repeatedly traumatized by both his family and enemies, formed no close human social bonds outside of 2 people and can't function well in human society, all before he's 18, but sure, it's better than a normal childhood. Being a teenager with PTSD sure is fun

2. rose literally said herself she’s excited to have steven because he gets to be human. rose wanted steven to grow up and choose who he gets to be and what he does with his life. however greg saw him as gem. it was clearly showed in the song ‘dear old dad’ ‘in this world full of gems there’s none like you’. yes rose may have not handled her business but if anyone is to be held responsible it’s greg. as he was hardly in his life and just gave him to the gems, who knows nothing about what humans are and what humans do. all those gems knew was to just fight. rose wouldn’t have wanted that for steven if steven didn’t want it for himself.
No matter what anyone says I will always not like rose quartz no matter what she caused all of Stevens trauma and she just left. It doesn't matter if she wanted him to live like a human. She still left her mistakes for him..

The problem was his dad grew up with too many rules and steven grew up with absolutely no structure. It doesnt hurt to have a little of both, I rarely heard greg say no to his kid. Children need structure at a young age, they’re little and dont know the difference between whats wrong and right sometimes. And saying no to them can save them a lot of future emotional turmoil.
steven is pink diamond, so, it makes sense why greg didn't want to force steven to do anything.
@@hoosfire4270 no that’s not why, Greg didn’t know how to raise a kid and just did the opposite of what his parents did. Which not surprisingly, wasn’t right.

The point of this scene was to show that both childhoods were bad
Steven’s dad (greg) grew up with no freedom always constantly getting shamed never being able to do anything he wants while Steven grew up in a van always going through hard sittuations and dangerous missions
My problem is that I'm a UNIVERSE!"
The demayos had stability.
Exactly. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. All of this could have been prevented if Greg just took some responsibility of his child
@Terrence Thomas was it a good two minutes? Or bad? 😅

@@RjGoombes Steven needed a dad, but Greg was only ever a friend.
@@Ducilios You put it better than I ever could friend
Steven saved so many lives, including his own, because of how his dad chose to raise him
I can't believe his dad said his son had a better childhood than he did when Steven NEARLY DIED MULTIPLE TIMES AS A KID
Sounds fun to me
And didn't have half the opportunity his father had.
"You had actual freedom!"
*Steven causally getting kidnapped by gems, hurt by and almost killed many times*
👍
Yeah, when you think about it, the gems are the biggest reason Steven couldn’t have a normal life. The concept of gems just living normal on earth was unheard of that at the beginning of the show, so I doubt the Gems would let him live outside of their supervision, and they probably convinced a panicking Greg that they would know how to raise Steven (but they didn’t)
Steven's mom side was definitely the bigger issue, Greg is dead to his parents since they never mail back or even open his mails, but Steven from his mom side was psychical and mental trauma 💀

Steven’s environment all around was complex and not good for him, and I do think Greg played a large role in that.

Greg and the gems just couldn't be around each other for long, especially Pearl cause yk, Rose, who i'll forever blame more than anyone else
@@nicolaberry9550
It technically does excuse Greg from not being there.

Being robbed of a childhood is one of the worst crimes against children, forced to take on so many responsibilities at such a young age damages you more than anyone can possibly imagine
His gem is not shattering..
His heart is
You could tell he’s going through something 😳
Stress and trauma
Life is like a tree the branches the trees make us the memories you make…
-Me
I remember seeing this the first time with my Dad then a few months ago we saw it again he said he related so hard to what Greg said.
Please don't use the Lord's name as an expression,it's very wrong
@@HeartEllishe's pouring his heart out and the first thing you say is "Don't use the Lord's name in vein"?? Like I get you love God and all but it's sort of hypocrisy don't u think?
God teaches you to love and accept but you instantly brush that off. You should've said this at the end, not at the beginning
literally su was just us watching steven descend into madness over the course of years
my god i should rewatch this, i dont think i ever realized that this is a much more adult oriented continuation of a kids show
Steven is right, he was raised with too much freedom and Greg would ALWAYS say yes to everything Steven would ask him
i get Steven i got betrayed watch friends die right in front of me and my own friends betrayed me people liked to me for there own benefit i started 2 year war at my school that i didn't want and even when im right no one listens to me before it too late then i have trauma but the moment something good happens to me everyone thinks i have a perfect life
Poor Steven 🥺❤️
❤

Nah, he turned into a dick in that part
bro Steven universe use to be peak I used to watch it when I was little now it was forgotten till this short brought it up
Greg didn’t have enough freedom so he gave Steven too much freedom….reminds me of gen z’s and their parents 💀
He has been through so much even when he was a toddler. But I think the real reason Greg (Steven’s dad) didn’t make Steven go through what greg did is bc Steven might not have the easy way out of situations, but Greg didn’t have any. So he wanted Steven to make life better for himself instead of doing the same thing greg’s parents do
Steven just wanted the safety of structure and consistency :(
Bro I remember this show!
I watched it SO, SO LONG AGO like-
I used to watch this everyday but yk I grew up and they removed it but ty for bringing back-
This is the talk Toph and Lin needed…
This is so reletable for me. I never had a stable home, my childhood was in a van too, i know what he is feeling. Exactly know.
Bro went through the seven stages of grief 💀
:You grew up with actual freedrom
: I GREW UP IN A VAN
Steven has and still currently is the most relatable character for me; he was so happy, jusy wanted to help people, but he only got more pressure on him, eventually to where he felt guilty not helping, so it no longer was fun: it became a responsibility
“Great power must also come with great responsibility” Uncle Ben
Man this hits deep.
You can't even hate Greg in this situation
He had his own trauma from his family and didn't want his son to experience it, but unfortunately by doing so made Steven's life a whole lot worse
I feel bad for Steven.. cuz stevens mom rose or pink made worst descions and used there child to deal with his drama and went to court. Stevens dad is trying .
Steven Universe hit so different, especially SUF
Kids might be resentful of rules, but deep down they know they're there out of concern. What Steven is feeling is that Greg wouldn't have cared if he died because he refused to actually parent.
I feel so much the opposite of this.
My mom grew up with freedom and was allowed to do pretty much anything. What she did with it was drugs and having a baby at 18 (me.)
My mom wanted to give me a much safer life.
This edit made me watch Steven universe and it's so sad I feel bad for Steven😭
Tbh I grew up with this show
“You’re better off than I was” Does Greg seriously not understand what Steven has been through after all this time ?
Stevens mom died to have him, Greg’s mom made him meatloaf “too” consistently.
Steven literally had to dismantle a government full of space hitlers that wanted him dead, Greg had to participate in extracurricular activities he didn’t want to do.
How can you say that to a kid who’s a victim to multiple attempted murders, some by his own family, and is depended upon by thousands to even millions of aliens at the age of 17.
actually it was age 13 threw 16
Why is this a kids show 😭😭😭
Future did a really good job exploring the consequences of being a fantasy wish-fulfilment character after the BBEG is defeated.
That episode almost made me CRY😢😢😢😢
I was crying in this and Steven will always be my fav cartoom
Taco Bell has found a new janitor
Steven gave us a child hood a he never had😢💔😓
What’s. This song called? I have been searching for a long time
Inside out
Ty
Him life was better but he was a gem and his problem is with his is a universal!
The song inside out is just all I need to be happy
I kinda understand Steve's father ;-; (but I can't deny Steve got some points here)
Greg wasn’t the best dad, he didn’t have enough rules and never really hung out with steven, dumping him on a bunch of gems who had no idea how to take care of a kid. While Greg grew up being stuck with too many rules. Leading him to accidentally keep generational trauma going.
In short: Make sure your kids have a balance between rules and freedom.
It reminds me of a saying we can’t change what’s happening but we can adjust our sails
The problem is, is that he couldn't go to doctor because humans would run test on him. That's why he was lucky to have Connie's mom instead of some different doctor
In the Steven Universe Universe gemzar normal and accepted by Society for the most part
@plant gang no, I'm pretty sure that was after Steven Universe that they were accepted, and the only people who fine with them were friends with Steven or knew Steven, who knows how anyone outside of that would've reacted pre-future
he just wanted a normal life..😭🫶 BUT ANWAYS AMAZING EDIT😩
“My problem isn’t that I’m a gem”
“My problem is that I’m a universe!” Words cannot describe the amount of power that came from that line.😳
what happened to an entire island worshipping him what happened to the galaxies loving him and him getting into an offer of being accepted for a multiversal royal family he literally has friends with magical powers and he could also shapeshift into some muscular looking dude he literally has a magical pet lion and he thinks hes going through much worse than anybody else 💀
Greg: "you gre up with Actual freedom!"
Steven" *remembering everything with pink diamond and how she didn't have Actual freedom * "your just like mom"
Rose in the past in tape:"you will grow up with freedom "...
Greg, you had freedom
Steven, i grew up inside a van
I love hearing these lines ngl tbh
Steven’s problems are like baby mode compared to some of the characters I’ve seen
Trauma shouldn’t be compared though.
YOUR EDITS ARE AWSOME!
BTW; YOU ARE MY IDOL 😍
