I know this question is 7 months old. But after watching, I would assume that the extra two boards in the back allowed that extra inch so they wouldn't hang off. About to have a go at it this weekend.

If you use 1 by 5 then none would hang off @@85gilques
@@85gilquesif you use 1 by 4 then the back boards will push the ones forward a tiny bit

@@85gilques i built that and its really good as long as you only use it for regular size with a little added space for protectors
