Kandace Springs: vigorous, eclectic, subtle, velvety, sultry, jazzy, R&B, Hip hoppy, deep scenes and adventures into sweet soul, and all that makes music worth living. (Smile!)

Don't know the reason the camera setup was made so that we're looking at the back of Kandace's head instead of her beautiful face but she is very talented with a lovely voice, more success to her!

Wow! Just discovered Kandace...looove her smooth as velvet voice (has a Roberta Flack quality). Also love this song selection and piano performance. She is an ultra-talented woman (also into visual art as I understand it). Keep up the good work, lady!

What a pleasant change to have an interviewer do his research and ask some great questions, and what a voice, like Barry White asking questions. Kandace is every bit the music royalty, a genuine talent her piano playing interleaves with her voice to create something very special. Very few singers can equal her voice, maybe no other performer compares to her blend of keys and vocals. If you know of anyone, I'd like to know as performers of this quality come along very rarely.

@got2bharmony - i agree with the Barry White-esque voice quality assessment. Warm and seductive. A welcome change from the current "boulevard balladeer" and "street cred" oriented emcee/interviewer model.
As to Ms. Springs, I agree yet disagree. I'm on the same sheet with your position. But I have to lean towards Rick Johnson - Alicia Keyes has many of the same qualities, and is of equal talent/capabilities.
What sets both of these young women atop the heap is a genuine love for the music and musicians whom preceded them. While "music royalty," she dismisses the "diva" label. Personable and engaging, Ms. Springs draws you closer with both talent, skill and genuine people skills. She is truly comfortable in her skin, and with her status. This is evident in both her performance, and your evaluation. Kudos.
Like the Bassman, she loves what she does and appreciates every opportunity to do so.

Great interview with my favorite new artist!
First heard the album 'Soul Eyes' as background music in a little Italian restaurant in a mountain resort west of Tokyo. Just had to ask the waitress who that voice was, got the name, and had the CD within a couple of weeks.
'Soul Eyes' ... yes, it has some beautiful chord changes, and she has such a beautiful voice.
But 'Novocaine Heart' is what jumped out and grabbed me ... the hook, the sparse backing, the lyrics, I could go on and on about that song (and I did, in the UA-cam studio version comments). I have played N.H. probably a hundred times over the last 4 or 5 days, and it just gets better with each listen. I won't rest until I get down my own version on nylon string guitar, with Kandace as the muse, model, and inspiration. Now scouring the net for all things Kandace.
About the only thing I would have changed in the interview is the camera angle - so as to get a better look at her face. With all that hair, it was hard not to imagine her and Esperanza Spalding sharing the same stage.
And Bassman, GREAT leading questions, and YOUR voice is one I would die to have. Subscribed ... with gusto. Yoroshiku from Japan!

Steve Martin thanks for the Luv Steve. We actually shot two cameras, however the other angle had some issues so we couldn't use it. Feel free to check out the other interviews and like our follow our page at facebook.com/cooljazzcountdown

Thank you the link and explanation, Marcellus. With my late morning first cup of coffee in hand, I've followed your Facebook link and will start exploring some new jazz thanks to you.
I'm just turning 62 next month, so that helps identify my leanings weaned on pop, soft rock, and R & B ... but came of age with just about all of Miles' babes (and a bit earlier) ... Herbie, Wayne, Tony, Chick, the two Johns, etc., a smattering of eclectic fusion and more standard post-swing jazz - Oregon, Pat Metheny, Bill Evans, Mulgrew Miller, Stanley Clarke, and a lot of stuff from Brazil - Milton, Tom Jobim, Elis Regina, Toninho Horta, Ivan Lins, Airto & Flora, Edu Lobo, etc. I guess Herbie Hancock is at the top of my jazz pantheon, with Wayne Shorter and Pat Metheny close seconds.
I occasionally write abut music on Quora.com, but not a professional such as you or your guests in any way - just thoroughly addicted to good music, and 'jazz' is the most common label that describes my tastes. Looking forward to exploring a lot of new sounds through you and your crew.

Obvious her singing is is a revelation but I like her piano playing too. There is some really nice e subtle stuff going on with little filler lines and her voicings are just right.

I petitioned management for the longest time to get her here and now she's on the way. Looking forward to seeing her live. What a dynamic voice! This studio session was awesome! Thanks for sharing!
