Tokyo Disneyland's $128 Million Dollar Monsters, Inc. Dark Ride

- In the mid-2000s Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland needed a new attraction and guests were demanding a Monsters, Inc. presence in the resort, the solution would be a technologically advanced interactive dark ride that is truly one of a kind - Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek.

It's official. Everything’s better at Toyko Disneyland.
Why can’t we just give the American Disney Parks to the Oriental Land Company?
@@Ihartwalrusguy Are you sure about that? Many folks here in Japan are complaining about the place.
I must admit that I disagree. Tokyo Disney does many things better than other parks but by far not everything. I am specifically talking about the Disneyland Park there. Operations, maintanance and surely the quality of their newer attractions are superior, but looking at their older attractions and the park itself (especially their old section of their Fantasyland and Tomorrow land)...it feels very dated.
It's a great park but just keeping it real 😆
@@88tibrothe good thing about Tokyo though is that they are constantly updating things….soon enough Tomorrowland will most likely be completely refreshed…and it wouldn’t surprise me if they do the same to older parts of Fantasyland too.
PREACH IT!!
All the rides at this park are above top notch to be honest they exceed the notch scale. This is an example of how a dark ride based on a IP is done right.
7:45 the monster dissappearing behind a pillar is a fantastic illusion. The power of mirrors is insane, especially with the final big one with Boo's door
This shows that Disney has fully neglected its American parks with lack of imagination.
Lack of budget more than imagination. The Tokyo rides are designed by the same Imagineers that work on the US parks, just with very different budgets.
Walt's old line, "Give people quality, and the money will follow". Has been forgotten stateside.
Its amazing what can happen when Disney isnt the one bankrolling the projects. The Oriental Land Company pays for things like this which is why Tokyo is considered by many to be the best park
@@diggingattycho7908 Die amerikanischen Disney Parks sind aber immer noch sehr erfolgreich. Magic Kingdom in WDW ist immer noch der Themenpark mit den meisten Besuchern weltweit
Tokyo Disneyland is the last bastion of the old Disney.. Excellent, creative, and apolitical. Iger must have forgotten about it.
I really don't like interactive dark rides, but this is one of my favorite rides of all time!! Removing the competitive element, and the frustration that comes with points not registering/glitching/resetting was such a brilliant design choice. I wish more rides would opt for this type of interactivity!
All IP rides should be like this: expending the STORY of movies, letting you be part of that world, instead of passively watch the movie's story unfold. Not enough of that type out there.
The more I learn about the Tokyo Disney resort the more I want to go particularly Disney sea
you gotta, it's fantastic.
I remember watching the Imagineering documentary about this ride which was included with the Monsters Inc DVD when i was younger, and it really stuck with me! Hopefully someday I'll actually make it out to Tokyo :)
This reminds me of those old Disney CD Rom, point-and-click games, where every time you clicked on a character or object a gag would happen. Only this time it's real (for the most part).
The two way traffic through Mostropolis is absolutely amazing
The American parks could've spent this money. But indy 5 and whatever box office disaster that's coming next are priorities!!!!
Leave it to Tokyo Disney to show the world how to do Disney right!
We will definitely visit soon.
I love this ride. The car doesn’t give you time to look at every details and targets. And my excitement and how the car move makes my arm shakes so much. Sometimes it kind of difficult to know what you are targeting on
Hot Take: This ride is what Toy Story Mania should've been
No way, Toy Story Mania is great, wouldn't replace it for anything. This is Buzz Lightyear 2.0 should be.
@@kickassnetworktbh toy story mania should have better screen, otherwise I agree
I’ve ridden both the CA version and the Tokyo one. It’s not that different and yet the interactivity makes it so much more fun! There’s not even a score or anything it it’s so well done
Incredible!!!! I thought the Monsters ride in California Adventure was underwhelming.
It is. It's just also a cheap re-theme of an even worse opening day ride, look up Superstar Limo, so so bad.
Loved this video! As a fan of the original “Meet the World” show, I honestly think that Ride & Go Seek was a pretty worthy replacement.
I still wish Meet the World would of happened at Epcot though (I think it fits the Japan pavilion, and honestly I think it stinks that the Japan pavilion received no attractions after having all 4 planned attractions for that land being cancelled / never making it past concept age)
Am I the only one that sees huge LUIGI MANSION ride potential coming to Nintendo world?
The world map in the dome queue area is a tribute to the previous attraction at that location, Meet the World, which also had a map of the world on the ceiling. Also, when this attraction opened, it was not as lit and less "interactive." Changes were done after the first year to make the rooms more bright and added more interactions.
i’ve been on toy story midway mania at walt disney world & monsters inc ride & go seek at tokyo disneyland & honestly, in terms of interactive rides, they are both equally as good in my opinion, even though monsters inc has physically sets & animatronics unlike toy story which is all screens & it gives that ride something unique & special about it
Fun Fact: Imagineer Joe Lanzisero’s first project with Imagineering was animating some of the media for Meet The World, he would go on to be project leader on Monster’s Inc: Ride and Go Seek!
Crazy how the oriental land company can run a Disney park (2 of them) better than Disney can run a Disney park
Bro this ride literally looks really really good like one of the best rides I have ever seen.
I was able to ride this ride back in 2016 after seeing tons of videos for it. And needless to say, it lived up to the hype.
I wish I could have rode it more, but we had a lot of other stuff to get through that day, but still, the memories were delightful.
It’s such a big and very detailed ride! I love it way too much. Thank you so much for this video!!! Outstanding commentary!!!!!!
I loved this video! Thank you for making them.
Those animatronics are so refreshing to seee! I love em they look absolutely amazing
Thank you for mentioning the shooting rides being “done to death” at so many parks. It kind of irritates me. Lol, I mean, I just personally won’t wait in line for a ride like an interactive dark game or whatever. A shooting gallery theme, more or less. I’m just a thrill seeker I guess.. Maybe I’m weird-though not really-but if I’m riding an attraction, I want to be _ON_ a ride, either a thrill ride, roller coaster or some sort of fantastical/IP based/other dark ride and temporarily get away from it all. I want to be immersed, entertained, and even scared a little! What I don’t want is to think or calculate, even if it’s simple basic games. Guess I’m a coaster snob. But to think about targets and aiming at things, blah… what do you win at the end anyway? Haha!
It’s ironic that a company running a Disney park can do it better than Disney themselves. Simply disappointing.
I just got back from Tokyo Disney a few days ago and totally skipped this ride thinking it would just be a replica of the US version 😂
OOPS!
Your loss for sure!
I went to Tokyo Disneyland, went on Peter Pan's flight, Pirates, Space Mountain and Splash Mountain and I was immensely disappointed. There were big long waits (Splash Mountain was over 2hrs) and big thunder railroad was closed. I ended up leaving early, with no idea that I should have tried star tours or a winnie the pooh ride (or this!). I was immensely disappointed, I thought the park was way worse than the gold coast parks, I hated that it was just concrete everywhere.
But I'd bought a double pass, and I reluctantly went to DisneySea the next day, and holy crap it was the best park I'd ever been to. I think having a bad day at Tokyo Disneyland made it better, but I should have done some research and I will definitely be going back and seeing what I missed.
having ridden it, it was lit
I did get to experience this attraction, and I agree. I also really appreciate that there is no score, because that lets you just focus on having fun and seeing what effects you can trigger, instead of trying to get a high score.
Wow this ride sounds like an AMAZINGLY done interactive ride, can’t believe I’d never heard of it!
I went to tokyo disneyland 3 months ago! it was my first time ( the previous 2 visits, I only visit disneysea). the monster inc ride was amazing. it did feel overwhemling, but I had so much fun! when I watch your vid, I even miss the room trick thingy.
I always put disneyland tokyo as optional park (vs disneysea). but the monster inc, beauty and the beast, and poop hunny hunt were some of the best attractions in tokyo disney resort.
I am so glad that I took my wife to disneyland tokyo. my first disneyland was hong kong one, and it was kinda meh (esp due to 2-3 hours storm that makes all outdoor rides useless and fireworks cancelled)
Ride was cute but we were expecting a score or way to track your progress. Nice ride but still enjoy the California version better. Thank you for sharing. Nice video!
We rode this last week. Just wonderful - but I missed a lot of the effects you pointed out. I think we spent a lot of the ride wondering, 'What are these torches for? Why aren't they working?' D'oh!
Can you imagine being the team at WDI that gets shit like the Incredicoaster assigned while the team next door gets all the Oriental Land Company projects??
Aw narts! Haven’t been able to get to this one yet. Next summer, I’ll take the grandkids here!
Can’t wait to experience this attraction by myself in October
The mirror door at the end is like the portable hole in roger rabbit (also in Tokyo and DLR) correct?
This ride is great. Wish I would have appreciated it more during my last visit. It was kind of overshadowed by the impressive Pooh's Hunny Hunt.
Twice and never get to experience this ride! Maybe the third will do the charm! 😂
I feel though, the popularity is shifting towards the latest attraction, baymax and beauty and the beast.
Glad that I could try pooh hunny’s hunt with the waiting time lesser than 60minutes. It was one of the best rides
The ride cars are sooo cuteee
The mirror thing is crazy
Sigh. As usual Tokyo Disney gets the best stuff.
can you share how much sponsors are paying per rides. example is the PANASONIC monster inc. thanks and nice vids
I would have loved to see a diagram of the mirror effect with the door
Looks like Tony Salaroni and Sonny Eclipse are related!
Das Tokyo Disney Resort ist wirklich toll! Disneyland Paris ist wunderschön als Gesamtpark gestaltet, hat aber zu wenig Attraktionen
Torch instead of guns is genius
Tokyo Disneyland is leagues ahead of the American parks
it's a shame there was a contract signed that states attractions in tokyo disneyland cannot be built in other disney parks around the world :(
Does anyone know the commercial at 1:50 ?
If only the US can make a clone and bring it to DCA or even Hollywood studios!!!
Grass is always greener, as they say. Haha😅 😬
they could have built 4 Giga's for that price
AHHH it takes your photo at the end too?! STOPPP
Just for fun.
My next vacation may very well be to Japan. Orlando is getting too gross.
The park tickets are cheaper there too, so you might as well :p
Do they speak Japanese or English language at Disney japan?
Japanese, but you can request to speak to somebody in English at Guest Relations :)
Is it true that Tokyo Disneyland isn’t really Disney? Tokyo Disneyland has their own imagineers and it has a completely different level of standard that Disney has?
Same Imagineers, just a higher budget.
🐁
Reminds me of the Men In Black ride at the city part.
the dark days bit is why japan has no right ever to cry or speack on mattewr when it comes to nukes. if they wont pubilcy talk about there actions in war they can stay silent
As a Monsters Inc. lover I found this ride when I rode it last week so underwhelming. The artistry is brilliant but the flash light “game play” takes away from the experience rather than adding to it.
They should have a hall of Hiroshima, dedicated to the memory of F around and find out.
Imagineers boasting and self congratulating for a ride that is a literal copy of the ride track/experience from the 20+ year old universal studios Florida ride, men in black. Disney is great but this is not their original idea in any way
This is clearly a step up from that. Similar? Sure. Calling it a rip off of MIB is silly though
