It's a pretty good game on it's own. If you haven't played the Persona 2 games, I suggest you do. They aren't quite the same as the others, but they are still worth it.
It depends on what you are looking for. Persona 3 was the first to integrate a calandar and dating sim system, so it obviously doesn't have those in Persona 2. Persona 1 and 2 play out like pure dungeon crawlers (like the SMT games the series spun off from), the encounter rate is high, but its necessary since the "meat" of the gameplay is negotiating demons for tarot cards for Personas as well as to make use of their contracts. They forgo the grid system used in Persona 1 and simplified the elements a bit too, making it more like a standard JRPG in terms of battle, and they also added a few things such as the ability to reorder the turn order of your party as well as Fusion Spells. Lastly, I'd like to add that there are two Persona 2 games; Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment, the latter being a sequel/alternate universe of sorts to the former. Innocent Sin has been remade on the PSP, but while Eternal Punishment has also been remade, Atlus decided not to localise it (citing "unusual circumstances") and instead released the PSX version on PSN classics. If you want to play Eternal Punishment PSX, you'd have to bear the the lack of visual polish for the game menus which Innocent Sin PSP has.
Ryan Panice third person view, this game is fantastic if you follow the story and make frequent use of estoma to lower the encounter rate of low level enemies. I think that 2, 3 and 4 are all worth playing. The first hasn't aged well.
Reminds me of FF7Machinabriged when Aerith deliberately letting Tifa get poisoned by the Zolom, claiming she was out of mana despite having a full MP Bar XD

@@Kmkmkms It was my first Persona game. I'm a very new fan, finally playing persona games because of Joker in Smash, but I went back and played all of the persona games and I even played a few Shin Megami Tensei Games (Namely SMT1 & 2.) Because of this, I feel like I will always enjoy Persona 1

As much as I love the OP of Persona 2 psp, I really think there needs to be an extended version with extra animaton that includes the whole song. The second verse adds so much more meaning to the song (the first verse has the rapper asking a lot of questions, and in the second verse he answers them, conveying a feeling of "getting stronger".) In either case, I still think this would be the de facto best persona OP song if it weren't for Knights of the Holy Lance.

you know Persona 2 makes having an SP bar less annoying. You can just recover it by moving, which isn't bad as it actually limits your abilities only in battle, SP Just slows down the game if it isn't easy to recover outside of battle. Persona 2's way of dealing with SP is better than most games.

Ehh... I think that's the challenge. The later persona games stopped you from recovering for a few reasons that I personally agree with. 1.) You can just spam spells through everything and makes the game repetitive. Rather than forcing you to switch up your strategies and conserve mana for only enemies you need it on. 2.) Instakill spells become too low risk. 3.) You don't need any more healing items and resurrection ones. 4.) The final reason is that it helps limit the skills your persona can have to an extent. The reason being it forces you to want to keep multiple of the same spell, so like maragi, agi, agilao. Where if you had recoverable mana, it would make life a lot easier and you would just use Maragilao.
