I’m a trucker and have been around diesels all my life and there’s no sweeter sound than a diesel when it’s just humming along with a slight turbo whistle
Yes all i have is 03 exscursion 6.0 powerstroke bulletproof open highway cruise a long time with 44 gallon fuel tank the tuner set a bit to high but its great
Luke is definitely very knowledgeable and seems like a down to earth person. That was really nice of them to take you out and yes that is definitely an amazing boat for sure . Those engines sound great! 👍
I literally built and designed the tower on that boat. My small shop builds all the tops for cape horn. Really cool to see my creation on UA-cam! I actually didn’t know Cape ever put those motors on any of their boats
What purpose does this 'centre console' boat serve? It looks useless in a swell of over 3 metres, you would have the first wave break over your bow swamp the whole boat. It looks like a very flat bottom and lacks any major keel to keep it stable in rough weather. And most of the deck space is unsheltered, so nothing to keep the waves and rain off the passengers or cargo. Never seen a boat like this in our country.
I had first hand experience in 2016 to run OXE 300 Diesel outboard. It came with trans oil, huge torque but our boom boat was too light, it cavitated a lot. Pure genius on this outboard. Ken's Marine Capt. off did the testing for their R&D back in 2016.
I heard about these engines a while back, lovely to see them in action outwith the boating press. IMO what these engines really, really need are Sharrow Props. The noise reduction alone would make it worth while (engine noise is not the only noise a lot it is due to turbulance) let alone the better acceleration, top-end, and fuel savings.
The outboard are awesome! Was always hoping for a diesel outboard. Don’t know if it is the boat design or the engine limit…sucks that you cannot take these engines completely out of the water when pulled up.
Taking a guess; on that particular boat it appears the size of the motor prevents them from tilting up all the way for fear of the engine cover hitting the boat, so I think in an effort to make the demo run smoothly the captain tilted it as much as he was comfortable, knowing he needed room to turn, and just ran with it and tried not to call attention to it. Those are some physically large powerheads and it looks like the size is towards the bow side, just not an ideal matching for that particular boat.
I’ll be honest those diesels sounded like they were less noisy then a standard outboard engine! And Alfred you talked a little bit about the weight of these motors compared to the 200’s, do you happen to know the weight difference between these 300’s and like the 300 Suzuki’s? And brother that Cape Horn looked like a damn good looking boat!! You need to do a sea trial on one and do a complete walkthrough with the people from Cape Horn. The bad thing is that they only make like 2-3 different sizes and that’s it I believe! Great great video Alfred!! As usual my brother!!!
You got to come up to New England once in awhile splash some water on the windshield and check out this weather if you think you're cold now bro. Awesome awesome video Alfred thank you very much. You always bring the goods.🤙
It’s funny how people are amazed with diesel powered outboards…they’ve been around for over a few decades. Yanmar, Nissan as well as other manufacturers dominate the European and Asian diesel outboard market.
Did I see this boat by my house in Somerset a couple months ago at Mack Boring? I like it but twice the weight of a modern outboard makes this impossible to retrofit an older boat without seriously rebuilding the transom.
These are awesome but I'll bet they aint cheap. Now I don't want to be negative but who designed the cowlings? Couldn't they make them a bit more stylish?
Definitely the way to go using Diesel engines,I have a Yanmar it’s been pushing my 20t boat for 14years 5000 hrs only ever changed the oil and filters and alternator belts.Diesels top out at 4000 rev’s petrols 6/7 thousand no wonder diesels last so long and fuel economy is amazing.
At 2:42 in the video, he says the diesels were getting 8 miles per gallon (MPG). That's BS - when he said that, he was pointing at the 8.2 miles per HOUR (MPH) figure on his chart. At 8.2 MPH, it was getting 2.4MPG. According to his chart, the best MPG achieved was 7.4MPG at 5.2MPH. 7.4 miles per gallon is great for an outboard, but nobody is going to drive a 34' offshore boat at 5MPH all day long.
id be curious how it handled on a real boat. Cape horns aren't really known to be high quality and are made thinner and lighter than the big boys like Yellowfin, Contender, Everglades, Etc.
Didn't know you could get diesel outboard motors
first time I have seen them they just started making them.
We are getting ripped off diesel everything would be better .
Been about for years mate
I can see steam outboards comeing
The price! A 2020 OXE 300 was advertised for $60,822.
This is an incredibly important step forwards both for boaters (both pleasure and practical) and the environment. Congratulations and thank you to Oxe.
If you think that these diesel outboards are better for the environment than a modern 4 stroke petrol outboard you would be wrong
@@JohnWinzil But for fuel consumption, aka money its better. We cant have everything. 😂😂

Incredible outboards, but the cowling design has a lot to be desired.
Wow that’s awesome to see those diesel outboards roaring.. I never knew about these! Thanks Alfred for another great video brother
Nice motors! The shrouds need to be updated. Would love to see how she runs in the bay chop. Good video Alfred! Thanks for sharing!
Amazing how quiet those motors are and fuel efficient too.❤
ehh modern 4 stroke outboards are easily as quite , have much more power for the weight, and cost 1/2 the price

Great boat, great engines...not a bad video Mr Montaner.
Could you do another in January?
Looked like a blast.

The most expensive part about having engines like that is finding a diesel boat mechanic that works on outboards.
Diesel brothers already has a boat that will blow most away. But these are awesome.
Looks like two refrigerators on the back, lol

bet it kicks with that new Sharrow prop, saw they made a pair for some diesel outboards.
The people in that blow boat are pissed you keep passing throwing a wake & their rig is flopping around along with their genoa sail because of it.
would like to see them test with the sharrow pretzel props on this rig
They sound a little bit like verados with the high pitch supercharger sound.
I’ve always wondered about those engines

But what happens when there's need for authorized service in South Florida ???

No bio diesel for electronic direct cylinder injection. Bio OK for mechanical pop injection only.
Only issues with these is there aren't many dealers around. If it needs service, there likely wont be anywhere in your area to do so.
How many "Listen" and "Guys" have you count
Pleas tell me you do not have to run DEF in those Diesels
No

Interesting how loud are these comparing to Suzuki 300 or Verado V8 300.

These engines are based on BMW's 3.0L diesel engines that power a lot of their cars!
Now they should upgrade to Sharrow props then test again.
I wonder what type of emission controls these diesel have...

Love the outboard diesels. The motors that Volvo should have built instead of buying 7 Marine and then selling them.

The problem with diesel outboards is their weight
My question is what kind of emission system , do they have DPF filters on them?
They meet Tier 3 Marine diesel emissions standards, meaning no DPF or after-treatment is necessary at this hp.
@@mackboringa dpf is absolutely necessary unless you want heart disease or cancer from breathing in the fine particles
