  • Today I'm installing some new tow hooks on my F150. These Ford Performance tow hooks are a huge visual upgrade for the front of my truck. Unfortunately the install wasn't as easy as I expected. I walk you through step-by-step how to install these tow hooks and show you what you need to "cut apart" to make them work.

That's usually how my projects go too. The ones that should be easy take all day, and the ones I think will be hard end up a lot easier than I expected.

Amazing what a difference a little color can make! Adds more of a rugged heavy duty look! Nice job!👍

You could have pulled the headlights, pulled the front bumper, removed the air conditioning and radiator, pulled the engine out, remove the cab, strip down the front end of all suspension put the little rubber deflectors on and spent the next 8 months putting the truck together through a snowy winter.......or just leave them off. Seriously, I like you doing a few videos that are not about getting the kit car finished. The little jobs like taillight upgrades and tow hooks is great info.

Yea. No one is doing that!! I wanted to be realistic to what someone will do with their truck and you get it. It's not worth the extra effort to get those back in. I did buy a new pair, which if I ever go to trade the truck in with offer to Ford to install themselves. The next few weeks there will be a lot more variety on the channel. Mainly because I have a lot of other car projects to catch up on with my wife's car and I'm getting some projects done on my snowmobile. I'm planning on doing 2 videos a week though since I have a lot of vacation to use at work. One main car video a week, one side projects a week. Thanks for watching!

I like mods like this. Despite the PITA it was to get the install done, they look great and subtly make it more of 'your' truck. Nice!!

Thanks Andy. I definitely agree. A really good change that makes the truck pop a bit more. Definitely stands out more compared to the stock chrome tow hooks.

I've done this job twice on my '15 XLT Sport. I went the opposite route! Factory ones were painted & I wanted chrome. I say twice because aftermarket chrome sucks, only lasted 3 seasons in New England climate. Bought OEM 2nd time around, much better!
My advice, it's possible to remove/install without cutting rubber boots. Use a 15mm ratcheting box wrench in back & a shallow 15mm socket on a swivel up front. The rubber should deflect just enough to do so. Yes, it's still a PITA, but i respect the engineering Ford put into the design for cheating the wind!😅

You are a better DIYer than me! I struggled so hard with mine since they were so brittle. I'm in New England as well. I can see how the painted ones wouldn't last. Thanks for sharing that info of how you accessed them!

Hey no need to to be the boots at all or cut them this is a 7 minute job per side, deep well socket 15 mm in the front remove bolt loosen the back push in pull out replace with new unit. The rear bolt loosens with box wrench and a leverage pipe. No need to cut anything. Use the back bolt to realign the nut plate by looking up there or feel it with the tip of the front bolt.

I wish that was true on my truck. The plastic/rubber was so solid that there was no way I could easily push it back to get to the front bolt. Maybe it is just the fact that my truck is a few years old and seen about 5 or 6 winters and extreme temperatures.

I don’t remember but the kit might come with the little bracket you slide in. There weren’t any threads in the frame just a short bracket that holds it in with compression.

I feel your pain trying to remove those wind blocks. Such a pain in the ass.

Yep. Cut them out and not going back in. I prefer the look with them in but it is not easy as you said!
