- Joe Lindsley is a traveller and a writer, and American reporting on Chicago's WGN Radio from Ukraine each and every weekday of Russia's full-scale war. He once was protégé to Fox News founder Roger Ailes, but Lindsley escaped that frenzied world where power mattered more than truth. He came to Lviv for a Ukrainian Catholic University journalism conference on Information Overload, AI, and Responsibility. Then the Coronavirus shut down world travel, and he stayed to build a better vision for the media industry.

Joseph Lindsley is inspiring!! There are many of us around the world who support Ukraine for the insightful reasons Mr.Lindsley expresses so well. Make Ukraine and Democracy Great! 🇺🇦
Thanks Joe for mentioning that during Maidan there were no lootings, violence to nearby businesses or just random people! It was peaceful protest but people had to defend themselves when violence was used against them. So much appreciance to Joe, he understands what's happening for real and trying to explain it to others, respect this man
The Maidan protests were so different from Occupy or The Arab (False) Spring or most of the recent college protestors. Maidan was not a wild mob or a bunch of kidiots trying to score social capital. Maidan was all about people who wanted to be free. There was nothing performative about it. I’ve seen the same character in the Georgian protests.
@@GrahamCStrouse exactly, I don't want people to mistake it. You right about Georgian protests now, the same spirit was in Hong Kong but sadly they didn't succeed
Joe Lindsley is the best foreign journalist and reporter in Ukraine that I know of, because he is so connected with people, spirit and culture of Ukrainians. He even understands the "ghost" of Maidan. When at the slightest dissatisfaction of the people government changes their original intentions. It is hard to do it during the war, but even during the war this spirit is still pretty much alive.
Agree with y’all! Ukrainians have shown us all what a determined people can do for their future. We have perhaps forgotten that freedom is not free at all. Texans are with the Ukrainian people. Stay the course. Fight and win.
Thank you for this conversation with Joseph Lindsley. Your guest said a word which I have been searching for, to describe the current lack of political willpower in the west. Comfort is the word. We in the west are way to comfortable in our lives and we value this comfort above the lives of others. Slava Ukraini. Free AZOV and VPDFO.
Mr. Lindsley talk about the meaning and value of freedom is a very good point.
We need more people like this. Thank you.
May the Brave and Righteous Iryna 'Cheka' Tsybukh be remembered as a Joan of Arc of Ukraine. RIP
Heroyam slava!
Lest we forget…🌺🇺🇦🇺🇦
Jonathan is an amazing journalist. I appreciate his interviews more than I can say
I appreciate Joseph's {and Jonathan's} passion
for truth justice and the goodness in people
Me too. It's uplifting knowing that there are people who care.
Great interview
Love the explanation of Ukraine people
So admire this spirit.
This interview is PACKED with cultural insights!!
💯🎯‼️
WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS THE TRUTH, AMERICA NEEDS TO SEE THIS IT NEEDS TO COME TO AMERICA.
I will never fail to tune into updates and stories about the war in Ukraine. Remaining informed and being able to speak intelligently to my family and friends about the war in Ukraine is the absolute least I can do to support Ukraine in their efforts to free their country from the Russian aggression.
Speaking truth in the face of Russian propaganda helps to keep the support going in a country so far away.
You might want to look for your updates elsewhere because if you're feeding your family this you're feeding them 100% lies
Another fantastic conversation! Героїні слава!

Thanks for having Joe on. Great show. Slava Ukraine. 🇺🇦
You have some of the most, most interesting guests bringing diverse and stimulating thoughts to your audience. Thank you, my thanks to them. Slava Ukraine!
Hopefully Joe's daily reports on Ukraine will help turn the tide in the red states that his broadcast reach away from Trump's idea that Russia can do what ever it wants! Thank you for having him on the show! Perhaps some of his listeners will subscribe to your channel and push you over 100,000 mark! Best education anyone can get on what is really going on in Ukraine!
Great interview. Thank you! 🙏🇺🇦

Love the depth of feeling expressed
Medieval styled pictures in Joe’s stories were definitely a boost in attracting attention
Even before starting the video I have to drop a comment. Because I cannot do anything wrong having those two legends of UA reporting the next 60min in front of me!
Great to see Joe Linsley every time he gets online! Have missed his regular segment on TVP World with Rock Rachon, but Jonathan even had the Rock himself on! 😀
Just great broadcasting!! xxx
Rock Rachon now has English-speaking YT channel, RockRachon, and Joe Lindsley still appears there now and then! Lindsley and Rachon great reporting!
@@ActionThisDay Yes and please support him! Michael Rachon has his own very individual style, and I like it.
Thanks, Jonathan for sharing your platform with Joe. His tenacity and advocacy are inspiring!
Thanks for bringing Joe into your Channel
Thank you so much for this. I certainly am unable to stop seeing this as the eternal struggle for freedom against those who are determined to take it away.
Glory to Ukraine, the heart of Democracy in the 21st Century 💛💙
yep, that's the upshot of this particular invasion, it's so transparent bcuz the entire Ru/ussr way of doing all things was always constant chaotic deception, grandiosity and theatrics; And due to cameras in everyone's hands, it was very easy to document their atrocities early on in invasion, and then ongoingly even worse, the torture of individuals, including up to half the population of an entire medium sized city of Kherson (large by many countries' scales. The scale is absolutely almost beyond anything the third reich did in cities of such size. Ru must be contained, one way or another.
It's also really good to see that mid western Americans still have a great interest in the Ukraine conflict and are willing to support the Ukrainian people's desire to live in a democratic society. I hope that lots of Americans will watch this podcast and continue to support the rights of other people in different nations around the world to aspire to and seek to live in a free and democratic society.
I have said it before but I will say it again. Thankyou for your sane content and your ability to shovel all the shit to one side.
What a beautiful way to put it: “Tradition and tolerance are woven together in Ukraine.” 🥲🙏🤗
💛💙💜💙💛 a few days late, but here I am, listening uninterrupted 😊

Thank you, Jonathan and Joseph Lindsley, for your conversation.
🇺🇦 Перемоги і миру всім українцям! 🇺🇦
Excellent interviews thank you!
🇺🇦🇺🇸🇺🇦🇺🇸 great work, Jonathan 🙏
I have so much respect for Joe and his mission in Ukraine. I've voiced differences with him in the comments section of his UA-cam channel at times, but Joe seems to welcome that kind of dialogue. Truth is, I'm a little jealous of Joe. I wish I were a younger man again, off seeking truth, adventure, and a shared experience with people he clearly cares a great deal about.
The Will to be Free. Powerfull concept
You give me hope, thank you.
Hello from 🇺🇲, Jonathan and Joe. So grateful for your videos everyday!! I can't be in 🇺🇦 but my ❤ has been there since February 24 2022. We need more people to understand the truth of what's happening in Ukraine, to truly be well informed bc this isn't only Ukraines battle...it's a battle for Freedom, for Independence, to stop the demonic oppression and genocide of peaceful, freedom loving people who value Life...if it isn't stopped, it will spread to TWWW!!! We must stand together, united in Solidarity in a reighteous and holy battle for FREEDOM!!! TOGETHER, WE WILL WIN!!! SLAVA UKRAINI!!! 🇺🇲🇺🇦👱♀️🛐🏆🕊💛💙❤️🤍💙
👍👍👍🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
Ukraine gives me hope and inspiration. We should all spend a part of each day recognizing, appreciating and valuing the sacrifice that these people are making for the reality of freedom.
Thank you both for this insightful conversation. Your journalism is currently crucial because you both are warriors who are fight on the information frontline (the other frontline) that has been exploited by propaganda from kremlin. Knowledge is power but misinformed knowledge is a disaster.
He is such a beautiful American defender. Thanks for sharing Joseph Lindsley.
It looks like we're collapsing, but our democracy is just heading out into choppy water 🌊. I'm old enough to remember Watergate, Nixon resigning, massive Vietnam war protests, the nuclear scare, many parts of our cities on fire from riots, and we survived that and even made progress. Today's problems are different but not insurmountable, keep the faith in democracy. 🗽
This is a external problem now. Maiden split the Country with Russian help. If they were united. There would be no overthrow
I spend at least 5 hours every day watching Ukraine news.
Absolutely inspiring!!!
Thank you Jonathan. Another fascinating interview giving us yet another perspective on the war in Ukraine. Is your freedom worth enough to you that you would be prepared to die defending it? Ukrainians do and are forced to beg to get the tools to do it. Afghans didn't even try (yes I know that's a generality) and the West spent billions. and more importantly, the lives of servicemen and women whose personal freedom wasn't on the line.
America was attacked by Afghanistan so we went in and tried to take them out and make sure the country had a friendly government that wouldn’t allow terrorist to stay on the other hand Russia hasn’t invaded America and Ukraine fall in their hands isn’t going to effect us economically so why bother.
I’m not fed up. I listen every day 🙂
Respect ❤
Thanks again
Oh wow! Not often that I open a YT video and get so excited!! Cannot wait to watch it, thank you Jonathan❤
More inspiring content from Joseph Linsley.
👍🏻Jonathan 👍🏻
If we lose interest ,that's on us and our commitment to freedom .....the ability to choose ...not the absence of an abuser / invader / dominator......true freedom has qualities of creative power and survival power and Ukrainians, on the whole ,have that ....
Great talk, there really is objective evil intent, visible for the blatant neglect of the value of human lives freedom and the right for self determination
I’m so grateful to Jo Lindsley , to Jonathan, all people that are helping Ucraine . May be blessed forever together with our defenders at the frontline 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
SLAVA UKRAINI 🤘🔥
Great chat love Jo mega good dude keep the content coming Jonathan always super interesting
👍👍👍
That was a wonderful conversation that kept me totally engaged
WHAT YOU ARE DOING IT HELPS UKRAINE, PLEASE KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
Terrorist Todler Tantrum - that put a smile on my face - loving your vods, lots to learn from your guests - keep 'em coming!
We need a new, or at least reformed NATO. It’s clear that the USA has an ambivalent (to put it politely) attitude towards Russia, now that it is no longer an ideological or direct military threat.
They want to "dans" with Russia...
Britain needs to be brave and go in to help. US is to far away
@@americasfavoritebrazilian2399 America has machines that can fly through the air like birds, only bigger. I believe they used them in their recent interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Other countries may have them too.
Slava Ukraini
Amazing, amazing, amazing. Thank you for this.
I think you’re both describing me. I wish I could meet people for coffee and Ukraine!
The name of the woman in the Bundestag who made the commentary about a Western plane shooting down a Russian plane ("That's one Russian plane less") is Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, one of the staunchest supporters of Ukraine in Germany. She is the best!
thanks for the info!
Chicago has huge numbers of people whose grandparents fled Poland. My niece has a trunk that went through Ellis Island, husband’s family. There were even Polish language neighborhood newspapers, not that long ago.
Whereas in Ukraine, roads cratered by bombs get resurfaced within 24 hours, in the UK, we have to suffer potholes for years before they get repaired.
We South Africans simply repair the potholes ourselves.
Look. I am Ukrainian and that’s not true. Most of our highways and roads are in horrible condition. Maybe roads in the cities after missile or bomb attacks get repaired quickly to restore traffic but that’s exceptions.
Thanks for this interesting conversation. I wanted to add a reminder that protesters during Maidan literally fought battles with security forces, and at the end government loosed snipers against civilian protestors, with the "100 of the skies" casualties being commemorated with an annual celebration. Once the revolution was "over" in the city square, the same people took arms in Donbass. I would not say it was a "people not burning down their city" type of deal. While it was certainly a unifying and colourful protest, the corrupt politicians in power litterally tried to drown it in blood.
Excellent show!
Wow! Wonderful conversation, loved your insights Joseph, looking at the bigger picture, understanding the local mood and use of passive voice by other reporters. Sounds as though there will be a thesis or book one day. Jonathan thank you for always finding such interesting guests!
Impressive inclusions to make a significantly interesting point🎉
Thanks for sharing your experience from Ukraine! 💙💛
Thank you for this conversation. Such an insight into how Ukrainian people are feeling.
Joe, (bleep) Joe Lindsley 😁😁😁🏴☠️🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
I would love to find out if his show is syndicated, so we all can listen to it in our local radio stations. Will you please ask him to do that if it isn't already please? Another great show thanks.
For me it's all about the children. Never forget all of the Russians who abused children and their families in Ukraine. From the mass graves (in Izium) to the stolen children. Now if Ukrainian parents don't become Russian citizens and go to flight against their brothers and cousins Russia will take their newborn children at birth.
Speaking of Izium. What did those 414 people see? The Russians thought it was better to murder them and bury them all in a mass grave instead of letting them testify. Whatever they saw must have been truly horrific. At minimum I'm guessing rape and torture.
If Russia want's to sign😅 a treaty they must first prove they will stand by one. If Russia wants to negotiate, start with your original written agreement. Pull back all of their troops back behind their original boarder and then you can start negotiations. If they don't show they will honor the original agreement how can you expect them to honor any further agreements.
It's our war to lose. Russia can NOT win. Unless we choose to not support Ukraine of course. It is on us in the global West to pick the world we want to live in. Choose wisely. Thanks.
Glory to Ukraine. God Bless Ukraine and her people. 🇺🇦🇺🇸
You can find Joe's videos on UA-cam.
The Maidan revolution was successful because it wasn't peaceful. If it had remained peaceful, it would have been drowned in blood just like every protest in Syria, Libya, Iran and Belarus. Instead, there was organized combat, and the Right Sector prevailed. This is the story that is often ignored.
I appreciate Joe Lindsley, but he's wrong here. Unarmed protests don't work against armed regimes. That's why there are Georgian and Belarusian units fighting in Ukraine right now. They know they will have to organize armed revolutions to rid their countries of their overlords. Absent external pressures, only violence brings down dictators.
This "authoritarian toolkit" is so real and is spreading mainly by social media and with social media billionaires corporations incentives. We don't even have the awareness necessary to begin to build countermesures against it.
Thanks!
Interesting
I guess it works if we hear about it on the news
Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, member of the präsidium of the FDP
Thanks for your work
Mr Lindsley is a journalist who carries forward the muckraking tradition of Chicago greats like Upton Sinclair rather well. He came to Eastern Europe to find muck but instead found, surprisingly, the muck in modern Europe is almost always tinged Russian in colour, except for instances of bungled Western aid to Ukraine to fight Russia and poor Western strategies to deal with Russia. Great guest!
I disagree. Joe is a friend… he doesn’t go anywhere to find muck… he mines for the good in others and practices getting shit done … nuff said
Return visit, thank you.
We are all humans and when a danger is felt, ve bury our head in the sand, we don' t want our little lives to be disturbed, I try everyday, all day, to peruade those persons to look at Ukraine, with my small means, but It starts like that.Save democracy.I can't end this message like I did before, because they disappear
🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
When the guest shared his thoughts about Ukrainians, I remembered a video with Boris Nemzov (Russian opposition leader killed by Putin), where he also talked about Ukrainians. This is not a direct quote, but it is close to the original: “Ukrainians have no respect, piety, or servility towards authorities. When Putin, or even the Western leader, enters the room, everyone rises and stands straight. When the Ukrainian President or prime minister enters the room, no one rises. I asked them: Why are you not rising? - Why would we? - they replied. Who are they that we should rise? Just another Hetman (top political/military leader in Ukrainian Kozak history). We are all Hetmans.”
"Where there are two Ukrainians there are three Hetmans" ) Ukrainian folk saying.
Frankly, I've seen even the New York Times use the "passive" voice & have quit reading it
I practiced criminal defense law for 15 years, and that trial was a sham, the judge was obviously biased - and I've tried cases in front of biased judges, and watched their sullen, angry, and chambers-door-slamming temper tantrums when the jury came back and acquitted my client. Been there, done that. There's enough abuse of discretion and reversible error in that case to sink that conviction in any neutral tribunal. I don't particularly care for Trump's stated policies, and have never voted for him, but that trial was just shameful, a dark day in American jurisprudence.
❤🇫🇮
This info bubble is real- we must get out of it somehow - many more people need to see through this without their comfy lenses of isolationism.
When I think of Ukraine and demonstration I think of Wat Tyler and the peasants of England facing down King Richard II in 1381.
39:28 We learned in grade school how passive voice is weak, today’s media journalists are not skilled writers.
All democracies will be challenged as long as we keep losing investigative reporters due to funding loss from circulated print. Especially in rural areas. Who will check corruption?
I hope it doesn't take a huge disaster to bring Americans together.....but it might.
Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦. Your folks are prayed for every day.🙏🏻🇺🇸
Was the Maidan informed by the brutal history of Ukraine from Russian revolution to Stalin's famines of the 1930s to WW2. The spirit of the people revealed and condensed at the Maidan seems to still be active across Ukraine today.
People who know their history are more likely to choose well between democracy and authoritarians.
One more song for Cheka!
How do free people look for a cause? The youngsters do that. Palestine etc. but the oldsters might find a ‘justified’ divorce. Etc
