Your timing is a bit off for your point. At 3:41 we see how this map is *entirely* off. In fact, the point for Omaha, NEBRASKA should be just ever so barely West of the MO River that borders the state with Iowa to its east. And the point of Kansas City should be almost *right* on the border between Kansas and Missouri
@@Love2Musgrave tbh, I'm a fan of any team that plays fundamental basketball. But if I had to throw some teams out there. Before now the bulls, knicks, lakers, trailblazers, spurs, and pistons. Now the bucks, nuggets, & I'm leaning towards throwing the mavs in there. I'd watch more games if they allowed these guys to play defense
Error 3:00 mark The lakers did not start in Minnesota but in Detroit as The Gems. Gems were brought by Mr Berger. To not to have start a new roster from zero
Weird to think that if Minnesota had stuck with the name "Blizzard", the Raptors could have revived the Huskies name from the '40s. Instead of Jurassic Park, we'd have the Dog Park.
I notice that when talking about the Charlotte Hornets you didn’t really give the reason for why the name is what it is. The name isn’t as much as a novelty as some of the teams. It has large historical reasons similar to how the Pistons, Knicks or 76ers do. The name is historically tied to the region and the city via the British Generals Cornwallis and Tarleton during the American Revolution. The Generals both described Charlotte and the surrounding counties in NC as hot spots of rebellion. The tradition upheld in Charlotte is that Cornwallis called the city a “Hornets Nest” of rebellion. The police badge of the city is in the shape of a hornet nest and the county the city is in has a hornets nest on its court seal. Native and non-native charlotteans seem to be unaware to this history that runs deep but I think the Hornets are a real symbol for the people native to the city of Charlotte and gave another reason to dislike the moving of the team. Just thought I would share. Thanks.
Hawks fan here with something to add: Despite originally named after the local Indian hero, when moving to Atlanta, we do not need to change our names as Atlanta is one of the aviation centers and a hawk happens to symbolize a plane, both being high up in the sky.
Not mentioned is how the Pelicans were almost called the Krewe. It is the local term for event organizers of parades and carnivals in New Orleans especially for Mardi Gras, and I WILL FOREVER HATE HOW THEY DISREGARDED THIS AMAZING AND LOCALLY SPECIFIC NAME FOR A FREAKING AQUATIC BIRD.
I know I only a few seconds in the video but I would like to point out that Toronto has been a part of the nba longer then most teams. That really blows my mind.
6:09 So to disassociate the team from the stigma of gun violence and crime they went from the Washington Bullets to just the Bullets because of the stigma of crime in our nation’s capital!!
The Miami Floridians was actually an ABA team from 1968 to 1972. The Heat have actually worn their jerseys before. Their colors were pink, orange, and black. I don’t think they were very good and they were largely forgotten. They played at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Interesting that it was reconsidered for the 1988 team, it’s definitely a cool name imo. We are proud Floridians. Glad they stuck with the Heat though, so much better and fitting to how hot it gets here. The Sun Tans are terrible. An interesting alternate name for them could be the Miami Money lol, imagine that. Makes sense now with how many millionaires and some billionaires that live in Miami. And how expensive everything is here, I live here so I know lol.
@14:58 neglects to mention that the hornets nest is a symbol in the Charlotte area, supposedly dating back to the 1780s when the locals fought with the British army.
Agreed. But then what would Utah call themselves? The Mormons? The Dry State? The Place Where Other Teams Hate to Play Because It's Got No Strip Clubs?
As a Jazz fan who grew up in Utah, hell no. We keep that name as a source of pride. We were able to make a team named The Jazz work when New Orleans couldn't
NBA was originally binational as one of the original teams was the Toronto Huskies, and they hosted the first NBA game in Toronto verses NY. It's kind of erased from history that the first NBA game was in Canada
BONUS🎉 The Minnesota Lakers now known as the L.A. was originally bought from a team from Detroit called the Detroit Gems then moved to Minnesota but the Detroit Gems was not part of the original BAA the Detroit Falcons was so this is just bonus info
This video has some false info like the lakers was bought from a team in Detroit called Detroit Gems then move to Minnesota and changed the name to the lakers
You didn’t explain the meaning of the name Charlotte Hornets. It comes from General Cornwallis during the revolutionary war, where he described the North Carolina militia as a swarm of hornets.
I just want you to know that when you got to the part of relocating the GSW to California, you kinda showed a picture of Massachusetts instead of Pennsylvania.
Bro that map....if you want to do an informational video where geography plays a part in the information: Know the geography. But the Miami Floridians would have been the PERFECT name. Especially with what Florida is today.
lol!! You must be young. That wasn’t that long ago. Kevin Durant played for the Sonics. The Sonics were a staple of the league. I have no ties to that part of the country, but I hope at some point they expand to Seattle and they can get the SuperSonics name back
