- Hi I’m a farrier from the U.K. Today I will be trimming a Shetland pony with extremely long hooves. We are now putting her under a trimming plan so her feet will get better each time.
Please note this is a rescue pony.
Don’t forget to like and subscribe to my channel as I upload horse shoeing and trimming videos on a regular basis.
Hope you have a great day and I’ll see you on the next video 🤙
Heartwarming to see compassionate people out there. And well done you for your patient approach to Addies hoof trim. 🥰
Thank you. They are really doing a good thing for these pony’s.
So happy the new owners realized the need for good foot care for these ponies. I look forward to updates if you return for future hoof maintenance. 🐴
They are really good owners. I have trimmed for them for years now i am sure they are in good hands now.
Thanks for caring so much, nice trim btw. Enjoy your day
Aww poor baby and good on the new owners for getting you out immediately. How can people not get a farrier out for a trim. Doesn’t cost much instead they would rather then get into this state. Poor little girl. Well done on making them look like hooves again. And pat on the back to the new owners ❤❤
I have a lot of respect for them and what they are doing. I know they will do the best for them.
All the luck in the world. I take it with you saying them there is more than one that they have taken in ? X
She has taken on four of them. It is really good of her to help these little guys out.
I think owners should calculate a budget fr horses and other livestock animals so they can be assured to be able to give them the best.
Love to see rescued ponies getting the care they need from compassionate people.
I’m grateful the ponies are safe and in a good place. Looks so much better. Good job.
I don't understand how people can let an equine's hooves get this bad; I'm so glad the new owners hired you. Thank you for helping this pony, I guarantee she appreciates it!
what a sweet little pony. you are so patient and kind with her. just wanted to say aswell that it’s much nicer to have you back in the videos talking! your personality is too nice to be hidden behind the camera the whole time!😊
To the owners of these gorgeous Shetland Ponies, thank you very much for helping them and I wish you all the best in the future.
It looks a bit difficult when you have to use one hand to hold the tiny foot, and then only have one hand for the nippers!
It can be a bit more difficult this way. But they are a lot more comfortable in this position so it is a trade off that is worth it.
Always appreciate the compassion and kindness you show while shoeing.
The new owners have a bit of work ahead of them. I didn’t get a great look but maybe still have cresty neck? Not sure. Either way an educated owner with a great team should give the ponies their best life.
Such kind people to have rescued these ponies. They will be much happier now that you have trimmed the up! 🐎
Such little hoofs!
Your work is impeccable. I'm so glad this cute little guy is with people that will care for him properly. I applaud their dedication and commitment to helping these animals and improving their lives. Kudos!
And to the lovely people who saved these ponies, you are heroes! No matter how things turn out, you’ve done these guys a huge service just by trying. Wishing you the very best!!
Care=love
Love\=care
The time and effort they have put into these little pony season real, and it is a real credit to them. When they first got them, they could not even be caught to help them.
It's so good that you and the people who got them are helping them.
Hard to understand how someone could pay a pretty penny for an animal, only to not pay to maintain it. It’s no different from investing in a car, a house, etc. except…. It’s also alive and feels pain and sadness. Just don’t get it 😔 why but it in the first place?

Great job and professional as usual - they look alot better!
No doubt the wee pony was alarmed when trying to stand on part of the hoof that had been trimmed away. I can only imagine how peculiar it might feel - imagine standing there in a pair of stiletto heels, and after 1 foot is trimmed, you are now in a flat sandal!
Another tough job for you, and another great result 😊
If people cleaned the hooves on a regular basis, they would know when they have an issue with one of their animals. They certainly wouldn’t want their feet to be neglected!!
Maybe loop knife would be better in this case?
Beautiful job Peter. Thanks to the new owners also. ❤
Poor pony! Im glad the world has people who are genuine and caring enough to help out animals like this. Those feet looked so uncomfortable. Keep us posted on the progress x
I have question how the wild horses and other animal in the wild dont have any issue with their hoof????
@@Saeid415 Wild horses have to travel miles over varied and rough terrain to find enough grazing, and water. Remember, they usually travel in herds, so they will eat an area down and have to find a new area while the one they grazed recovers. Meanwhile, Nature doesn't always place water conveniently next to a meadow, so now they have to travel for water as well. Growth wears off from all the travelling. More likely hoof insults would be uneven wear, usually on the lateral side, and with age, degenerative developments like sidebone will slow them down. And of course, Nature conveniently provides Preditors to pick off the lame and the infirm. Meanwhile, 'back at the Ranch', where the domestic horse stands around all day, getting overfed and under used, growing overweight and under cared for, hoof wise, the feet spread, develop flares, stand in mud and get thrush, the flares crack and grow into quarter cracks, under-educated Owners turn their animals out on Spring grass after months of winter hay, and the horse gets laminitis. The flared feet open issues between the wall and the sole into which dirt and manure get pressed, the body heat incubates the infectious spores in the crack, and now you have white line disease. The list goes on, but you get the drift.
Brilliant job, as always
Awesome Awesome Awesome 🌻🌾🇿🇦
Good for these guys taking the ponies on
I always find it sad how much hoof wall they have to lose in the front due to how deformed the hoof grew. Great job man.
Cute little feet, I’d love to see her walk. Bet she feels so much better.❤
Glad the pony is in a good place now!
Aww I really love how this pony got good hoof care and is now in better hands! Would've liked to have seen all 4 hooves "after" and walking better but then I get too invested lol!
Viewers should take note to the owners' tone and comment when you first mentioned laminitis. New owner was saddened to hear the sweet baby had suffered. Thank you both for caring for this wee one.
Well done
Would like to see an update on trimming
This horse going forward.
Thankyou
Oh my days, how could anyone let this happen, that was so horrible for her, such a lovely little pony, and her little tootsies compared to your hands, so cute, thank you so much to the new owners for getting her the help she desperately needed, and a big thank you to you kind sir for coming to her aid quickly, she will feel like a new pony, excellent job, thank you for posting, absolutely love your channel, and take care.👍💙🐴
Appreciate you keep coming back to the videos. I am glad they are with the new owner now. I know she will take good care of them.
@@Peterthefarrier will always love your videos, I just love horses so much🇦🇺
@@Peterthefarrier sorry pressed the send button too early, and I appreciate your hard, back breaking work, thank you so very much.👍💙
I love that you said tootsies 😊
@@StratospheralNurse 😁
Random question that will probably never be seen and answered but can rasps be sharpened or do they have to get replaced when dull
Every time I see these overgrown pony hooves on your channel, I just imagine some hapless parents getting their kid a pony without any idea that they need regular and expensive care. "It'll keep the grass short, practically pays for itself."
Well I bet them ponIes feel good now, thank y'all for loving your animals god bless you.stay safe
The new owner(s) is really great for putting the pony's feet first. That is usually the first thing that is overlooked by someone, thinking that ponies don't get their feet trimmed in the wild, so that's not a priority when they are kept in a pasture/stable environment. The long feet have a tendency to throw the pony off balance or cause strains.
I really appreciate your taking time to let the pony settle before continuing the trim, also.
Please let us know how future trims turn out.
Not a farrier, but why do you file down so much of the outside hoof wall? I thought that was something to avoid
The hoof wall has distorted out of what you would consider normality. It needed dressing forward to take it back in to line with distal phalanx.
@@Peterthefarrier Thank you for the clarification
Will the laminitis affected hoof grow out?
Thanks for your videos and insight! I’m a new farrier and love all the content and inspiration that you provide, cheers!
Thanks mate appreciate it. Not sure about me being inspirational but if you want to chat horses and work let me know.
You did such a nice job of getting those feet back in shape. I’m so glad the rescue called you in.
I was going to ask the same
I'm sure sometimes it does get tiresome for them and they get annoyed lolol
Thank you for helping these sweet ponies and their new “guardians “!
Sad to see neglect like that.
You did a wonderful job!!
It looks like wood at the bottom of his hoof.
Really good job on those pony hooves.
Perfect!!!
I have question how the wild horses and other animal in the wild dont have any issue with their hoof????
Horses that live wild travel for miles every day and wear their feet naturally. Ones with bad feet tend not to survive
Nice job!
Poor baby! It's so sad that people keep those creatures neglected, with no love and care. It's really heartbreaking. Happily there are also people who rescue them, love them and take good care of them. You are one of them. Keep up the good work. Always looking forward to watchng more of your videos. Good Luck. Regards from Cyprud❤
I could watch another video of you doing her back feet it is so interesting. Good luck new owners! Addie is so lucky to have you!
Way more humanely \ professionally done compared to the chinese videos.
I'm so glad new folks are looking out for those ponies. So many of the little guys are neglected due to ignorance.
Good luck to the new owners! So glad the babies will get fixed up!
Thank the new owners for caring for these ponies. It takes someone special to take on an animal that has been neglected as bad as that pony has.
Wow…that was a lot of hard work. Amazing transformation.
Bless you and them for helping these sweet babies.
Thank the new owners and to your special care.
Whomever they rescued her from need to be charged
