Thank you for doing this video David & Team. Very well put together and I believe the information will be valuable to anybody who needs help with disability. Thank you!
Thanks Rob! You were are wonderful guest and will be a tough act to follow!! I have warned the other people we are interviewing. Keep up your good work and we wish you all the best!
Absolutely phenomenal information. After every video that I watch on your channels, my hearts fill out with prayers for you. God bless you for providing this information to the disabled community
Thanks first and foremost, there is a lot that rings clear to me in this video and that I relate to. Yes it is certainly a journey and I was just talking to a friend about my situation and she made the same comment which i understood but at the same time i actually really didnt see the magnitude. I have had to fight my whole, its always just been the way and I am not laying down. I really hope that magic pill or procedure gets developed.
Very good interview totally what you have to do! I went through all the things he described and several rehabs and had to psychologically give myself permission too stop work and be persistently sell yourself that meet’s criteria.
Same, had to get my dr to add reports to my application. Not my whole file but she left out so much. I've had the DTC since 2009 so have a severe and prolonged impairment on record. Continued working to almost 2020. I would think many , including myself, believe CPP would just go and read our files if they needed more infor as you check a box giving them permission to do so?? I was just trying to make it easy for them by having my dr add reports to the application, 😂. Sadly my RRSP are almost exhausted and still have one more yr to OAS. Hopefully they will go back to 2021 as that's the day I put as no longer able to work. Thank you and Rob for the great informative video.
Great testimony, I can relate well being 63 I’ve been on CPP since 2002 with grand-mal seizures I have been on CPP disability and was also on private disability until I just turned 63 then my private has been cut off because I worked in Canada but the company was American owned and I was told we no longer pay after 63
That could be true. Consider getting our firm or another lawyer to review the letter from your insurance company. It's possible they are misleading you about the end date. Or it could be that it ends at age 63. That is an odd age for it to end, unless it lines up with you taking a retirement pension through your work. You can contact our office for a free consultation
My private LTD erquired me to apply for CPPDisability; and private LTD will end when I turn 65; then it will be CPP only plus my RRSP and GICs; and applying for OAS and GIS if eligible
I got the DTC in '09 after a being dx with cervical myelopathy. Saved me a lot in income tax as I worked for 10+yrs after. Not sure how much it helps to have now that I'm unable to work.
I applied for both ODSP and CPP. I got denied twice by ODSP, but got approved on the first time with CPPD. I did mostly everything on my own, with the help of my mother for some paperwork. It took around 7 months, from the time of filing the application, getting the doctor to fax papers off, to the approval. Getting that phone call from CPPD, hearing you're approved is a great feeling.
I am on a long term disability and my insurance will stop soon. Then I found there is CCPD. I even did not know anything about CCPD. You mentioned I need to try to work but I just can not because of pain. This case they will understand?
Isn’t sending the entire medical file risky because they could potentially find red flags ( like abandoning a treatment recommendation because it just wasn’t working or required you to go to another city repeatedly and was just unmanageable)?
I did get it first try so many problems cancer was the big one. I was at the point didn't care anymore still almost homeless the amount I get try living on $1,000 a month I had a break down. All long watching our country give millions away to other places in the world I still have days I don't care what happens to me
I was looking short term disability and accidentally I found your channel 🙂 I am a daycare provider and I diagnosed full thickened rotatator cuff tear and next week I’m going for surgery but my Dr delayed and tried convincing me to change my job all this period when I was complaining that I can’t use my right hand so I started using my left hand and when I ask my Dr for left hand MRI. Unfortunately my MRI showed tear in my left arm too. Now my both rotator cuff need surgery (even after surgery I can’t continue my job because I can’t do heavy lifting ) I have no idea if I’m eligible for CPP short term or long term disability
To be eligible for long-term disability you would need to have benefits through a group policy through your work. It is possible you could qualify for workers compensation if the injuries were work-related. You might qualify for CPP disability if you are going to be out of the workforce permanently. I had a stroke. My OT said I should apply for CPP disability. Would this be a criteria? Do people who had strokes get CPP disability? I’m not whet I was before the stroke but I am still weakened
Ugh, yet another person with a work accident connection. I'll stop there as you're maybe beginning to hate me posting my hate for Canada's workers compensation board, 😂.WCB should be the ones taking care of workers that are injured longterm. At least a partial payment if it's unclear the accident caused the injured worker to be unable to work. I was already a worker with a disability, which was imo used against me. What a way to treat our vulnerable.
I’m currently on LTD with my insurance company and going through all the normal processes. I have been approved 2 months ago, for 3 months. I’m hearing talks of a return to work attempt lately (I disagree with it, but will listen to recommendations 100% and be likeable!). I’m wondering when my claims change of definition happens, if they can send me to any job, even if it’s $12 000/year for example. I was making around $200 000/year before Illness struck seriously. Can the insurance company force me to accept a new lower paying job regardless of the pay? Thank you!
This is a great question. It will all depend on the wording of your insurance policy. The definition for disability from "any occupation" is very nuanced and different from policy to policy. It is possible you would still qualify for long-term disability insurance benefits even if you were capable of earning $12,000 per year. You should definitely get specific legal advice on this. Cpp disability was easy to get. DTC has been tuff.

I got mine after a stroke in Jan 2019; no CPP disability problems/issues yet

Greeting from The Hawk on Cape Sable Island. Glad I found this as my Ankylosing Spondylitis has been kicking my ass lately
