Did you notice that the cartoons mirror what's happening in the movie? The first cartoon we see plays for a few seconds while the family is out getting Kevin some medical attention after he (was pushed) fell down the stairs, then turns off right before they return. The cartoon is called "Prest-O Change-O," in which two puppies hide in an abandoned house where a magician makes impossible things happen, including making doors disappear.
Skinamarink is a trip. It really captures the fear that one can experience during a dream state. When you haven't seen something scary but you're still experiencing a visceral fear that only make sense in a dream . It's cool how the light play in the movie changes perspective from minute to minute. Some shadows morph into what might look like a figure standing there but then it keeps morphing into something else and you realize it was nothing. And what's happening with the parents, you have an idea of what's going on but nothing concrete so its kind of left up to the interpreter on what's coming next. But then it never really comes so you're always in a state of anticipation with no real closure. Uncanny Valley stuff for sure. Some lady in the comments said the second watch is more enlightening. Twice? That's commitment for you.
“It’s very scary for 0 reason” is a perfect way to describe it. You don’t know really why it makes you scared but it does. It’s like the movie gives you this atmosphere and situation and it lets your imagination do the rest
My brother and I watched it for like an hour and he was so angry he said this movie made him want to, and I quote, "Skin a marinkee's dinky dink" and I nearly shit myself laughing. Then we turned it off.
I literally went ahead and watched this the night after Chris recommended it, and as horrifying and unsettling as it was, I’m so glad I did. So. Frinking. Good.
@@bubandlisano… no it’s really not. You think over-the-top shit like the woman chasing herself in “Unedited footage of a bear” is more creepy than your mind literally playing tricks on you, thinking you can see things in the darkness? No where near as creepy as this. You’re a kid with a tiny attention span, who needs to watch flashy monster shit that isn’t actually scary or memorable. Nothing in those videos you listed are actually relatable to real life. Skinamarink gives you the feeling of when you’re a kid in the house at night with the lights off or nightmares you have. Revealing the unrealistic and not actually scary monster like in the trash you prefer removes all horror instantly. There’s nothing scary or relatable about a zombie version of yourself chasing you with bad acting (it looks fake af when she’s attacking). This also has nothing to do with ARGs or the videos you listed… you have no idea what that means. This movie isn’t trying to pretend it isn’t a horror film, have you even watched it?
@@OkayContentexcept none of these are scary, they’re just entertaining. Skinamarink is there to scare you, not to just entertain you. Which is what the point of a horror film should be.
I'm a lightweight when it comes to horror movies so I'm not going to watch this. But boy... After watching the podcast yesterday I had such a crazy intense nightmare I filled 4 pages writing everything down including sketches. Our nightmares are truly the most terrifying source or horror!
Every time I add a movie to my watch list, Chris gives it a video review and it makes me watch it. RRR, lamb, and now I'll check this one out. Not sure if I'm ready for it though.
It’s actually not pretentious though, it’s just experimenting with a completely new format, which turned out to be way more scary than the generic shit being pumped out nowadays. Literally no good or memorable horror films coming out these days. None of them are scary, quick jumpscares are cheap and not impressive, and they’re usually predictable. This entire film is just suspense with no safety periods. Your mind even starts playing tricks on you. You clearly didn’t watch it in the right way or go into it with the right mindset if you bailed in 15 minutes. You do actually need to be immersed with no distractions when watching. Maybe you need an attention span
Watching it with a friend was also your first mistake. You need to be fully immersed when watching it. You were probably talking to each other and distracting each other and taking the piss, saying how boring it was like 5 minutes in. Your loss anyway, you missed out on an actually good and memorable horror experience.
@@samtt4489 man I watched it with 2 of my friends in the dark at midnight with the volume way up and it freaked us all out pretty bad. Still the most uncomfortable horroe movie I've ever seen. But we all took the movie seriously so you probably have a point there.
I would honestly be a bit sensitive to these types of movies. It looks like it would keep me up for weeks. Then some others find it boring lol. I watch others watch it 1st to be honest.
I watched it last night. It was uncomfortable to watch to say the least. Not a fun horror flick, but the atmosphere was so overwhelming and the tension was so high the entire time, and clearly something stuck with me as it's all I can think about today. Most horror films don't have a lasting effect on me, so in that sense I consider it good art if not good entertainment.
I am from Denmark and there a son called skinamrinka Dinka doo skinamrinka doo bare det altså snart er jul 😆😆😆😆😆 can't watch this without thinking about the dang song
Boring. Its like the little kid found dads video camera and turned on the blue filter and turned down the volume and spent the movie stumbling around the house scaring himself and his sister.
The best part about that movie is watching people’s disturbed reactions. It’s hilarious to me that this dumb cheap film is just blowing people’s minds.
I am a hardcore horror movie addict like i scout the internet to find horrorest horror movie around the world to get scared shitless....and I have seen a lot of it from filmmakers of different countries and i love this genre....now with this description from chris it feels like this is boring as hell
Being a hardcore horror fan doesn’t mean you have good taste. 99% of horror films nowadays are horrendous, predictable, too over-the-top and generic. You can’t relate to them at all. This is the scariest film I’ve seen in a very long time. It actually plays on your mind, makes you feel like how you felt in a dark house/having a nightmare as a kid. It makes you think you’re seeing things, just like in real life. You probably enjoy watching the same boring slasher films with terrible acting over and over again. The current formula clearly doesn’t work for horror films, we need new ideas like this. And serial killers with masks and flashy monsters aren’t scary, same with jumpscares which only make you jump for a quick second and are usually cheap. This film is just pure suspense. And I’m not even someone who enjoys pretentious art, I find it annoying. This is actually well made.

Couldn’t agree more about Skinamarink, wasn’t sure if I was going to finish it, now I haven’t slept in 4 days :)
It's a terrifying and disturbing film about child abuse. I have seen many many disturbing horror films and this is in the top 5.
