Medium braids without extensions and keep them in up to 3 months for low manipulation (twists dont last as long as braids) so you can retain all of your length.. moisturize wash deep condition as usual while having them in.. did that for a year and went from bra strap to waist length 😊 happy hair growth journey
I liked to keep my hair in medium size twists for 2 weeks, as a protective style, then wear it out for 2 weeks 😀! Best of both worlds 🙏🏿! I was almost tailbone length before I started my locs 😍!
2:59 video starts 1. Wash hair once per week 2. No hair color 3. No hair straightening 4. #1 style will be wash n goes 5. No protective styles with added hair 6. Deep conditioning every time you wash 7. Finger detangle 8. Bonding products 9. Protein treatments 10. Trim as needed
@NaturalReign idk what I'm doing wrong sis but I've been watching you for years and my hair is literally stuck at my shoulders now and has the thickness of ten fur coats 🥲
Heavy on the trim as needed rule! I only go to shops for a professional trim every year. This year I made it 14 months (I think I did a mini trim myself at 6 months) & the lady only took off a half an inch because my hair was healthy otherwise. She tried to convince me to come in every 4 to 6 weeks but ya’ll I SWEAR! When I was doing that I barely had any hair but since I’ve been doing it myself, I’m at bra strap length! Learning how to take care of my 4C hair myself has been priceless
Wholeheartedly agree. I think a lot of naturals are obsessed with perfect ends. Its really unnecessary as you won't see them unless you wear your hair predominantly straight. I do my own trims about every 3-4 months. Six to eight weeks is too frequent especially if your hair is not bleached.
I’ll be glad when they let go of that “every 4-6 weeks” mess and just tell ppl to trim as needed. Hair grows on average half an inch each month, so trimming that often is just constantly cutting off whatever grew. You’ll always be at the same length. That 4-6 weeks is for the girlies that can’t stay out of their heads or away from heat.
@@brittanywilliams8653 yesss exactly! My hair is usually in a protective style or a wig. I stick with my wash & moisturize routines during them & do a deep deep cleanse when I take them out. There’s no need to excessively trim if you’re not aggravating your hair imo
@@ShaySunshyne girl, my grandma was a licensed cosmetologist for over 40 years before she retired. She always told me growing up that black people’s hair can only grow to a certain length; that our hair can’t grow long, and we MUST trim every 4 -6 weeks. My hair is well past my bra-strap now in my 30’s. My grandma won’t even discuss hair with me anymore because YES I correct her on her outdated views. It pisses her off because I’m right and my hair is proof of it! 😂 She even stares at me oddly when I have my hair straight, like in disbelief that I was able to grow it that long. 🤣 She did my hair my entire life until my early 20’s.
I’m sorry but I genuinely believe that there is no such thing as a protective style within with extensions because I used to do box braids, soft locs , butterfly logs, anything you can think of and my hair was the same length never grew, but once I stopped doing all those fake hairstyles and started actually tending to my hair that’s when I really saw growth because I always was getting breakage and shedding when I did those “protective styles”😬
I wash my hair once a week also because it gets dry fast and my hair tends to stay moisturized when it's washed often. Infact when I used to wash my hair 2ce a week, I saw the most moisture and length retention
I adored your long hair but this big chop looks soooo cute on you fr! Goodluck to everyone on their journeys and remember to try to love and embrace every stage. It’s apart of You ❤
I totally agree about the trim schedule 6mos or more. That’s my new method. I shampoo and deep co. 2x a week. My goal is to prevent tangles and elimate shed hair. I changed my shampoo to a MILD salon shampoo. Goals to grow!
I big chopped 2022 when my hair started growing back post covid, then again 2023 when my hair started falling out postpartum. And I don’t regret each time, easier to style and manage! Plus always feels so healthy.
Played around with dyed hair like you for years. This year is also my intentional growth journey. My challenge is having fine hair prone to breakage but I'm determined. We got this👏🏾
Thanks so much for this video! I love how it’s no fluff and you let the people know exactly what the game plan is. I will be doing this challenge with you to get past my armpit length plateau.
Girl I feel you about how tough it is to not color your hair...I love to color my hair too and I'm on a journey myself just to bring health back into my hair and you guess it..not to color my hair..at least for awhile 🤭 Count me in to join on your waist length journey 🤗❤
We are definitely hair twins😍 I just cut off waist length hair almost two years ago and it’s growing back SO FAST! Your hair is so beautiful however you have it❤️ I’m ready to do this with you sis! I’ve got me some good ole mini twists right now 😊
Love that you're back!!!! ALSO, as someone who has been wanting highlights for a while now, and knowing the damage it caused me many years ago when I did... I now use hair wax and do my own highlights with it, just to ease the urge to highlight my hair bleach. Love it because I can switch it up when I want. I use the golden color, and I specifically just highlight my hair with it instead of using it all over my hair. I recommend you doing that when you feel the urge 😁
I'm SO excited to follow along, as I'll also be doing another big chop (my 4th 🥴) in two weeks, to celebrate my 25th birthday! This big chop is actually warranted, since I severely damaged it with heat and hair dye, while neglecting it. I also would like to grow it out using the wash n go method, and no heat. ALL of your rules spoke to me. I love a good red dye too lol. I also am not very good at cutting my own hair, so I'll be seeing a natural stylist every few months to keep me on track and get proper trims when needed. Additionally, unrelated, I LOVE how natural you are, skin is popping and you inspire me to be comfortable in my natural beauty 🩵
Finally someone like me who is going natural and was addicted to color lol I big chopped yesterday and now Im just growing out my color so i can cut it off when it grows and stay natural im 30 now so I just want my God given hair on my head for the rest of my life lol. I love your videos !
Everything you said in this video is absolutely GOLD 💛💛💛! I have locs, but if I was growing my hair to waist length again I would do it this way 🙏🏿! Thank you for sharing 🥰!
I don't think it was a big chop because my hair was already short but this video came just in time. Im trying to get this hair to grow to waist length with seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and an allergy to acrylate which is in almost every beauty product. Im definitely going to give some of these tips a try.
You made me brave enough to cut my hair years ago I’m happy to see you doing the same thing for other people, love you much, I can’t wait to see the journey ♥️
Awesome! I follow almost every rule and I'm on my long hair journey too so it was comforting that I'm already doing the things that will foster length retention. I think the only thing that was new to me was the protein treatments. Gotta learn more about that because I only knew about protein deep conditioners and I thought they were the same thing. Thanks for sharing!
i have been contemplating cutting my hair for the whole year of 2024, && it's officially official i will be cutting it off!!! bc over the past years, hair has just become too much for me. i don't even wanna comb it anymore. and it holds so much baggage to me so it must go :)
I only been natural 2 yrs. This is really a journey. My hair got to the middle of my back but I cut it again. So let’s see where me and you are at in 1-3 years 🥳. We got this. And I wash my hair twice a week. I workout and I have too.
Welcome sis! I took a while with my transition, but I’m so happy I waited over a year! I feel like I have a whole new head of hair to work with and grow with! You got this and I hope I can help you along the way 🤗💗
I m on the same journey! Got rid of the bleached ends! Now I m ready!! I wear my hair in twists or braids (no added hair.) I deep condition everytime I wash, protein treatment every other month. I wear a headband wig when I m going to an event. Otherwise I just massage and oil my scalp and leave it alone.

hiii i’m a brother and the way i side-eyed you when you said rule 5 🤣🤣😂 i was ready to tussle but i kept it in and kept listening to what you had to say
I'm doing everything except 1. WNGs, Buns and braids are my go-to 2. alternating DCs. I am just doing moisture + Olaplex 3. 3. No finger detangling. That's a one-way trip to matting for me. and 4. I gotta have my highlights!
It’s really amazing how everyone grows their hair differently which is why I had to stop using tips from hair UA-camrs during my natural hair journey. Because I grew almost waist length, very thick hair and I only washed every 1 to 2 months. And often skipped the deep conditioning because I’m lazy. 😂Hardly anyone thinks my hair is real because of the length and health of it.
I’m on my one year mark today and this is my second big chop (I made the mistake of texturizing my hair too much) and my hair is so thick now I don’t know what to do with it most days I was like do I really want it to get any longer lol so thank you for the motivation! I will be following along too ❤
wide tooth cone in the shower to work in moister and dont brush when u get out. idk what my hair type is but i have a mixture and im portirecen, spaniard, white, irish, and cherokee indian mixed.
I already follow all of your tips except for detangling (I use a detangling brush) and when I stretch my hair I will still use my Dyson hair dryer. The technology in the Dyson is unmatched and it’s the reason for me spending the money; to lessen the likelihood of experiencing damage to my hair.
lol I already broke one tip, I just went red with L’Oréal hi color but I deep condition weekly and have been babying my hair. Joining you on the journey as well ❤
Im growing out my hair again after my 2nd big chop last year. I’ve been natural for almost 10 years now and think I’ve finally found what works for me. I like to wash my hair weekly too. My scalp really can’t handle anything past that. And I’ve been using the Adwoa beauty blue tansy clarifying shampoo and mask weekly and my hair has been flourishing. To get some moisture balance I’ve started using their baomint leave in and curl cream(it provides a nice hold for me). I like to seal the ends with Camille rose gro grease. However, I want to see how well my hair does without me greasing or oiling my scalp at all. I’m only going to spray it with a rosemary, peppermint, and thyme water and try to massage daily since my scalp was getting super irritated. The rosemary water mixture really has been helping so far. And I like to keep my hair in twists. I wear them straight for 1 week after I install them, the second week I wash my hair in the twists then wait at least one day for them to dry before taking them down and rocking a twist out for the rest of the week. This cycle really helps me save time and retain length. And definitely sticking with my aphogee two step treatment. I’m trying to decided if I want to do every 6 weeks or 12 weeks. I think I’ll go with you since my hair is pretty healthy right now and do it every 3 months. I notice it after doing the treatment it really helps my strands glide past each other more smoothly. Lastly, after this year I want to try getting trims every 6 months. For some reason I keep getting a lot of single strand know all over. I’m suspect it’s either been the rough handling from a previous stylists or how I’m using my detangling tools. I’ve decided I’ll only use tools once a month now and finger detangling the rest of the month. I’m excited for this year of growth! I hope you have fun and wish you all the best 😊
Okay ima try! My hair is currently colored so I definitely need that protein treatment and deep conditioner. Only thing ima have a hard time with is protective styles with adding hair! Ima try though!! I really want to see my hair waist length!!! I normally get stuck at bra strap length.
I use to color my hair ALL the time and noticed my hair was breaking Then in December in 2022 it was so broken and damaged I did the biggest chop ever Now my hair is finally growing But I need to stop straightening because it’s causing split ends again Thank you for these tips I’m starting today 🫶🏾
lets go i big chopped almost 2 years ago... im just ready to grow my hair longer, im tuned in! and you said no protective styles !!!!!! im def on this new journey of styling my own hair😫
I'm with you on this journey. I cut off a bunch of color damaged hair so I'm trying to grow it all to the same length again lol and then on to waist length. I basically follow all your rules but I really need to stick with washing it once a week smh. Can’t wait for the other videos in this series, would love to know your favorite deep conditioners. I'm on the hunt for my holy grail products. Thank you can’t wait to follow along✌️🏾🫶🏾✨
I'm a year into chopping off all my color as well. The main difference is the texture. I didn't even know my natural texture was so tightly coiled because I have been bleaching it for 10 years. Also I have discovered I have grey hair now that I stopped using dye. 😅 I am definitely going to buy color wax, though, cuz I feel like my hair looks way better when it's blue 😭
Your little fro is so cute !! Im transitioning to natural hair and im currently almost 5 months post relaxer , im trying to go a year until i big chop & girl color is tough for me too 😂 but the permanent color with the relaxer fried my ends so im gonna wait this one out
I think overall in the brown community , it’s best to not be obsessed and much focus on length but the health of the hair . The rest comes later . Wish you success on your journey!
Im not obsessed with length! I’m sharing tips for healthy hair that will allow people to see growth if that is their goal. I know everyone has different goals!
@@NaturalReign oh sorry boo, my comment probably came across wrong .I didn’t mean to offend you or come off like thats what YOU are specifically focused on and influencing others to do the same . Not at all . I just know some people in our community can become very focused on length . It was a friendly reminder so people don’t feel discouraged . I wish the best for you really and wish healthy hair for us all . Happy brown girlies are embracing their hair ♥‿♥
I'm looking forward to following along. I'm only 15 months post relaxer, so I'm starting with a TWA. I'm excited to see how much length I can retain, nonetheless.
I over processed my hair from dying. It wasn’t damaged but it was breaking off a lot. After a good trim and weekly bonding treatments aphogee 2 minute protein treatments and moisturizing deep conditioner after a month the breakage stopped and oiling my scalp a few times a week actually growing my hair back. I don’t have a protein sensitivity
The no hair color was like a shot in the heart but it’s so necessary! I’m getting my braids in next Monday so I’ll only get my color fix that way 😭 Wait…what you mean with no added hair?! 😭 I need a reason on why not miss ma’am lol
I’m In in everything accept protest I’ve styles I will be out of the country three times over the next few months I have to wear braids on vacation 😂 and color I do not bleach I used the L’Oreal high color copper with 30 volume my hair is healthy In in the journey with you I may chop I desperately want a curly cut Can wait for your wash and go and styling videos 🫶🏽
Goregous hair in every length. I love to dye my hair red too, but as I grow it out instead of dyeing what needs to be retouched I use adore wild cherry and parika cellophane by adore. The adore is so conditioning to my hair.
@naturalreign Yay, I’m excited to be in the challenge! Requesting videos on how you use Aphogee 2 step, there has got to be a better way than blow drying it in and then rinsing it out. Also can you show how you use the Qredew to stretch your hair! Thank you 💜 👑
You said we can adjust for us ,so im gonna do that. Lol i braid my own hair and add a tiny bit of hair at the end just to ensure they are tucked in. It adds maybe 1/3- 1/2 an inch of length. So its not heavy and pulling down like traditional styles. I do need to work on doing my deep conditioning consistently. And im planning to do wash and go this summer ( i only do braids in winter - live in the moutains that air is dry)
Hey hun😊 your hair looks so good and full !! Quick question?….when you’re stretching your hair do you use high or low heat and how you keep it from shrinking back up ?
I’ve done all your tips except wash in gos I said I was going to start this summer, my hair doesn’t look good to me in that style but I will try. I haven’t mastered the wash in go for real. But thanks for the advice I will be more cognizant of making sure my hair is moisturized oh and another thing I wasn’t doing is protein treatment because I use henna to color my hair and it has protein in it.
I've watched you for a while and am excited to join you on the big chop journey! As someone who is constantly dealing with single strand knots and tangling from wash and gos, how do you deal with that? I know you stretch your hair with a blow dryer/the banding method, but is there any other way besides trims to reduce knots?
my hair was growing long and i cut a few inches off because i wanted to wear my hair in an afro, then i colored it ginger and it’s pretty much back to wear i started from and this is from august of last year until now but im not gonna cut it anymore. Im just gonna see how long it can get with your tips 👏🏾
What are some of your tips to grow long natural hair?
For me, would be mini twist which I will be doing consistently for a good 6 months..I love mini twists😊
@@ZenScorpiosame when I did my first big chopped that’s the main thing that helped grow it back.
Medium braids without extensions and keep them in up to 3 months for low manipulation (twists dont last as long as braids) so you can retain all of your length.. moisturize wash deep condition as usual while having them in.. did that for a year and went from bra strap to waist length 😊 happy hair growth journey

Im screaming too cuz idk how imma do that 😂

It’s really amazing how everyone grows their hair differently which is why I had to stop using tips from hair UA-camrs during my natural hair journey. Because I grew almost waist length, very thick hair and I only washed every 1 to 2 months. And often skipped the deep conditioning because I’m lazy. 😂Hardly anyone thinks my hair is real because of the length and health of it.
You are seriously glowing!💖💖💖
I HIGHLY recommend the Unbrush Brush for detangling during wash days! Have you tried it?
Me i am
With you sis growing out my nape the rest of my hair is great 😩😩my nape is killing my journey
I’m on my one year mark today and this is my second big chop (I made the mistake of texturizing my hair too much) and my hair is so thick now I don’t know what to do with it most days I was like do I really want it to get any longer lol so thank you for the motivation! I will be following along too ❤
I love seeing that you cut your hair I just cut 3-4 inches off my hair all my length gone I cried so hard but it was so broken 😞
wide tooth cone in the shower to work in moister and dont brush when u get out. idk what my hair type is but i have a mixture and im portirecen, spaniard, white, irish, and cherokee indian mixed.
I already follow all of your tips except for detangling (I use a detangling brush) and when I stretch my hair I will still use my Dyson hair dryer. The technology in the Dyson is unmatched and it’s the reason for me spending the money; to lessen the likelihood of experiencing damage to my hair.
I just got done growing out my heat damage…. #excited!!!
lol I already broke one tip, I just went red with L’Oréal hi color but I deep condition weekly and have been babying my hair. Joining you on the journey as well ❤
Your hair is so beautiful, healthy looking, and I love the shape and thickness of it! Looking forward to seeing you grow it out!
Hi Jaelen! I’m trying to be more consistent in my routine to grow my hair out and your tips have really helped, tysm :D
Ive cut my hair all the way low. Starting over again with you.
Thank you for this video! I did a mini big chop and haven't felt comfortable with my fro since. I can't wait to go on this journey with you!
You are so welcome! 💗💗
Definitely going to be on this journey- I wrote everything down. Thank you! I'm excited for this journey!
I use to color my hair ALL the time and noticed my hair was breaking
Then in December in 2022 it was so broken and damaged I did the biggest chop ever
Now my hair is finally growing
But I need to stop straightening because it’s causing split ends again
Thank you for these tips
I’m starting today 🫶🏾
lets go i big chopped almost 2 years ago... im just ready to grow my hair longer, im tuned in! and you said no protective styles !!!!!! im def on this new journey of styling my own hair😫
Hey sis, she said no protective styles with added hair. You can do mini twist or braids with your own hair. Hope that helps.
I’m going the no added hair root for my hair because it is way to fine to handle all that weight
Your little fro is so cute !! Im transitioning to natural hair and im currently almost 5 months post relaxer , im trying to go a year until i big chop & girl color is tough for me too 😂 but the permanent color with the relaxer fried my ends so im gonna wait this one out
My low porosity hair loves protein. Im cutting my hair for my birthday. I love volume and shape. I also have heat damage that I need to rid of.
I am really digging the fro. Shes cute. 🥰
Let’s do it!! Our hair grows we just gotta retain that length! 🤗
Show how you stretch your hair with your Rev-air, thanks !
It’s live on my Instagram! @jaelenmitchell
The no hair color was like a shot in the heart but it’s so necessary! I’m getting my braids in next Monday so I’ll only get my color fix that way 😭
Wait…what you mean with no added hair?! 😭 I need a reason on why not miss ma’am lol
This!
I’m following along. I prefer twistouts instead of wash and gos. I’ll give wash and gos another try next week
I looovvvveee hair paint wax. You can get so creative with them with no damage at all.
@naturalreign Yay, I’m excited to be in the challenge! Requesting videos on how you use Aphogee 2 step, there has got to be a better way than blow drying it in and then rinsing it out. Also can you show how you use the Qredew to stretch your hair! Thank you 💜 👑
I just mini chop my hair until bob curly cut
Oh that sounds cute!!
Love your new pfp😍
Thank you!!
Great tips for growing curly hair long. I will use cecred hair care.
I am going to try your rules, but I have really ugly gray. I haven't dyed or straightened my hair in 2 years. So I'm in!
Crazy how is your journey matching mines expect dye hair (already done) but let’s do it 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hey hun😊 your hair looks so good and full !! Quick question?….when you’re stretching your hair do you use high or low heat and how you keep it from shrinking back up ?
Thank you! I use high heat and then if it’s humid outside I stretch my hair with scrunchies over night!
Ty for replying back ❤️
I'm going to do a mini chop. It needs it .
I just mini chop on Thursday until curly bob cut.
@@kenyathdeleon2044 we're all on the same journey then. 😁
@@misslouk yes I'm loving my cut so easy to wash N Go now.
@@kenyathdeleon2044 you're lucky .My hair doesn't like wash and go.. I have to keep my hair in braids.
No protective styles with added hair is the journey I’m currently on as well. Those protective styles with added hair caused so much damage for me 😩
questions why no added hair for protective styles? and how do you feel about wide tooth combs for detangling hair
Hello I enjoyed your Video today! Thank You for the advice!😊
Glad it was helpful! 🥰
my hair was growing long and i cut a few inches off because i wanted to wear my hair in an afro, then i colored it ginger and it’s pretty much back to wear i started from and this is from august of last year until now but im not gonna cut it anymore. Im just gonna see how long it can get with your tips 👏🏾
