    Awesome channel. I was looking for the exact experiment. I am doing this same experiment with some dead sod that i also picked up from the store. I also saw where one of my neighbors had some one insta theirs and this neighbor was upset because it was all brown and not green
    Then another neighbor had some installed and it was green. It now has brown spots.
    So i installed mines myself and it still has life looked just like yours. But it is rooting to the ground and i can see some green starting to grow. Your video is rhd best one on YT fir this i looked and yours is the best. Keep the videos coming.
    Awesome amazing video

    I picked up the free sod too from home Depot. And yes, was able to bring it all back to life. Good on you mate! They gave me a whole pallet for nothing.

    That's insane. I just put down a pallet of TifTuf in my yard and I'm super nervous about keeping it alive. This gave me a little hope.

    In some parts of the country Bermuda is considered a weed, Grew up in West Texas where a Bermuda yard could totally disappear into the hard dirt and still come back with care. Bermuda is the go to grass if you have the temp and growing season and you can deal with its runners.

    Hey there, I just got out thousands of dollars into sod put in by a local company and due to faulty irrigation mg sod looks dead and the company is saying there’s probably nothing we can do and won’t seem to really help. It’s been a week and I’ve tried watering as much as I can. My question is since I didn’t actually lay the soil, do you think there’s any hope? There’s some patches of green but this company is essentially telling us nothing can be done

    With reviving the dead sod, what was your watering schedule like?

    • @chriscravey7769
      @chriscravey7769 2 роки тому +1

      I watered my hand to to three times a day for the first week. I started to back down from there. Really I was looking at the dirt. If it was hard and crumbling I would try to be more diligent about watering if it looked soft and moist I would skip a cycle. Within a week or two I started seeing new green shoots appear in the Bermuda.

    Question Buddy, how often were you watering? Also, what else did you add after laying down the SOD & how often? Thanks!

    • @thegreenup5676
      @thegreenup5676  2 роки тому +7

      This was a relatively small patch so it was easy to maintain. For the first week I watered 3 times a day by hand with my hose. 5 min sessions. Once it started taking I started backing down. Lasted all winter and is here and alive this spring.

    Umm okay but what was the “TLC”? What did you actually *do? This video is basically just a free commercial for the clearance bin at Home Depot. Dead sod is a problem for many people and obviously watering it alone doesn’t do anything. Maybe try explaining a bit more about how to revive the sod rather than bargains at Home Depot.

    • @chriscravey7769

      I put down fresh top soil, layed the sod, and watered. That was it!
      Hear the feedback and see your point. The intent was when we got ready to redo our whole back yard I was over analyzing how healthy the sod needed to be. The goal of this was to show others you do not be as concerned and even dead looking sod can come back to life.

    i have tiftuf sod with a lot of dead grass on top. do you need to dethatch it? how do you get rid of the dead material?

    • @chriscravey7769
      @chriscravey7769 2 роки тому

      I did not dethatch. I just make sure the soils underneath was fresh and healthy, laid the sod, and then made sure to be super attentive with watering (same with any new sod), and it bounced back! Started seeing green within a week to a week and a half. I did it super late in the season and I made it through the winter. Being at the bringing of the season just water and you should be good! I did not fertilize either.

    If you followed the video, the brown sods will be all dead. Why? He didn't talked about watering the sods. The video is more than 5 minutes long and no mention of watering the sods from day 1 through day 14

    I live in a little trailer on 1/2 acre lot near the beach. Ive never had a yard other than pine straw and East Coast sand. AKA Tar-Heel primer. A company is doing a huge project across the street from me in Bermuda grass..So yesterday I asked the land scaping crew for all their trim drops and "dead" pieces. They kinda laughed and asked "Why?". I told them. Come to find out, they are paying to dump it at the landfill.. I pointed at the trailer full of soil and sod..."I'll take all that too." The boss man perked up with a smile, pointed at a pallet and said "Start stacking what you want, and we can drop it off at the end of the day." .. Well..I stacked 2 full pallets of random trims and "Dead' squares. They brought it to me and I went to work raking and laying when it hit the ground at 2pm.. Around 5 pm they came through with 12 ft long trailer full of topsoil and chunks of Bermuda roots and asked again "Do you really want this stuff".. "Yeah, put it right there". XD . After they were done they asked if I wanted more tomorrow (sarcastically by my measure). I opened the gate to and pointed at nearly 700 sq ft of new lawn and I answered the only way I knew how.. "Abso-freakin-lutely!" They all giggled some and admitted they were a little shocked I got it all done from trims and dead sod... But..Boss man said, "Ok see you tomorrow then.".. To myself I said..Damn right you will... XD ..I mean, hey, if they have anything like what they brought today, dead/bare spots be damned.. Ill just dig it up and grab a replacement piece from the back lot. XP
