  • String player Donald Grant crafts a gnarly fusion of Scottish folk timbres and groove-heavy improvisation in his piece 'NZ 2004'.
Written to commemorate an extreme sports-heavy trip to New Zealand and then recorded in 2009 on Grant's solo album 'The Way Home', the latest incarnation of this exuberant track brought the concert hall to life when the Collective performed it as part of 'The Unfurrowed Field'.
Here, string quartet and jazz trio sit side by-side - an unlikely band of players that remind us to break free of musical boundaries, and just enjoy the ride.
