There was a McIntyre video after the incident where he talked how OCR or Spartan went from hype to shit for pro athletes. It's not really about morale points, it's about financial realities. I suspect that the CrossFit season became less and less financially viable for more athletes (there is a cut line somewhere) over the last few years. They went from global brands like Reebok to some niche start-up sponsors, i.e. the budget is shrinking. And this year, the big highlight competition did not generate any argument to attract new sponsorship money into the sport. Well, if pro athletes cannot even cover travelling costs, the athlete pool will shrink or replaced with less competitive athletes. Watch McIntyre's video from some month ago.
