Let's suppose we don't remember the actual start date of the activity 'MEP Works'. The activity was to finish by 2 August but it didn't finish by the Baseline finish date. Today is 12th of August and we know that the said activity is 70 % complete only. Can we go to '% Activity Complete column' and directly write 70% and schedule it? Will it be right thing to do?
There can be actual progress in the future, in the same way, that there can be no actual progress in the past. That's called real-life projects which always tend to run completely different to the original/update plans.
If we are reporting progress based on duration, how will the software calculate it for your if work progress is slow? We have to manually updated the duration %.
An update button is always there.. you can also update manually by entering the start date, progress percentage and finish date if the activity is complete.
How do I show a productivity factor per activity? Is there a custom column I can create to make this calculation? For example...If I have an activity that is estimated at 100 hours.....and my actual hours to date are 75...and im 50% complete with the job, which means I earned 50 hrs....which also means I am running a .67 productivity factor for that particular activity. How do I make the .67 show up on the activity line item in one of the columns?
I have a problem with my p6.I am done with my planning and I want to put my new data for the next month manually; *First problem=When I click the start box in status bar and change the data with a different date finish box doesn't change automatically. *Second problem=When I change for example my first activity dates and there is a lag time. And I click the F9 , put my new data date and start to schedule the data date I put became the next activity start date. Let me explain this way Activity (A) Start date:03/05/2018-end date 10/05/2018 Activity (B) Start date 11/06/2018-end date 23/05/2018 Changing activity (A) and --> start date 05/05/2018 end data 12/05/2018 Click the schedule and put data date as 1 June start schedule Activity (B) becomes start date 1/6/2018-end date 13/6/2018 Any solution for it ???
Hi, First Problem: If you are using Duration Percent complete Type then only Finish date changes automatically once you enter the percent complete of the activity. If you are using Physical Complete type, you need to either change the remaining duration or set an expected finish date which will determine the end date then. 2nd Problem: In your example you are changing the Data Date to June 1 while as you have not finished Activity A (or finished A on 12/05/2018) but DD is 1 June which means Activity B is late as it should have started on 13/05 as per relation logic. Since it did not start, so it takes the new early start date as Data Date.
Make 13 May as your DD. If you make DD as 1 June and do not record any progress for Act. B it means Act. B will obviously start from June 1. It can not start in the past!
You have manually put the duration % complete . Obviously this will update the rem duration upon schedule F9 .But this is not in essence of duration % complete formula i.e Original Duration - Rem Duration / Original Duration . Secondly if we feel duration % complete value is not intuitive , we need to update the Original Duration to At Complete Duration .
Using duration percent complete is the simplest way to update progress as a beginner. You can use physical percent complete once you get an idea of P6 working, thats why I have used duration percent complete.
But my argument is when you are manually putting say 40% duration progress , you are basically putting it from your physical idea of the job and is not duration percent in real sense because duration percent complete should always follow the formula Original Duration - Rem Dur/ Original Duration and should not be put manually .In case . When using duration percent complete we should follow these steps : 1) Mark activity as started 2) Update Start Date 3) Put an Exp. Finish Date(rather than changing the Rem Duration). You will get the duration % complete after F9. In case you want intuitive values for duration percent complete change original duration to at complete values . So as a good planning personnel you should never put duration percent manually .
Another alternative for step 3 is to update the remaining duration column and the software will auto calculate the duration % complete as well as the revised end date.
Perfect explanation 💯 Thank you so much 🙏
you speak very clearly, good pace short video more knowledge
Very concise and and easy to understand. Thank You.
Very good explanation..
very good explanation
To the point and concise. thanks a lot
Very good demonstration

Why do you have actual progress in the future? Activity A1020 seems to be incorrectly progressed.
There can be actual progress in the future, in the same way, that there can be no actual progress in the past. That's called real-life projects which always tend to run completely different to the original/update plans.
Hy sir, your videos are very informative.
I asked a question with you,
Why planned dates are disturb when we update schedule in primavera.
You need to baseline a project before update and your baseline dates won’t change.
Why did you update the duration % complete manually? This is accurately auto calculated by the software.
If we are reporting progress based on duration, how will the software calculate it for your if work progress is slow? We have to manually updated the duration %.
Very good thank you
Welcome :)
How did you put percentage because data approximately not site team take the datas
Good Job
@1:08 how does he update if there is no Update button?
An update button is always there.. you can also update manually by entering the start date, progress percentage and finish date if the activity is complete.
@@ConstructionTechie I see, thank you so much for responding back to me.

You need to create a UDF (user defined field) for that.
@@ConstructionTechie can i make it automated or do i make a column and simply manually plug the number in?
You can do both ways, for automated calculations you need to create a UDF based on formula. You might need a couple of UDFs .
@@ConstructionTechie I understand..but HOW? Can you do a walkthru/vid on how to do it?
sir,for a1020,the progress is early start and the duration is 5,why the finish date is 2jun?

Activity (B) Start date 11/06/2018-end date 23/05/2018
