I was a bouncer for Belkon Productions back then and I worked this concert back stage at the Crisler. Bruce was so cool to us, asking if we had anything to eat. After the concert we got to hang out with him, Seger and the rest E-Street band. Plus Seger's Silver Bullet Band was also there. They treated us as if we were long time friends, talking & laughing wanting to know what we were studying in college. Alto Reed's wife "HOT" was catering to us, making sure we had something to eat & drink. A week later we did it all over again at Cobo Hall in Detroit.
Had tics. to this show in seats behind the stage. But, as we always did in those days, we made our way to main floor. Just as we got down there Bruce announced that Ann Arbor's own, Bob Segar, was coming out to help him sing Thunder Road. At first the crowd was cheering wildly at just the mention of Bob Segar's name. But, listen to the crowd when he comes out... absolute pandemonium. By far the loudest I have ever heard a crowd cheer and the greatest moment at a live event that I've ever seen.
I was there !!! and it was a night to remember. I'm a big fan of both and this was the first time I saw them together. When Bob came onstage the place went absolutely wild. It was incredible to watch them play together.....not to mention that Bruce blew the roof off the place that night. . 30 + years burning down the road.
This show was at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor (Bob's back yard) and I am very proud to say that I was there. They were both at their peak and this is, arguably, the greatest moment in the history of live entertainment!!!
Wish you got this on video but this recording is amazing nonetheless. One of the best moments in history of live music. Both in primes and nailed this performance.
A night I'll never forget. I had seen Bob live a couple of times at that point, but it was my first time seeing Bruce. Can't wait to see the E Street Band again in April.
To the person who posted this recording. Thank you! I had 5th row seats stage front and couldn't attend this show. Heard about this moment and finally heard it after 40 and one half years.
I was at this show! I don't remember much about it, but I do remember I was sitting somewhere behind the stage and I was relatively close to Seger. I remember thinking he had a really bad haircut and, looking at this photo, I can see my memory does not lie.
my brother and I god rest his soul,we went to alot of Bob seger concerts back in the early to late 70s most of them were summer jams great times. I will never forget them days....rest in peace my brother...
I was there too at chrysler arena... it was like so awesome.... Bruce said just a sec... i gotta friend to bring out and they played thunder road together... i'll never forget it....
Wow, thank you for posting it. I got this concert in a tape, and the sound was so bad you could barely hear the song. I'm in love with the talent of Bruce and the voice of Bob Seger. Listening both singing together is a gift to me. Thanks again.
My wife and I were at that show in Ann Arbor. We had main floor seats and my wife pointed out Seger sitting near us before he headed backstage. We're going to see Seger tonight in Philly. Hoping to catch lightning in a bottle and see a "special guest" join him on stage. Rumson's only 90 miles from Philly.
This show was performed at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Michigan (nearly Bob's back yard). A week later Bob and the Silver Bullet Band performed at Cobo Arena in Detroit. Bob Seger is the ***TRUE*** ***HEART*** of Michigan (not Eminen, Madonna or Kid Rock). He's been rocking for four decades!!! And he is the nicest and most REAL person ever. Went to a wedding of a guy I know and wore his typical blue jeans and jacket. He is NO sell-out! No druggie or drunk arsehole even from the beginning of his career. Plus, he hasn't abandoned his roots in Michigan. What took so G.D. long for him to be inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?? Idiots!

Bob Seger admired " Thunder Road " so much. It inspired him to write "Night Moves" What GREAT music these guys have. They should do a whole series of concerts together. It would be standing room only...
baskie28 wrong songs lol. Jungleland inspired Night Moves. Bob had first two verses to Night Moves written and stuck in the mud unable to finish it 5 months before Bruce’s Born To Run album was released. When Bob heard Jungleland a light went off and helped him finish Night Moves. Thunder Road influenced Roll Me Away. Go listen to it 🤠 He even brought Bruce’s piano player ROY Bittan In for Roll Me Away to capture that awesome sound and feel.
@@OutlawPeteNJ Bob said it was the way Springsteen added multiple bridge sections to Jungleland that inspired the full structure of Night Moves, a song that has has 2 separate bridges.
I love Bob and Bruce. Bob I've loved for as long as I can remember. I literally cannot remember a time when I wasn't listening to Seger. I think my mom must've played the Stranger In Town album on headphones against her pregnant belly! Bob Seger is practically in my bloodstream. Bruce I've been a fan of for almost 10 years now and he has influenced me more than Bob when I write. Bruce is kinda the better songwriter, but Bob has the bigger heart. Plus, my 2nd fav song is Bob's, not Bruce's.
@speyez I did know that, but I'm just surprised that between 1980 and 2011 last night, they never shared the stage seeing as they are close. But its nice to know they still have so much fun together. I mean this picture pretty much says it all.
This is such a SPECIAL song. For Bruce to ALLOW Bob Seger to come out and sing the song with him is a HUGE honor. This is such a great song and one in which Bruce can only allow himself to sing. For him to allow another singer to sing it with him is really SPECIAL. BOB SEGER must realize that BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN was doing something great for him at this time. I mean, how many times do artists allow other people to sing their songs. Many times it happens but not with this one song. This song is different and SPECIAL. Bruce wrote this song for his MOTHER. For him to allow BOB SEGER to sing along with him is such a great honor.
Seriously? Bob Seger was writing and making flawless albums before Springsteen even entered the music scene. Give me a break with your Springsteen "Allowed him to come onstage " BS. They are both legends, Two of the greatest songwriters ever, And two of the greatest backing bands behind them, the other being Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers band. If Bruce Springsteen read YOUR Comment, He would probably slap you upside your head.😂
@greglausch I agree. And they just did for the first time since this incident last night at MSG. Bob brought Bruce onstage as a special guest for Old Time Rock And Roll. I knew they were friendly, but this was so unexpected. Just seemed odd that for over 30 years they haven't made an appearance onstage again. Videos from last night just make you smile at these guys. My two favorite idols onstage together. Gave me chills.
nobody rocks the stage like Bob Seger!!!! I do like some of Bruce but not as much as I love Bob!!!!! sorry!!! We here in Bama love Bob Seger and ALL his songs!!!
@13wargo.... keep dreaming...LOL they are both among the greatest songwriters of our time....Both have the ability to touch just about every listeners heart with their lyrics & music. Bob mainly writes of things that he's personally experienced & lived. So does Bruce... but Bruce has the uncanny ability to look at the lives of others and their experiences and personalize them in songs that make you swear he lived it himself as well....even though he didn't.... Both are great artists!!!
same thing happened when Bob brought Bruce onstage at Madison Square Garden dec of 11.... I was at that one so I'm good with not being at Chrisler Arena for this moment LOL
Yes for the last few tours it's been Don Brewer as Bob's touring drummer,. Prior was David Teegarden who replaced original silver bullet band drummer Charlie Martin after his unfortunate car accident that left him wheelchair bound. But Charlie still rocks and sings great to this day. The reason I called you out on saying it's Don Brewer was cuz you responded to tmonico's question above of:"WHo is the drummer on the drum kit behind them in the picture - a very young looking Max Weinberg?"
@Wayne Lippman...... I'm not sure.... Roy did session recording work with Bob.... It also sounds like Roy's Piano On Downtown train which Bob recorded originally back in 89 when there was no E-street Band and then Bob added some vocals to it before it's release as a single in 2011....
