    Oh my gosh Carly! You are racing along in your career at break neck speed…Charcoal Animals, Then beautiful models again in charcoal then Bam! Oils in monochrome, you are such an inspiration! I love your style and such a beautiful ❤God bless!

    Have you ever tried using an airbrush? My career was in advertising, I can freehand airbrush paintings using only loose, soft hand held masks when required. Your monochrome work would work beautifully. Your work has a grace very like the Pre-Raphaelites especially Byrne-Jones! Great quality!

      Much of the art world doesn’t really dig us advertising guys turned serious artists. Many think of us as glorified illustrators, I think it has a lot to do with how we approach the work.

    My favorite quote is from Picasso as well. *When I was a child, my mother said to me, 'If you become a soldier, you'll be a general. If you become a monk, you'll end up as the Pope.' Instead, I became a painter and wound up as Picasso.*
    It's a bit self-serving, but it's also a hell of a life lesson when it comes to pursuing a passion over a career, and not listening to others when they don't think there's a future in your passion.
    One big lesson I will never forget came indirectly from Picasso: He failed as an artist every day of his life. He created 50,000 pieces of art, and most of it was pretty terrible. If he was lucky, one in a thousand pieces were a masterpiece. But one in a thousand pieces *when you created 50,000 pieces* gives you 50 master works, probably more than any other recognized artist in history. Never be afraid to fail. My biggest takeaway from high school was exactly the opposite of what schools try so hard to avoid: It's better to try and fail as often as you can than to do the safe thing and guarantee a mediocre success.

    I have found that the way you do art is the colors that ring within me. I’ve found I like charcoal and graphite, but have wished for the same texture but n sepia tones. Love the look you’re achieving now.

Not PC to say it out loud, but looks matter - more for women than for men, but a lot for all of us... Video killed the radio star.!

    Awesome piece of artwork. It's a pleasant surprise to see you transitioning into oil painting. The great sense of contrast and darkness is clearly seen in your oil painting as it does in charcoal artworks. I'm really excited to see the final product. I liked the idea of using white for sketching the drawing instead of usual black. Most favorite part for me was seeing the white lines dissolving into the picture as you painted over them revealing a beautiful portrait embedded in those lines. I'm not sure why I didn't get notification sooner but I'm glad I was able to witness the amazing piece of art. Keep up the good work Carlee. God bless you :D

    I really love that you mentioned that we actually have to sit down and do the work. I really struggle with sitting down and just doing it, and forget that the masters like Michelangelo tooks years to master so it is maybe 5% talent but 90% doing the work, and the last 5% actually sitting down to master the skill.

Love that you are embracing the initially stages of oil painting as your actually art (unless I’ve misunderstood) I tend to agree with you that the charm of the burnt umber is so beautiful by itself.

    I did a lot of oil painting in High School back in the middle !970's - But quit using them during my 1st year of collage in 1976. I switched to exclusively using acrylics; because I was doing a lot of airbrushing...fast forward to present day & with the great acrylic anti-drying mediums; I'd never go back to using oil paints again. Plus using oil paints is a lot more unhealthy that using acrylic paints too. I use the best acrylic paints on the market, which are "Nova" brand acrylic paints. I look forward to seeing your progress with the oil paints, Carly.

    • @paulwoodford1984
      @paulwoodford1984 Рік тому

      yes, acrylics rule. especially now that you can get them to be a mix between oil and acrylic. Atelier interactive acrylics can be reactivated if needs be yet can dry normally like acrylics but a little slower. Best of both worlds. oil is just inconvenient

    i agree, starting is definitely the hard part, i think it's about getting into flows. to me, starting any artwork is like jumping into a river that you aren't quite sure of where it leads. but once you're in it, you keep flowing down it for a while until you reach a random shore, not sure if the metaphor holds up but basically, it's easy to keep going with a flow once you're in it but hard to get in it because of the chaos of arbitrary direction it has. easy to get out as you can just wash up anywhere but hard to know where if any destination is. it's really annoying for me as i have many destinations in mind but no idea which river leads me there if any. often times if feels like i'd have to trek over countless rivers, mountains, and valleys to just reach one of my minor destinations.
