It’s a tough business. Coaches always make promises but quickly break those promises or change their minds. Could be a highly rated recruit who wasn’t interested at first starts gaining momentum. Could be many things. Honestly you dodged a bullet because Donovan would’ve left after your freshman year to the NBA. My uncle played at Florida for 3 years and had 3 straight season ending injuries. The coaches called him up and told him hey we love and appreciate you but we’re pulling your scholarship and need you to leave so we can open a spot for someone who can actually stay healthy and play… so he transferred to BYU. Still love my gators though. UCF on the come up though with moving to the big 12.
This is normal. It’s a business first and foremost and to hate on UF for not going all in on you isn’t a fault on Donavan. He never gave you the scholarship offer. I get where you’re going with this but top schools will NEVER settle after offering. This true in all sports. Hope you ball out and achieve your goals nonetheless.
They “pretty much” offered you a scholarship, and he “pretty much” said he didn’t want you? Welcome to life where you’re not special, and you’re not going to be treated with kid gloves. Apparently you just didn’t have what it took to play for Donovan. A lot of players get offers that aren’t commitable, and yours was one of them. At that time Florida was one of the top programs in the nation. It’s a business decision who gets the few scholarships offered, and there’s no shame in not being selected. So why wait until now to whine about Donovan and Florida?
