But seriously there is something so lively, spirited and so alive about medieval music, it makes you want to loose yourself in the music and dance. It saddens me this type of music isn't heard anymore
Well. Greek music is based on this melodys. I know what you mean, the same feeling you have with 2 shots of Uzo and some Greek music and enough place for making a circle
@@oxymonster1337 - is it though? I‘ve been listening to a lot of Greek music (mostly from the islands) through the years and think it really feels different, more ‘exotic’ if you will. For example, the melodies and harmonies sound way stranger to my ears, like odd-but-in-a-good-way. It’s a bit like how oriental music to middle-European ears seems to be in a very odd tune.
The saltarello was a lively, merry dance first mentioned in Naples during the 14th century. The music survives, but no early instructions for the actual dance are known. It was played in a fast triple meter and is named for its peculiar leaping step, after the Italian verb saltare ("to jump").

In the only (and the earliest) source for four 14th century salterelli, British Museum, Additional 29987, the dances are clearly spelled salterello, rather than the frequently-misspelled saltarello. We don't know how people would dance to them, but it is likely that they were walking dances that incorporated little hops every few feet. The basse danse of the 15th century is thought to be a descendant of the salterello. The use of fast tempi, loud percussion and loud reed instruments, as in this recording, would certainly not have been tolerated indoors.

I don't need that, but thanks for the tip though
I can relate... This makes me want to drink abbey ale and dance while waving my axe..

I so agree. Minus the dress lol every night is a perfect night for a fire and a dance with some fine medieval music
More likely in front of house with chicken legs.

I'd dare say happy popular music like the saltarello or trobadours' chançons are an early sign of humanism in medieval society
