This was super helpful! Do you know how to edit the tread so there is a profile on the underside of the tread? Trying to create a 3D detail on the underside of each tread on a staircase.
Yes....steps: 1. Create Stairs 2. Create new profile family for tread profile 3. Set custom profile category as Stair Tread usage within Family Categories/Parameters 4. Load into Projject 5. Tab select the stairs (not the entire stairs...just the stair component that makes up the treads/risers) 6. Go to Type Properties 7. Under Treads section, specify your custom Tread Profile to be used....adjust the profile sketch as needed.
as of now, nosing material is not a separate parameter that you can adjust. You will most likely need to try the Paint command or use an in-place family with custom material assignment.
@@DzanTa Thank you for your response. Is there a way to create a nosing profile for a precast stair type? I try to create L shaped profile but when I import it, the object appears only on thread surface. A part which is supposed to be on riser face remains merged. Any ideas on how to fix it?
@@kristinamasyte2966 you will need to create an in-place family with the stairs in context to help define the shape of the nosing. Start with a side view, start in-place component command, use extrusion or sweep boolean operation. Sketch lines that define the shape of the nosing profile then copy/paste this sketch to all other treads so all the nosing acts as a single in-place family. Then apply material to this in-place component.

Hi. How to apply material only for nosing element?
as of now, nosing material is not a separate parameter that you can adjust. You will most likely need to try the Paint command or use an in-place family with custom material assignment.

where can i have the family
you can easily create the custom nosing profile using the Profile Nosing.rft file. This is located in your standard family templates folder
Dzan Ta i dont have it in my family folder..can i download it somewhere?
if you are using windows 7 pro OS, it is located at c:\programdata\autodesk
vt 2018\family templates\english-i
It is called Profile-Stair Nosing.rft
