Could you imagine if we got a Crash Mii costume and they announced it with the guy in a Crash costume with a megaphone outside Nintendo HQ begging to get in to Smash

@@username15th Speculation is the wrong word, that implies picks based on trying to get in to the headspace of the developers and trying to view what would make sense for them to pick, what gets them the most sales, etc. Which is not these characters largely. These are more like wishlists.
But the majority of the Smash community will never learn that and continue to be garbage at predicting DLC

Doomguy has a personality, but I wouldn't say he has more than Master Chief. He's always angry and that is largely the extent of his character. Sure he has a few moments in which he shows a more light hearted side, but he's by and large just always angry. People also seem to ignore that Master Chief has shown a personalty. From him and Cortana bantering to him spooking a grunt in Halo 2. He's not just stoic and silent like people act like he is, he legitimately shows more range of character than Doomguy does.
Based off of the examples you've provided, they seem pretty equal in terms of personality.

It always pisses me off when people say that Chief has a personality of a cylinder block. Sure, he's not the most expressive character but he's also not the most flat either.

Roger mentions that Sakurai said he was considering around 70 different characters for the first Fighters Pass. This is the first I've heard of this? Is it true? And if it is, where/when did Sakurai say this? I would really like to see the context of this statement~
Possibly a misunderstandng. In the Byleth presentaion ua-cam.com/video/Tu2PSY_pbJ4/v-deo.html at about 34:30 Sakurai says (or was translated as, idk the exact Japanese) that 'from more than 70 fighters only 5 were added'. I personally tok that as the more than 70 in the base game, but I could see how a misunderstanding of the sentence can arise.
I remember hearing something similar at the start of the pass; maybe in the joker video?

I’m pretty sure there was a moment in a direct where Sakurai explained that when choosing characters, he was given a pool of characters from Nintendo and Sakurai hand picked them from that pool.
@@ITALIANN1NJA1 I hate that this has basically become fact among the Smash community, because technically this was never said anywhere. Sakurai said Nintendo picked the characters and he told them if he could make a character out of them or not.
Agumon would be a cool pick for Namco. Isn’t as big sales wise as Soul Calibur, but has tons of games on Nintendo platforms, and fits in the aesthetic well as a cartoony character. Plus, Digivolving between Agumon and Greymon would be their unique mechanic, like a mix of Lucario’s Aura (automatic or a meter you can choose to use like Little Mac, likely their down B) and Pokemon Trainer (several fighters in one).

"Kirby sells better than Fire Emblem" is probably true if we look at the past generations, but I think in terms of recent games (that aren't remakes), they've been about equal (with Fire Emblem doing slightly better):

@@clickbait3753 Maybe, but Fire Emblem still puts out comparable sales numbers to it now which is pretty telling.
Also, I checked the total revenue for Fire Emblem Heroes since they brought it up, which sits at around 656 million $ right now. Taking that and dividing it by 39,99 (which is the $ price of a new 3DS game I believe) and I came to the conclusion that the total revenue generated by Heroes is the equivalent to more than 16 million buyers of a new 3DS game.
Here's some other potential price tags for comparison if you don't think that price tag is fair:
656 million divided by 49,99 = around 13.122.624 million units
656 million divided by 59,99 = around 10.935.155 million units
656 million divided by 69.99 = around 9.372.767 million units
Obviously, this discounts money spent maintaining and updating the game, but I do believe we have ourselves an answer in terms of how well FEH performs for Nintendo in the mobile market compared to their other offerings. (I daresay Fire Emblem Heroes is essentially their flagship game for that market.)

I've wanted Geno in Smash since I first heard about Smash 64 before it came out. I don't think it's likely, but here's hoping!

@@INFERNO95 Square has said that they prefer their characters to be DLC, so they would probably be up for more of their characters to be added.

I completely disagree with the idea that Rex is too late for Smash. Even though I love Fiora and think she would be cool as a character, I just don't think adding her over Rex would be right just because of timing. XC1 already has a character to represent it in Shulk. Adding another character from the same game when there are two others they could still add the main MCs from just doesn't feel right. It's why people feel that way in regards to FE Awakening having too many reps. Only difference is that they're echo fighters.

@@miket.1933 Well yeah of course Rex needs Pyra and Mythra with him. You can't have one without the other. They're a pair, having them separate doesn't really accurately depict how they are in their own game.
As for why no Zeke or so. Because main protagonists get main priority over everyone else. That's like having Tifa or Barret as the sole FF7 rep instead of Cloud. And explains why all the Fire Emblem characters in Smash are all protagonists.

Unexpected things happen so who knows. Imagine a world where Toro Inoue gets into Smash. I can't believe NOKOLO even mentioned him. I've only known Toro through PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and never in my life did I consider him as a potential character for any Smash game whatsoever.

Halo actually has a surprisingly big and dedicated following in Japan, even though Xbox sells poorly over there. Idk how that happened, maybe Legends and other media helped, but it does from my experience. As for the stage, I doubt it would be High Charity. If you're gonna have a Halo stage in Smash, it absolutely has to be on a Halo ring. The ring being in the sky is too iconic of imagery to not be featured if Master Chief gets in. I think he has a good shot, and I can totally see Microsoft pushing to get Chief in as a way to promote Infinite, and there's just so many things you could do with the series for his moveset, music, spirits, etc.
I’m just really curious what his DLC “gimmick” would be? I thought about it and totally agree with your points. The only thing I could think of without doing research is a re-chargeable energy sword or something?
@@ITALIANN1NJA1 I've seen a few ideas passed around. The first is a rechargeable shield gimmick, where Chief would have energy shields that absorb damage until they run out, and they won't be recharged again until he avoids taking damage for a bit. If you ever seen the Arbiter in the new KI, it would be something like that. Another idea is to give him 2 weapons at the start of a match, and then as the match goes on, different weapons would spawn in that Chief could use to replace his starting weapons with. For example, Chief could start with the AR and Magnum, then after a while, a Rocket Launcher spawns in and Chief could run up to it and chose to replace his AR, Magnum, or to just ignore the rockets entirely. I think both of these could work, and both represent ideas that Halo popularized in the FPS genre, being rechargeable health/shields, and 2 weapon carry limits.

I know this is the same game that technically promoted a competitor by having Joker's splash screen be "Persona 5 x Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" but I kinda doubt that will happen again.
@@bobjeezorham7658 I mean, there's been rumors going around that the MCC could come to Switch. Even then, not every one plays Smash. Including Chief could open the doors to a whole new audience for Smash that wasn't there before.

Crash as a mii costume is a big blow miss opportunity considering his an Icon plus the last peace to the big fight of the century Mario vs Sonic vs Crash.

When mentioning more solo female characters in Smash, you guys should've mentioned Shantae, Reimu (Touhou), Saber (Fate), Haruka (Idolmaster), and Neptune (Hyperdimension Neptunia).
Roger hates Shantae; doesn't bring her up unless it's to shoot her down.
I can't imagine how Reimu would work, so I'd be curious to see it.
@@vodaz9109 Why does he hate Shantae despite being one of the more obvious solo female characters? There's a Touhou fighting game called Anatomy of the Common Flower that shows how Reimu can work.
"Coz she isn't popular/no one cares about that series" / "If Shovel Knight didn't get in, she won't" / "Sans and Steve have a higher chance than her" / "She's already lucky to have gotten a Spirit" / "She'd be one of the shill picks" etc. Uses rules against her that also apply to the same characters that he wants.
Very easy to find at least two of those allegations from looking around on these discussion videos.

This should be interesting given how far off their “Rate That Character” series was. This is what chance they gave these characters of appearing:
Pichu: 35%
Young Link: 10%
Daisy: 30%
Ken: 35%
Sans: 1%
Yeah they tend to be so off that given how convinced they were on Geno and Masterchief, makes me believe they definitely won't be in Smash.
Sans isn't in the game. It was rate that character, not rate that Mii costume. I would also say that most people would have predicted the same for returning vets, as they likely would not have made it if this was a more standard Smash game as opposed to the selling point being "everyone is here."
In anycase, not a single one of the Rate that Character discussions you mentioned were done by a person involved in this discussion, so they have 0 bearing on anything.
EVERY single RTC was done by one member of the team with no input from anyone else. If you want to judge a person based on their RTC record, then watch the videos made by that particular person.

In terms of PREDICTIONS, I honestly have no clue what they'll do. In terms of wants... well... I like one of the last five characters and did not care at all for the rest. GAMEPLAY-wise though, I think they were all fun, even if they weren't my kind of character to play.

@@christianlopez707 Absolutely not, it utterly astounds me how many people (mostly in the west) think Geno would be one of Square's top picks. Square has all the say and power to say if Geno can be a character and it raises the question if they aloud him to be a spirit and a online token, why blow his ultimate reveal on such small things? Why not just hold back on anything Geno related until the big reveal? I could deff see a thing where if Geno doesn't get in, his fans would throw the biggest fit based on how much they assume he is coming with little to no evidence backing it up.
@@reaperzone85 Heck many people got upset when rumors of a Dragon Quest character getting in started surfacing, because they thought this would steal Geno or Sora's chances of getting in. It really is amazing how people think he has an amazing chance when he offers nothing to company that owns him.
My personal choice of characters would be:
-Nier from NieR (tough I think 2B is more likely and I want my Nier music)
-Crash bandicoot is a top character for me, member of the old versus between him, mario and sonic, deserve a spot for his cartoony style
-Lora & Jin from Xenoblade 2 Torna would be my favorite characters to include, but I want a new Xenoblade character, either Elma, Rex, Adam, Fiora or any other character
-A new Zelda Character (I would choose between Vaati or Majora, a new vilain) but more probably a BOTW2 original
-As an indie rep I chose Reimu because of the Touhou music and popularity in japan, I don't know much about the series itself but I love the soundtrack
-My last character is Lloyd Irving from Tales of, and now I'm thinking 2020 is the 25th anniversary of the licence
For Pokemon if one comes, I would see Urshifu coming, even Toxtricity or any S/S original Pokemon (please no more starter). But another Pokemon instead of a new Zelda or Xenoblade would be bad.
For Geno I see him as a mii costume (Cuphead and Sans are Mii Gunners and what is Geno ? Sort of a magic user with a cannon arm... sadly I think that's his fate)
Everyone talks Capcom but never remembers Okami.
They'd rather waste a DLC spot on Dante instead of Amaterasu.

I don't see the argument about Crash as a Mii Fighter costume as likely. Crash is a video game icon and one of the last gaming mascots to make it into Smash. I highly doubt Sakurai would consider him for a costume. If he's ever considered- it has to be for a Fighter

And before anyone says “you only want waluigi for the memes” I actually don’t. I think waluigi would be an interesting character in terms of moveset. Plus I think he’d be a lot of fun.
Same, I reckon Waluigi could be similar to Wario in his vibe but like dedede is his 'memey-ness'
That awkward moment when we have to acknowledge that none of the new pokemon starters are viable options for the fighter pass. A green DK style money complete with a bongo, a wii fit trainer person in red, and a pistol sniper spy lizard that is extremely slender. I didnt even use my starter during my playthrough after it evolved. Urshifu is DEFINITELY a cool option and you can pick loads of attacks and pick a size

Anyone else Im fine with, but Reimu is my top pick.
If any indie character makes it as a full character, it would be Reimu.

@@samuelocker2594 If you would allow me, Reimu Hakurei is a Shrine Maiden and main character from an indie "series" (The creator doesn't really like to call it a series, but yet each game connects to others, the main characters are the same for the most part, etc.) Touhou Project.
Touhou Project itself is a "Series" of vertical shooter arcade style indie titles for Computers - originally for old computers starting in 1995, but eventually going to more modern machines in 2002.
The difference being is that you're weaving through a huge pattern of bullets and you're a girl, not a ship.
If anything, look up "Bullet Hell" Touhou is like one of the most infamous examples of what the Genre is so you'd see what just by searching.

The harvest moon games now aren’t actually harvest moon games they just use the name while the actual series was re named to story of seasons. @@ffiiggyy And judging by Story of Season: Friends of Mineral Town on Switch, the "farmer Pete" character and his design is owned by Marvelous and is filed under Story of Seasons now, and not Harvest Moon. So if he appeared in Smash, as a fighter or Mii costume or whatever, he'd be labeled Story of Seasons for sure.
For Kirby I can think of tons of reoccurring characters that work work well but my top 3 are Dark Matter Swordsman, Daroach, and Bandana Waddle Dee.

On Sora: A lot of company Representatives that have worked with Disney say they're very selective with licenses, but will negotiate licensing with basically anything that just seems to be an attractive deal with the right company. I'm not a big Kingdom Hearts fan, but I definitely think fans may have a shot at seeing him after all. In Japan Disney also has their own branded switch special edition, so Nintendo and Disney have already worked on branding together.

I always imagined Dante coming into Smash with a moveset kind of similar to what they did with Byleth but if they want to go unique with these new characters then I personally think it would be cool to make him absolutely crazy and technical by having his special work like Shulk's monato arts where he can quickly toggle between his different stances and drastically change his fighting style on the fly. This would mix in aspects of Byleth, Shulk and possibly even Pokemon Trainer. I'd be a bitch to create/design/balance but it would be very unique and cool and would reward players for delving deep into the characters kit.

I think Digimon is likely, especially with Digimon Survive coming out this year. Sakurai could implement a gauge that fills up overtime (like Hero's but starting at 0) and the gauge can be used to Digivolve Agumon during his specials to get a stronger version of the attack,

I saw a lot of comments for Agumon and Greymon from Digimon and I thought about that as well Digimon Characters in Smash Bros Ultimate would be awesome

I honestly have a really hard time making a most wanted list for Smash now. I've gotten all of the characters I really wanted in the game. Another Xenoblade rep would be nice but i don't mind who gets in now.
Based on what I want, here is my list:
Crash Bandicoot (The hot air balloon circling N. Sanity Island as the stage)
Spyro the Dragon (Either Fireworks Factory, Toasty, or Glimmer as the stage)
Sora (Destiny Islands, Twilight Town, or Traverse Town as the stage)
Rayman (The first area from Rayman Origins as the stage)
(those are all I really want, so the others can be literally anyone XD)
However, I'm still sitting on that mindset where if I want it, it won't make the cut, so if I were to be more realistic with my expectations, my list would look more like this:
a Pokemon Sw/Sh rep (don't know about stage type XD)
a XB2 Rep (never played XenoBlade Chronicles)
and the rest are characters I either don't remember or never heard of. Probably another FE character from Tokyo Mirage Sessions.
For Spyro i'l love Winter Tundra as the stage. For Rayman I think glade of dreams. For Crash the time twister from warped.

Agumon is one of my most wanted characters as well as one of my predictions. I could see Agumon as a DLC character being used to promote Digimon Survive which is supposed to be released sometime in 2020. After all, one of the platforms for Digimon Survive will be the Nintendo Switch. If Hero can be used to promote Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition, then I could see a similar situation happening for Agumon.

Probably because of the bandwagon effect. Sakurai mentioned during the time of Brawl's release that he wanted Geno to be in Smash. In Sm4sh this continued by saying something along the lines that Mii Gunner was how he envisioned Geno and Geno got a Mii costume. Wanting Geno in Smash (for most people) is kinda like how people have already resign to the fact we are getting a gen 8 Pokemon rep, despite the fact we may not.

I would love Crono but it would be hard to make him different to the Dragon Quest Hero.
Seriously it's like people don't realize that Square has other IPs that they would prioritize.
I'm quite confident that Crash will be added. He is a big icon, popular in the West and in Japan, and also saw a big comeback.
For the rest my predictions are Travis Touchdown, Lloyd Irving, Reimu from Touhou, Ryu Hayabusa and a Nintendo rep (either a Xeno rep or a BotW2 rep).
Geno is a spirit so he be less likely I'd really like to see crash and spyro be the next 2 to become 2 of the 6 new fighters.

The second I saw Urshifu in that Pokemon Direct I thought it would be a likely Smash character
Even though dante, bayonetta, and 2B would have ocmbo based gimmicks, they would each focus on different aspect of it. Bayonette would be the geenral fast paced combo. Dante would be his stance changes and 2b would be her weapon switching.
Imagine if 2B before you begin the fights can chose between a light and a heavy weapon from the four weapon types of light swords, heavy swords, gauntlets, and Lances. Each of them would vary up her base combo a lot and you can double up on the weapons too like two heavy swords and two gauntlets etc. Her taunts can work like in Automata and give her a massive attack boost at the cost of defense. Her specials would focus on the pods with neutral B being just pellets. Up B can be the pod hover but it gives a big vertical boost instead. Her down B can be the missles and depending on the charge, it can create little mines that explodes afterwards. And side B can be the sword flurry pod attack which also has a charge feature. Her Final smash could be the mechs she and 9S uses to get around.
I agree with AShadowLink regarding the SMT rep. It would fit perfectly while being along Joker from Persona because each character is representing a part of MegaTen. I was kinda disappointed at the start because Joker didn't even reference Jack Frost but this would make sense if we got an SMT protagonist (and its inclusion would help to promote SMT V just as The Hero did with DQXI for switch)
Actually I like all of AShadowLink's picks but it's pretty obvious well get 2 or 3 Nintendo characters in this pass so there's that to consider.

5)Phoenix Wright: A prediction and deciphering based fighting style where each special move is powered up if you match an opponents specials!
4)Porky: A mecha style fighter with two forms (in the mech with super Armour until mech breaks) and then a separate style after it shuts down!
3)Andy: A summoner style with resource gathering and resources management (like hero’s MP) a unique strategy military style (Advance wars)
2)Elma: A maneuver based character that would require utilizing specials at specific times with unique cool down mechanics! (Xenoblade X)
1)Style savvy stylist: A fashion themed character that rewards players for hunting down specific targets in free for alls and finishing their looks!

Sorry but i can’t see 2B getting in at all. Like out of all the reps that are possible there’s not even talks or rumors of anything Nier coming to Switch. The one thing that has always happened with these characters is that they’ve been on a Nintendo platform in SOME shape or form. Even Joker was on a Persona spin off game on the 3DS. If Nier(og) or Automata come to Switch I’ll take this comment back and admit that she has a chance. But right now even Master Chief has rumors of Halo coming to Switch. I just don’t see it happening out of every other character that could come
I think we are really close to breaking that fan rule, honestly. I personally doubt they were going to deny Joker or Cloud if games like the GBA Kingdom Hearts and Persona Q2 didn't exist.
I don't think that matters considering Persona Q isnt seen as a big release and Atlus knows it wont garner big sales like a Persona 5 port would.
Which we still don't have a year later after Joker's reveal.
Rumors mean absolutely nothing and hold absolutely no weight when discussing a characters chances. And I highly doubt Sakurai is like "Cloud was in a Kingdom Hearts spin off forever ago, let's add him!"
This is shown even more by the fact that he was specifically shown with "Smash x Final Fantasy VII" and Joker with "Smash x Persona 5", both which have not been on any Nintendo console.
Where were the Terry Bogard rumors lmao I must have missed this.
Saying "I haven't heard rumors for 2B but I have for master chief therefore the latter is more likely" is ridiculous.
Also, Sakurai only said the character has to be from a video game. It helps if they're on a Nintendo Platform (that's a big reason bayo was in smash 4) but by his own admission it's not a necessity.
What I think is most possible (not in order):
1.botw2 rep (probably fighter 10 or 11)

@SourceGaming - What would you think of “Jade” from “Beyond Good & Evil.” This is iconic series that was on the GameCube. BG&E is created from the same guy as Rayman. It would be Ubisoft’s first playable rep. Who wouldn’t want Peyj and Double H as Spirits. She would be a close combat, light fighter that uses a “Dai-jao” combat staff, and the gyrodisk launcher for a projectile. Also fighting on the hull of the Beluga while you fly through space and different locations of the BG&E universe would be awesome. As for her final smash, she can use her “DomZ” power to suck the souls out of the other fighters and heal herself. This would be an awesome addition to smash, and it would be one of those “Out of Left Field” choices Nintendo loves to choose. Also they need to promote BG&E 2.
If we don't get Rayman, Jade is my second choice for a Ubisoft character, you pretty much summed up exactly why I'd love to see her in Smash. Besides, the franchise doesn't have to be popular as Sakurai has stated in the Terry presentation. :)
Honestly, if we got Jade for a Ubisoft rep, I'd be kind of upset. Well, probably more disappointed, but still. Granted, I'll admit bias, as I hated Beyond Good & Evil, but I feel there's better Ubisoft reps. Not just Rayman, but Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell, Ezio from Assassin's Creed, Aurora from Child of Light, The Prince from Prince of Persia, heck maybe a Might and Magic character like Sareth from Dark Messiah.

For a Namco character I'd say Nightmare. He's a sword character but is different due to being really slow and using some of those sweet sweet Namco fighting mechanics.
